The "dog is man's best friend" concept was almost unique to Europe and America. Dog was and still is eaten in many other parts of the world, including China, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and many parts of Africa.
Hell, dog meat was routinely eaten in South Korea of all places, up until a ban a few years ago.
Thankfully, dogs and cats as foodstuff is changing. The younger generations even in places like China who grew up with social media are very opposed to this practice.

Dog has been man's companion for at least 15 thousand years. Dogs been worshiped as gods in ancient Egypt. I don't think dogs as companions is a concept "unique to Europe and America". But eating a dog as a matter of cuisine is a singularly savage custom, and of course only savages partake in it.

Today, a lot of pet owners spend more on vet insurance and general upkeep of their pets than most parents did for their own human kids not many generations ago.
And remember, whereas in the west we raise cattle almost purely for consumption, in India a cow is sacred. So half the country is starving while big fat cows sashay around like they own the place. Very odd to see in person.

The Penn state troopers union, and that troopers family should sue Massachusetts for tens of millions. The NTSB put in tons of restrictions on commercial truck drivers. Have to take breaks every X hours. Cant drive more than 14 hours in a day, have to take X days off after X days or hours of driving. We have it on good authority from the Nuremberg trials that simply following orders is not an excuse for illegality.
