Independence Eve Cafe

TALLSHIPNORFALK.jpg
Tall ships at Norfalk, Virginia, to celebrate the 250th last weekend

Life with a prairie dog.

A dog was found dying on the side of the road with two broken legs (due to being hit by a car). A woman rescues her and names her Faith and Faith will walk again.

Wolf pup attempts his first little howl.

Feeding and petting a hyrax, which is not a Space Monster but some kind of weasel.

Baby goat rejected by mother and stray bulldog become littermates.

Baby owl is rescued after losing parents in hurricane.

Dog befriends squirrel.

Cute story about a couple whose dog died -- but then a neighbor's dog, who apparently wasn't well-loved, began digging under the fence to visit the other couple.

Woman gives the magpies in her backyard toys and now has a whole flock following her when she walks around the neighborhood.

When a wild elephant drops by for a visit.

Baby and crow are friends.

Also, thick layers of petrified piss and shit build up in their dens over the decades.

I am waiting to see what happens with Brazil, and Venezuela has enough pissed off earthquake victims to create a nationwide revolt because of the failures the "Bolivarian" state has in doing anything but stealing, so that needs watching too.
Mexico just had it's debt rating bottomed out and the Mexican central bank is looking to backstop their version of Treasury bonds by buying them off the secondary market if the rates take a dump, so that looks inflationary, and that is dicey in Mexican history too.

51 Earlier this week, I walked around the Great American State Fair on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Despite the heavy negative press coverage, I thought it was impressive and inspiring.

The event boldly portrays American patriotism and exceptionalism across our great nation to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday. It runs from June 25 through July 10, featuring more than 150 exhibits from all 56 U.S. states and territories, along with businesses, innovators, and civic organizations. There is a towering Ferris wheel, a stage with live music and performances, family-friendly attractions, military ensembles, flyovers, and daily cultural programming. An innovation center showcases booths from SpaceX and NASA.

A notable contrast: while the people of France and several other European countries are suffering from the summer heat because of their leaders’ environmental extremism, which hates air conditioners, all 150 exhibits at the Great American State Fair are air-conditioned.

61 Just watched a short clip of "celebrities" on "Finding your Roots." It is remarkable to me the number of "black" people who are terribly upset to find out many of their ancestors were white people.

It shouldn't be a surprise. Most American black folks are not all that black skinned. It is just genetics.

But somehow, not being "pure" seems to bother them.

I'm a mutt. I traced a lot of ancestry and honestly, there are great men, saints, and horse thieves. Doesn't change who I am. And a lot of those records are probably falsified because... folks sleep around.

His America 250 celebration and the Great American State Fair are central parts of this ambitious effort to reconnect Americans with the story of our nation’s greatness.
