AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

4/3 – Teresa in Fort Worth posted an update. Her chemo seems to be holding things steady for now. Unfortunately, as she is receiving a steroid, she has gained about 25 pounds. Her blood sugar has also jumped up about 40 points (which only happens when she is on steroids).
6/1 Update – Teresa had a CT scan and has seen the surgeon. Everything looks good/stable. There are no new tumors and the ones that are there have pretty much stayed the same or shrunk. No metastises seen. Additional good news is that she can stay on the current medication, and just alternate it with other meds. She continues to respond extremely well to the protocols. She sends her gratitude for each and every prayer.
6/19 – Teresa in Fort Worth sent an update. Her cancer marker numbers continue to go down; hopefully that means everything is working! In other news, she has started working on another stocking, this time for her grandson, who will be implanted soon via IVF. Prayers for a successful procedure and pregnancy would be greatly appreciated!

5/16 – Tonypete asked for prayers for Jane who is dying of breast cancer, and for Cheri who is in jail (again) for drug related crimes.
6/13 Update – Jane and her husband have sold their home and have moved back to Green Bay, to be with family when she dies.

5/20 – D gave an update on his wife Susan and her continued battle with cancer. Her cancer markers are still headed in the right direction. She is on a new antibiotic, and it is causing some side effects, but it is keeping her out of another surgery, so that is a win. Thanks again to everyone for their prayers. May 1 marked one year since they found out about the cancer, and Susan is doing so well.
6/24 Update – Everything is going well. The chemo seems to be working, but it’s very hard. The prayers help, so please keep praying for them.

5/23 – I used to have a Different Nic could use some prayers as he waits for the results of a biopsy of a mass on his prostate.
6/2 Update – I used to have a Different Nic sent in an update. He has been diagnosed with risk group 2 prostate cancer. It appears to be localized to the prostate but this will be verified via another scan. He has doctor appointments lined up for the next month or so before he starts treatment.
6/23 Update – The latest update is that he has stage 2, “unfavorable intermediate”, which he notes is an awful name, but what it means is, it is in the middle, but bad enough that they want to treat it. It’s more aggressive than previously thought. He is at the point where he has to decide on treatment options, which means choosing which set of pretty unfortunate side effects he prefers.

5/26 – Doof posted a request for prayers for his mom. She is back in the hospital. She is very weak from one or more infections, and is sleeping a lot. She isn’t really talking when she is alert for a few minutes.
6/14 Update – Doof’s mother passed away.

5/29 – Bulg requested prayers for his sister, her husband, their four children, and the rest of the family as his sister is dying. She is in palliative care in the hospital, with a lot of blood clots, and is not expected to last long.
6/5 Update – Bulg asks for continued prayers for his sister and the family. He visited, and her condition had improved a lot. She was conscious and lucid. Bulg and his brother had a nice visit with their sister, and also got to visit with her family (husband, kids, grandkids). Bulg is grateful for the reconciliation with his sister and prays that she may be with them for a long while.
6/14 Update – Bulg’s sister passed away on 6/14. They all could use prayers of comfort.

5/29 – huerfano requested prayers for her brother, R, whose appendix “got hot”. Luckily he was with his daughter, who got him to ER quickly, and surgery was scheduled for 5/29.
6/6 Update – R had surgery, but his appendix was already leaking, so the surgery was more complicated and required lavage of his internals. He has been back at his daughter’s house since 6/1, and is thinking he’s ready to go home. Unfortunately, that’s 500 miles.

5/30 – RandomDave posted that he would appreciate prayers as he searches for work. He has had some good job prospects/interviews over the past week.

6/2 – Ellipsis (… sent in an update. We had prayed for a friend of hers who was going through cancer treatment. It’s been a little over a year, and her port is out now and her hell is over. She is battered and bruised, but clear. Thank you to the Horde for prayers, and praise to Jesus.

6/4 – Teresa in Fort Worth’s niece (Amanda) received a heart transplant a few months ago. One of the complications of that was that her kidneys started failing, and she needed a kidney transplant. On 6/3, she received a new kidney and it appears to be working. Hallelujah! The family is so grateful for the gift from the donor’s family.

6/6 – Skip requested prayers for his boss and wife. Their oldest daughter passed away the day before her 30th birthday. They had also lost a son some years ago unexpectedly. They still have 2 daughters.

6/9 – “A” requested prayers for a long-time friend now suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, who just fell and broke his hip. He came out of the anesthetic really confused. His wife and family also need prayers of support and strength to help him.

6/13 – Dash my lace wings asked for prayers for a friend named Lisa, who was diagnosed with liver duct cancer. She has been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and is afraid she will never leave.
6/20 Update – Lisa has been allowed to go home for hospice care. Cancer has metastasized throughout her body; this looks like the end for her.

6/13 – Tonypete requested prayers for an acquaintance (B), who has destroyed every relationship she has ever been a part of and spreads hate and torment to everyone around her.

6/18 – buzzion asked for prayers for a friend named Christina, who has struggled with drug addiction and is in jail again. Buzzion prays that this really is rock bottom and a true wake-up call for her – even if it requires her to stay in jail.

6/20 – bluebell gave an update on grammie Winger. Grammie had some major surgery related to her cancer in March and is pretty much housebound. She said she isn’t keeping up on news since her diagnosis; she doesn’t have the energy. She said she thinks of her grey-box friends often with fondness. Please keep praying for her. Your prayers are a source of great comfort to her.

6/20 – Polliwog the ‘Ette said that prayers for Inspector would be much appreciated. Inspector is still in the hospital. They are working on getting his strength up so it’s safe for him to go home. He is more alert and focused than when he was admitted, and he has been able to eat multiple full meals, which is an improvement and will help him continue to improve.

6/21 – B posted a request for prayers. He said that, due to his own shortcomings, and a moment of madness 6 years ago, B has been estranged from his two sons (age 41 and 36). He has tried to reach out and apologize to them over the past 6 years, to no avail. B asked the Horde to pray for their hearts to open, to allow him to properly apologize, and try to be the father he should have been. The boys are losing their mother to early-onset Alzheimers, and B needs them to know that he’s a better person today than he was then, and he can be counted on.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Hello all and I offer my prayers for those afflicted by disease or conflict.

Today is the memorial service for DiL's paternal grandfather. While the gathering will be comprised of folks of whom I would say are "not my kettle of fish", I will be properly respectful and represent both myself and Missus KvC well and offer up prayers for the dearly departed.

12 Good morning, Hordelings. I spoke with grammie winger last night. At her request, I am letting you know that she is hospitalized again, with sepsis, and cannot eat or walk. She is being fed by tube. She doesn't know how long she will be there, and they are trying to figure out where she will go after this, rehab, hospice, etc. She is very tired and cannot speak for long. She requested that I give out her mailing address to anyone who asks for it, so please do ask me if you are interested in sending her a card or note.

I am sorry to bring you such sad news, and I am uncomfortable with the level of detail but she specifically requested that I tell you these details, so here I am. Please pray for her, that her suffering will be eased, and pray for her family who is suffering along with her.

I know at one point her son used to lurk around here, so little winger, if you are here, please know that we all love your mom so very much and we will keep praying for her and all of you.

You all can reach me at moroncookbook at gmail dot com, or on my personal email if you have that. I'm happy to say I've already fielded 10 requests since CBD put up the sidebar last night.

18 Teej, I'm on my laptop, so copy paste is easy for me today. Reposting, because it bears repeating.

53 - Regarding {{{grammie}}}

My prayer is for as little suffering as possible.
When she leaves this mortal world, it will be our loss.
However...
The apostle Paul writing to the church at Phillippi -

1:21 For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

See also in his second letter to the church at Corinth-

5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

As always, you should read the entire passage on both. Context is important.

19 Slipping out of Lurk Mode to share that Grammie Winger has been in my daily prayers for a long time now. Prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for her last night.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair or become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.

22 Prayers for all those suffering. I offer a prayer of thanks to God for my 38 year old daughter, who was released from a psych hospital this week after a particularly bad breakdown. (She has had mental health issues since the teen years). She has two children which she does not have custody of but which she still sees, and they are both wonderful. She has new medication and a new commitment to living in a way that will keep her from making a return trip.

The hardest part for me was telling her, when this round began, that no, you’re not allowed to come to my house because you want a place to “calm down”. My wife and I cannot and will not have a screaming mental patient in our house, even though we care for her. This forced her to seek more professional care, which this time appears to have helped quite a bit. (Hasn’t always been that way). So prayers of thanks to the Lord for this.

Tom Servo, I'm glad to hear your daughter has a new commitment to taking her health seriously. You and your wife did the right thing. It's so hard to watch our children suffer, but when they are adults they must make the hard decisions. And she has.

27 Prayers for I used to have a Different Nic to get enough information on the treatment options so that he can make the correct decision for himself and also that the chosen treatment option works well with minimal side effects.

In the fall of 2024 my prostate cancer also changed to unfavorable intermediate. I had appointments with a surgeon regarding a prostatectomy and with a radiation oncologist for radiation therapy combined with hormone therapy. I chose to have 28 radiation treatments along with 6 months of androgen deprivation therapy.

While it seemed very stressful at the time, the treatments were easily tolerable. I have minimal side effects and the cancer is gone.

33 Spent a sizeable part of yesterday day bash scripting and creating fzf launch/preview menus for various projects.

The neovim screenwriting config is coming along nicely.

I've been testing it out using the Blade Runner screen play.

Reading through the script, they cut the dance hall scene down to the bits in the film with Zhora.

It would have been interesting to see that on film.

Overall, the Bladerunner script is a good read and really expands on the world building.

Everybody in Hollywood should read this script.

41 I have a truly trivial FWP hardly worth mentioning… but here I go anyway: I have a Garmin GPS watch I use for running. Two runs in a row, this morning included, this watch is “cheating” me out of distance. I have a regular course I know is 4.2 miles long. Twice in a row I’ve run it and the watch registers 3.7 miles at the end. What??! Makes me look really slow. Wounds my pride. And furthermore, apparently I’m weak minded because as I run when the watch records my mile splits much slower than my normal this discourages me and I feel more tired than normal. Vicious circle… I’d planned to run 10K this morning but stopped at “3.7” due to this discouragement. Sigh

I've been on active surveillance since diagnosis (Gleason 6) in 2018. Too many biopsies to recall the total. A few MRIs in there too. Luckily, it hasn't progressed to unfavorable intermediate, but I anticipate that it will at some point.

I appreciate you posting that and I've copied and saved it to MSWord for future reference.

60 I happened to watch an episode of Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson of the Hoover Institution featuring a debate/discussion with Victor Davis Hanson, Niall Ferguson and Stephen Kotkin held last October talking about the Trump era. VDH was erudite as always and Ferguson was interesting. But the annoying one was this Kotkin fellow who I’d never heard before. Apparently an eminent historian. He actually argued that Trump is not a consequential president! This is a ridiculous position for a supposedly eminent historian… good grief. Ferguson didn’t agree with all things Trump but he had enough sense to know that PDJT has been tremendously consequential. It’s just amazing the number of truly smart people (I’m sure Kotkin is smart) who lose their minds when the topic is Trump. Trump so disorders their emotions they find themselves arguing that 2+2=5 and really believing it. Psychologists and historians will be studying TDS for centuries….

62 prayers to all

so sad to hear about Grammie. this is such a difficult thing. prayers and prayers

someone above mentioned trying not to do the prostatectomy even with a dire diagnosis. I think it's important to think HARD about the surgery. sometimes it's presented as "this will remove the cancer" but there are dangers they underplay.

first is lifestyle changes. I won't go into; as your doctor and surgeon. second is the propensity for the cancer to spread without an EXCELLENT (and possibly lucky) surgeon.

follow the advice of your medical team above all, but ask questions about what life will look like after surgery, and really think hard about that. and be sure you have chosen a top surgeon.

That my wages must be confiscated so that illegals can have free housing, free medical care, and free food while they sit idle and do no work.

That another portion of my wages must further be confiscated so that the powerful and connected in far off lands can live lives of luxury, while pretending to "help the poor."

And all of it, not only confiscated at the barrel of a gun, but they heap on me the dishonest moral blackmail of accusations "children will die" if I dare object to the theft of my time, my money, my wages.

The clinical definition of sepsis has changed considerably over the the last 20 years. It's not a set thing, but rather a constellation of factors.

69 Last fall, my sister who is 29 but not that old really… she got sepsis and almost died and it started with a urinary tract infection…. She’s otherwise healthy and I was shocked she came that close to death. A few months before that our neighbor died from sepsis, maybe close to 70 nor an age I consider extremely old. So yeah… anecdotally sepsis seems more common now; who knows why

They would do the same thing with Bush back in the day. It is that far too many intellectuals who were always in the top of their classes, cannot admit error and change with evidence. It is particularly a problem in academia because they have a whole line of publications, etc. from a viewpoint and few, if any, have egos that permit them to change their minds on critical assumptions.

One of those assumptions dating back to the FDR and Adlai Stevenson/JFK era, is that Democrats are the smart and 'good' people and doers, while GOP is slothful, stupid, and evil.

Some bacterial infections are getting a lot harder to treat because the bacteria are developing resistance to the drugs used to treat patients like MRSA. Staph has been around forever and normally acts in symbiosis with human skin but MRSA variants are immune to most penicillin and even the remaining ones used to treat it often require hospitalization and IVs.

The wavelength that kills the bacteria and viruses, also damages your eyes and skin. You can't have a friendly UV sterile room.

We had a UV sterile room when I was in grad school, it was made very clear that you always turn off the light before you enter.

It would help. But a lot of the infections inside hospitals are caused by staff ignoring guidelines designed to quell it by simple means of hygiene and cleaning. Busch was an unusual case where he had an infection and just refused to go to the doc. Same thing often happens with elderly patients--they are sick and delay going to the doc and sometimes it is too late.

If these people acknowledge that Trump is right and good it means everything they have ever believed is a lie/wrong and they just can't accept that so they continue the lie no matter how ludicrous. There is something broken in these people. It's easier to continue on their bad path than to take personal responsibility for their own lives and they are being enabled by a political class that promises them everything. Essentially, theynever want to grow up and leave home.

I think hospitals use UV-C and do it when cleaning rooms for new patients (at least some of them do). Also UV is used in the HVAC system along with HEPA filtration.

Posted by: whig at June 27, 2026 09:45 AM (E4rtv)

102 FWIW, I use UV-C lamp to sterilize dog beds and it creates ozone which also acts to reduce the odor causing bacteria from that. UV-C light on the HVAC system now as well.

Yes but I'm always hoping that people much much smarter than me find solutions that seem impossible. But like I said, hospitals need to use a UV system more than they do currently. Just only when the areas are unoccupied.

This is the main problem.

You can even see death from an infected tooth if patients wait too long for treatment.

It's called Ludwig's Angina. It progresses very fast .
It's rare that people die from it in the US, but in places like India, it is a major cause of death.

107 If your PHd isn't in the hard sciences, I'd argue that it's a marker that you're a Shithead: someone who thinks they're smarter than they really are.

It's a variant of the Dunning–Kruger effect where people with low ability in a specific area overrate their ability, while those with ability can underestimate themselves.

People with PhDs will often spends years on something so narrow as to be of no use to anyone, and then claim that they have great insight into everything. Especially happens with soft disciplines.
