I call it sampler plate rock. Same two or three songs from any band, over and over again. Part of my problem is that the most popular song by any band will likely be my least favorite from said band.

I have a DVD player on my computer, and my radio takes a USB stick, so I can copy all my CDs and play them, and download podcasts if I feel like it. That is about as low-tech as I can get it for you.

88 Saw Alison Kraus and Union Station last week. Most of the show was perfectly solid but the best part (IMO of course) was the "encore." Instead of spreading across the stage with each person standing at his own mic, they softened the lighting and all stood around a single mic which gave it a more traditional bluegrass feel.

I figured she would be just fine with Rush as Jeff Beck was one of the greatest guitars ever. All over the place, style wise. Could play anything. Also, a bit demanding of his band and she kept up with him. She'll love playing with Rush. Loving the YT clips so far.

YT has several videos of her music. It is exquisite: sometimes haunting, sometimes joyful and perfect for the acoustics of a cathedral. Por ejemplo, in Justified, a lot of American support actors sounded like a variation of Foghorn Leghorn, or Scarlett O'Hara. Whereas Damon Herriman (Dewey Crowe) sounded legit. I can't hear the cymbals. Why do they allow this. Half of a drummer's work is on the cymbals. They pay extra money for that special cymbal, that desired sound and the sound engineers wash it away. And no one complains. Do the really listen?

Yep yep -- taking a decade off did not lessen their chops at all, and Geddy's voice is actually a bit stronger now than it has been in, well, decades. Yes, he can no longer do the banshee wails (or even most of the angry cat howls), but there were far fewer warbles and dropped notes last night than before.

I will also join the multitudes in commenting about how much sheer joy they projected during the show, especially Geddy. Everyone was all smiles, and they took turns getting "The New Gal" to smile along as well.

Seriously, if you are a fan, do what you can to try and get a ticket for the show. Though I have a feeling that this tour may not be a one-off event, as Geddy seemed to intimate during his closing remarks.

However the Daily Mail reported earlier this month that the pop star and the NFL player will throw a wedding function for roughly 1,000 people at Madison Square Garden next Friday, July 3.

Whispers circulated this week that the couple are planning a smaller gathering for about 100 intimates at the arena on Thursday, July 2, according to the New York Times.

108 92 I recently learned about Hildegard von Bingen a 12th century German Benedictine Abbess. She not only wrote foundational religious and science texts, she composed music for the church. YT has several videos of her music. It is exquisite: sometimes haunting, sometimes joyful and perfect for the acoustics of a cathedral. If you enjoy music from the period it's worth your time to listen.

Hildegarde finally made sainthood. She also compiled an entire volume on the current natural science, and any number of awesome spiritual manuals. I found out about her in college, and while it is sometimes difficult to decipher exactly what she means, she is worth reading.

Also, Dead South. If you need someone to play the hell out of their instruments, those are the guys.
