Now, several subcontractors say the project has left them saddled with massive unpaid costs.
One plumbing contractor says he's nearly $4 million in the red: "That is a hole that no subcontractor, small business can survive."
A Fox News Digital investigation found multiple construction firms reporting losses ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to tens of millions, with many of the complaints coming from the very firms the Center claims it wanted to support.

Adamson Plumbing owner Mike Owen says his company is owed nearly $4M on the Chicago project

CHICAGO -- The Obama Presidential Center was billed as a lasting legacy to former President Barack Obama, and its construction was touted as an ambitious model built with aggressive goals for minority-owned and local businesses.
But now, some of the very subcontractors who helped build the 19.3-acre campus on Chicago's South Side say they are facing financial ruin as they race to recover millions of dollars they claim remain unpaid ahead of the center's grand opening Friday. Overall construction costs were reported to be $830 million in 2021, and have likely climbed past the $1 billion mark.
A Fox News Digital investigation identified multiple construction firms claiming losses ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to tens of millions. The allegations cut against one of the Center's defining goals: helping minority-owned businesses and local contractors grow through one of Chicago's highest-profile construction projects. Several of the complaints reviewed by Fox News Digital come from firms that were supposed to benefit from that mission.
Among them is Adamson Plumbing, whose owner Mike Owen says is nearly $4 million in the red after years of work on the project.
"That is a hole that no subcontractor, small business can survive," Owen said.

Subcontractor owners interviewed by Fox News Digital described what they characterized as a chaotic work environment marked by repeated design changes, rework, scheduling disruptions, extensive oversight and years-long compensation disputes that still remain unresolved.

A project overseen by communist Theater Kids was chaotic and subject to constantly-shifting plans? I don't believe it.

BTW, totally unrelated: LucasFilm fired more directors than actually oversaw completed projects and "announced" more than a dozen movies that never filmed.

Several also described what they viewed as a wall of silence surrounding the project, with some declining to speak publicly or requesting anonymity because of confidentiality agreements or fears of professional retaliation.

The allegations emerge days after a Fox News Digital investigation reported that the Obama Foundation's reserve fund -- originally promoted as a $470 million financial safeguard intended to help protect taxpayers if the project encountered financial trouble -- remains funded at roughly $1 million.

In Obama's case, its not so much disagreement over work (although I'd be pretty unhappy with how it turned out) but rather they blew the money on other things and have to do more fund raisers to replace it.

The internet seems to think that 100 change orders for a project of that size is a lot. Not in my experience. You could have 100 change orders even in much smaller developments. I would have thought that this Gay Lightbringer Monstrosity would have had 100s of CO.

But ... it all depends on what you consider a "change order." Any tiny change to anything is technically a CO. A massive construction project could have 100s if not 1000s of changes to minor bullshit like what color the toilet paper rollers should be.

But if the GLM had 100 change orders to major design specs, then that might be a red flag.

But my client though the contractor fucked him, so it truly wasn't about money. Sued and took the case to the ends of the earth. Easily spent $400k on lawyers.

We saw "They Will Kill You" streaming on HBOMax.

It's more less less a total "Ready or Not" ~~rip-off~~...er, homage. The twist is that the protagonist is, surprise! an angry black women who kills a bajillion EEEEEEeeeevil white people, who are devil worshipers (like RorN) to save her sister.

The funny thing is that I kinda enjoyed this movie. It's not great, but they have some interesting twists and wacky deaths that keep things entertaining, though you'll be at least two scenes ahead of the movie plot-wise because where else can it go.

Anyway, it worth seeing for "free" on streaming.

The writer? director? just wasn't good or clever enough to make this the comedy he wanted. He wants to make a sort of Lynchian/Tarantino mash-up but is lacking the skill. Or, he could've leaned more heavily into horror eco in the third act and that might've worked.

As it stands, "TWKY" is just okay, but watchable.

2. Not they are saying the screworm was allowed to escape by DOGE cuts. They have quotes from Dept. of Ag people, and all kinds of made up facts. Of course, it was in Central America for years and in Mexico in 2024, but they are trying to blame Trump

Right around when Obamacare happened I paid $500/mo for insurance for my family. This was in the individual market as I was self employed at the time. Today, a comparable policy with the same deductibles, Copays etc goes for $2k.

Good thing he made it “affordable” for everyone.

There really isn't a 'public' anymore but clusters of individuals grouping around whatever news sources they use. And public polling indicates that. There is little in Western culture anymore that unifies so it makes it a lot harder to actually manipulate like the media used to. And it pisses them off to the extent that they are embracing censorship (which is always counter productive in the long run) because their news monopoly is broken.

The only people still listening or reading most of the legacy media are old folks who are pretty much set in opinions. And the rest are either uniformed totally or clustered in their groups closest to impervious to info outside of them.

That is the result of divide and conquer tactics--eventually you run out of divisions, make up new ones, and each time you do that you make it harder and harder to unify when you have power.
