Federal Judge Upholds Conviction of Judge Who Illegally Aided Criminal Illegal Aliens to Escape ICE

This is a bad day for high-calorie Karens.

But that's just a day ending in a -day.

A federal judge on Tuesday upheld the conviction of a former Wisconsin judge who helped an undocumented man evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman declined to reconsider former Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan's conviction without rescheduling a sentencing date. Adelman previously postponed Dugan's sentencing on June 3.

The lawyers added that Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, the Mexican immigrant she led out a private courthouse door to evade ICE officers, was not facing a pending proceeding but a warrant for his arrest instead. Adelman, a Bill Clinton appointee and former Democratic state legislator, was unconvinced by this argument.
"At oral argument, defendant noted that ICE goes out every day to try to arrest people on the street," Adelman wrote in his ruling. He echoed the defense's argument, writing "Given the estimated 10 million undocumented persons in the United States, does that mean there are 10 million pending proceedings?"
The federal judge added that Dugan "insists that there needs to be some formality, i.e., a proceeding before an agency involving parties trying to come to a determination, an adjudication."

Dugan was found guilty of obstruction charges in December. She faces up to five years in prison for obstruction, the more serious of the charges, though first-time offenders rarely receive the harshest punishment.

Flores-Ruiz has since been deported. His appearance before Dugan and her conviction have come amid the Trump administration's massive crackdown on immigrants across the U.S.

I've worked with a lot of indians and sometimes they bring "candy", indian "candy" to work to share. A lot of it is made with beans and I've never tasted one that was good. There are probably good and bad ways to make it. There has to be a way because chocolate is a bean, as is vanilla so there has to be other good bean-candy varieties.

Add in that the H1B holder must be paid 4x local rate for US citizens for the position, and I'm in.

Drop the visa fee to $1 million, and require employers to pay $5 million/10 visa holders they hire, and I'm still OK when the pay scale minimum is added.

Japanese, Italian, Tex-Mex.... I think this is what the fancy restaurants call "fusion cuisine", right?

Pretty tasty, even if it is one of the most white trash concoctions ever.

I'll lkely see here again this coming August for the next reunion. I'll see if I can get it...and if I can, I'll post it to the weekend food thread here. I know she worked the bacon into the caramel somehow, so the savory offset the sweetness. It was an icing of sorts. The brownies were normal all except for the fact that she somehow worked a warm chocolate filling into each square. It was wonderful and paired with a good cup of coffee...heavenly.

That doesn't sound too bad.
It's just as a southerner I've never ever thought of beans as dessert. It seems like it would be very 'mushy' compared to a regular brownie.

My mom made 'blondies' which were wonderful.
I think the man difference was using brown sugar without chocolate in the recipe. They were good, though, she had to make several batches every Christmas to give to people who wanted them.

It'll be overturned on appeal.

Because the cartel judge is stupid--he argued that, because it was so high, it was in effect a tax--$100k is a tax.

Except. That means, a lower amount would not be a tax--$1k is not a tax.

Meaning, the cartel judge has made a policy decision--not a legal decision on what he thinks the fee should be.

And SCOTUS has been pretty clear these last few terms--judge are not to make policy decisions, they are to rule on the law:
Either Trump has the right to set the fee or he does not.
There is no "sliding scale" between legal fee and illegal tax.

I think that which can't go on forever won't. What's been happening for Europe for years is not sustainable, either economically or with the citizenry. There are cracks showing all over like Sweden and AfD and other indications people have had enough of the lies and degradation of their country for no gain at all.

This might not be the huge tipping point but sooner or later it will happen. Europe might never recover to what it was but this absolute lunacy will end.
