Musical Interlude

Song is I Like That by insert name here. Before You Exit Anime is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, one of the best anime romantic comedies of recent memory. At 12 episodes and no sign of a sequel it never reaches a conclusion but never outlives its welcome.

9 Anthropic was playing fast and loose. Amazon is a big investor 3 ways and, in my opinion, didn't want to be left holding the bag.

DavidSacks: A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused.

I got 25,000 words in before it became unwieldy; too many strange changes to physics. I tweak quantum flavourdynamics (actually a real thing if a rarely used term) to allow for certain advanced technologies, but it turns out that means uranium stops existing within the fictional universe. I could just run with it but I really like it when that every objection to the logic of a story already has an answer.

Grok is helping a lot there.

24 We've all heard about the massively expensive theatrical failures of recent years but the the billions thrown into completely forgettable streaming content is just as amazing.

This video has the rundown and discusses the underlying problem. Several of the movies mentioned were stunningly expensive but this was the first time I was hearing the title, like 'Fountain of Youth'.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6YvkbqAhAY

In a few years, we're going to start seeing comparable movies but made for mere millions because they have no stars (except aging ones who've sold the right to use their much younger self's likeness) and were generated entirely within a server farm under the supervision of few enough people to comfortably fit in a typical conference room.

26 Something like 'The Electric State' was intended to draw so much interest it would significantly spike subscriptions to Netflix and nearly pay for itself in the process. Instead, only a small fraction of the existing subscribers bothered to watch it.

There are things that, unless given specific parameters, grok will give you what the "scientific concensus" is.

33 From the ONT: I'd commented that we'd never seen Batman go undercover or spring a trap on his criminal quarry. SciVo, however, said:

"I thought there was an episode of Batman: The Animated Series where the villains have all gotten together, bragging about their plans to bring Batman down. Some are elaborate enough they might defeat themselves, others nefarious enough to possibly work. Some are just dumb, like a crocodile whose big plan is, 'I'd throw a rock at him!' Everyone just looks. 'It.. would be a very *big* rock.'

"Then at the end (spoiler), Batman throws off his crocodile man costume, knocks some heads together, and leaves knowing how to defeat all the worst plans against him."

SciVo, I'd forgotten about that excellent series, and have never seen that episode. Yes; that's exactly what I'd want to see!

36 I'm up, sipping coffee, with big black Stirling (who kicked me this morning, but only ten minutes before I planned to get up) sprawled on the floor nearby. Dunno where little Dagny is; I've checked the closets. Oh, well, she'll show up in a bit.

I need to go work out this morning and am dreading it. Last evening's rain left the air soggy and unbreathable -- and that was seven hours ago, *before* the nightly humidity rose to its usual dizzying and nauseating levels. I dare not look at the heat index.

I'll have to step out of the Book Thread for a little bit, while I video-tour a new house candidate. A 2BR/1ba bungalow, it has an enclosed front porch, a basement and garage, and looks (pre-inspection) to need very little work.

After I named him -- partly for a pipe tobacco I liked the name of, partly for Stirling Moss the race driver -- I read about the Stirling engine. He certainly seemed like a powerhouse as a kitten, zooming and leaping as if on kitty crack. And he has not slowed down too much as a four-year-old, either.
