"Protesters," Get This, Begin Punching People; Police Are Arresting the Thugs

A Texas jury on Tuesday found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco high school track meet last year, concluding a closely watched trial that drew national attention over questions of race, self-defense and school safety.
The Collin County jury deliberated for about three hours before returning its unanimous verdict. The same jury will now decide Anthony's sentence. Under Texas law, a murder conviction is punishable by five to 99 years in state prison.

The case stems from a confrontation at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco on April 2, 2025, where Anthony, then a student at Frisco Centennial High School, and Metcalf, a student-athlete at Frisco Memorial High School, clashed under a team tent where athletes had gathered during inclement weather. The altercation ended when Metcalf was stabbed in the chest. Medical examiner testimony at trial revealed that Metcalf had been stabbed through the heart, with a two-inch wound described as "gaping."
Prosecutors characterized the stabbing as a provoked, unjustified "sneak attack" inside the team tent, while the defense argued it was a split-second act of self-defense born of fear and chaos. Anthony did not testify in his own defense.

Anthony, now 19, was convicted in Collin County District Court in McKinney. The sentencing phase, to be decided by the same jury, was expected to begin promptly given the speed of deliberations.

I dont think he is going to get more than 30 for M1 myself, but who knows. I also dont see how the jury would find guilty of M1 and still think this was in any way self defense.

Dallas nbc tv is saying it's a minimum of 25 years with a maximum of 99 years.

There are about 100 local cops, sheriff deputies and state police all around the courthouse right now. There might be 25-30 protestors that I can see on the TV and they aren't doing anything right now.

He was indignant, angry, belligerent, and arrogant the entire way to the verdict. The shocking entitlement and blackness of this kid's heart suggests pure sociopath.

This boy is a product of his parents. They brought in a legit thug to be their spokesmodel, who fed them all a load of garbage. Karmelo bought into this, and now there are reports he wouldn’t listen to his attorneys - nor would his father. These stories don’t seem like much of a stretch. If you listen to some of the protestors in front of the court house over the last few days you would know the answer to that question. One guy was out there shouting the only good cracker is a dead one. A few others were hurling racial slurs as well but we will never see those on TV. It was ugly.

My wife was a head girls track coach for a HS team. I went to meets with her. Even most COACHES didn't go into the tent area too much. That is a private space for the athletes to relax and enjoy themselves.

They would also have a spot picked out in the shade in the stands. That area was where a lot of the athletes would have their bags and would be a little more open to visitors, but kids would hang out around the edges. Coaches would be there reminding kids where to be and monitoring the outcomes of events.

She was a good lithographer too, very sculpture oriented for a lithographer. She reminds me much of Rodin and Henry Moore in style if not in subject

I found that a person convicted of manslaughter would face exactly a range of 2 to 20 years in prison.

And, as you wrote, in Texas, if a jury finds a person guilty of 2nd-degree murder but determines the crime was committed under the immediate influence of "sudden passion," the charge is reduced to a 2nd-degree felony, carrying a punishment of 2 to 20 years.

A death and so many lives affected for the worse.

These terrible lessons need to be taken to the classrooms while the kids are still kids, imo, and as a parent. Don't coddle them or ignore them.

Note: The NFL requires all incoming recruits to complete the mandatory Rookie Transition Program (formerly the Rookie Symposium) as well as year-round orientation sessions to educate them on personal and professional responsibilities because most are not learning such responsibilities while growing up.
