Today is the 61st anniversary of the first American spacewalk, done by Ed White on Gemini 4. Here's a video of that: t.ly/v9XxN Note a glove floated out of the open hatch at the 5:43 mark. And further note I had to say first American and not just first. Damned Rooskies beat us on that as well. Although Alexei Leonov nearly killed himself doing it. His commie spacesuit ballooned too much and he couldn't fit back in the hatch. He had to drop the pressure to dangerously low levels, and became overheated and exhausted. He got back in, but just barely. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at June 03, 2026 07:42 PM (w6EFb) 21

The Reckless vs the evil empire of Pricks and Minidicks keeps getting more interesting.
A case that was once about 780 stolen sets of Star Wars Lego has now morphed into a First Amendment case because of a tyrant in a black robe. Two bizarre and insane paragraphs. The Provo UT judge ordered that all of Reckless Ben's videos be removed from the Internet and that he would be barred from making anymore. Then to put a cherry on this shit sandwich, this same judge then said bond is waived because there is no evidence that Reckless Ben could suffer monetary harm. This is what provoked Patrron's CEO to go online and tell Pricks and Minidicks to stuff their paperwork and to sue Patreon. June 22d is when Reckless Ben can finally have his day in court. He now has a Civil Rights attorney, high powered one it seems, on his side who is already trying to move this case to a Federal court because of the First Amendment implications. And now I have this image of Ammon McJerkoff as a Scoody Doo villain going, "I could've gotten away with it." Posted by: Anna Puma at June 03, 2026 08:12 PM (2GVsD) 95

The Rooskies learned we were planning a spacewalk with Gemini, as EVAs would be necessary for the moonshot. So, they decided to upstage and do it first, and to do that, that got reckless with modifications to the Voskhod spacecraft, and all of that conspired to nearly kill the crew, more than once. Soviet capsules were pressurized to 1 atm with a normal earth-air mix. And they could not be depressurized. So they had to rig a crude airlock contraption. When Leonov suit ballooned, he had to lower pressure greatly to squeeze back in, but he induced the bends, because of all the nitrogen. And then, when he barely made it back inside, the inner hatch wouldn't seal properly. They didn't carry any extra N with them, so the system started compensating with O2, and that was very bad for the system (this bit us in the ass with Apollo 1 later). They had to come back down quick. Then the retrorocket system failed, requiring manual firing, which put their landing zone way off course and they landed on a high peak in the Urals. Bitter cold, and it took a day for the rescue crew to get to them. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at June 03, 2026 08:18 PM (w6EFb) 106

The problem with the word pride in English is that it is doing double duty. The French have two different words for pride: orgueil, which is the bad sort of pride (Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall), and fierté, which is patriotic pride, pride in doing the right thing, and so forth.

That's why it hasn't been called Gay Pride for a very long time. Just generic pride. Which means they can reassign as needed and they are doing it. You are seeing it. Yes it's still deviancy for now. Posted by: ... at June 03, 2026 08:11 PM (vE0+H) What the less insane folks to the left of the "T" in LGBTQ are realizing is they're the ones being "erased." You can't be gay or lesbian anymore because sex is just some gauzy intangible construct, and you're a transphobe if you're a gay man who doesn't want to have sex with a "transman" or a lesbian who doesn't want to have sex with a "transwoman," especially one with their dicks still a-swingin'. Like all victim classes they got used and are now being marginalized within their own "movement." It's kind of fascinating from a sociopolitical perspective. Posted by: Crazy shit, man. The Basset became kind of aggressive following me to the door. I asked the old timer and he said Oh he's fine he wont bother you. On my very next trip that Hound jumped up and nipped me in the ass.
