19 From last thread:
>> I do like the proper transatlantic accent of the early to mid 20th century....

The Transatlantic or Mid-Atlantic accent was entirely made up, a "received accent", peaking in the early 20th Century. It was created by upper class Northeastern to sound all sophisticated. Walter Winchell famously spoke it.

It's how Cary Grant talked. Also Katherine Hepburn. And Thurston Howell.

Mr. Howell's version was more "Locust Valley Lockjaw", a particularly snotty variant of it. Frasier and Niles Crane also used it for pompous effect.

21 He's 1000% more masculine than James Talarico.

From DU:

"Did anyone else hear this response from Talarico to insults about his "masculinity"?

He is on a five-city tour of TX and talking to people as the matchup between him and Paxton begins. He addressed the masculinity thing by using his father as an example. He said, "A real man serves others."

Then he gave the example of his own father who used to mow the lawn every Saturday morning and then without telling anyone, would go next door and mow the neighbor's lawn. She was an elderly widow. He finished by saying, "That's what a man does. He serves others. And he does it without bragging or complaining.

Imagine that. I love that response."

I use WordWeb, mostly to check spelling, but also when my word-grabber is failing to pull a word I know I know. It has three neat features, even in the free version:

https://wordweb.info/free/

* As a light stand-alone app, you can use it from any program, without having to open a browser (or switch away from the tab you're on). Just highlight a word, and ctrl-alt-w or ctrl-right-click.

* In addition to the built-in offline dictionary/thesaurus, it has tabs for Wikipedia (which I never use) and Wiktionary (which I use all the time).

* Further, they recently added an actually useful "AI Suggestions" feature for fuzzy matches, like when XTC introduced the term 'wignat'. It gave the accurate, politically-incorrect meaning.

I only scream like a girl with snakes. And then it's a high pitched sqwee as I run the 100yrd dash faster than Flo Jo.

My husband may scream like a girl eventually as he's now dealing with my mother's trust. He was the trustee and then she verbally promoted my brother and I didn't care. And found a bunch of crap wrong with this we want to avoid someday. I'm glad it's getting done now before she's either out of it or in heaven.

We had a "meeting" which my mother said was not needed. Yes it was needed as my father has been dead 16yrs and everything went to her. She's alert and happy and did not want to deal with it. Someday she won't be alert as she is on the other side of 95yrs now.

As usual I'm just along for the ride. I was demoted from being her healthcare surrogate years ago. Which is fine since I'm over 1000 miles away and my brother will call me, etc.

We don't have a dysfunctional family in feuding, so there's that.

There is some procrastination to rules and regulations of my father's trust on my mother's part apparently now showing up.

Think Maureen "castrate all Zionists" Galindo was an outlier, an aberration? I think not. I think she is in the mainstream of current Leftist dialogue, and was a bit surprised when anyone took offense at her comments, which to her were middle-of-the-road within her cultural bubble.

We had lunch at Mo's in Newport, down on the wharf. Watched the cranky sea lions vying for the sunny spots. Watched the surf at Boiler Bay. Beautiful, sunny day.

154 >>>We drive a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Great gas mileage. Even with expensive Oregon prices, it was not terrible. Did not keep track, but I am thinking 150-ish. Tops.

Also, I would pay whatever I need to in order to avoid air travel.

>Ah. It costs me $60 to visit my mother round trip, but I drive a truck. Fewer trips. Mother's Day was the last, her birthday next.

155 So happy you and your bride got to stroll along the waterfront, smell the salty sea and hold each other close.

How lovely.

It reminded us of why we took so many trips to the coast with our sons when they were kids. Even when we could not exactly afford it.

Between the PNW and Yellowstone/Teton, we spoiled our kids.

156 150 >>>Last weekend we drove to the coast, Newport OR.
This weekend we are driving to Billings MT.
Nearly equal drive times, 9 hours. Each way.
A lot of driving.

Good show. Won't say jealous but it sounds like a tasty kolache. Safe travels.

157 Hold up, did someone mention Cary Grant? His chin ran cover for anything coming out of his mouth. Terrific actor, but troubled, I think.

158 Local Ocean was the place we tried a few years ago in Newport. Fantastic. Only around the area one day, so didn't try any other spots.

The trip to Billings is for the celebration of life of my Mom, who passed in October. Bittersweet, of course. But we will be together as a family again. My brothers and sisters are good people. We will likely share some beer and memories. Mom and Dad raised a good bunch of kids. Seven.

160 think what the Left is doing is combing through every old media source looking for anybody who ever expressed support or admiration for Israel, no matter how long ago, and is adding them to the Master List of Zionists, slated for cattle cars to detention centers and eventual castration when their hoped-for Great Reckoning happens.

Think Maureen "castrate all Zionists" Galindo was an outlier, an aberration? I think not. I think she is in the mainstream of current Leftist dialogue, and was a bit surprised when anyone took offense at her comments, which to her were middle-of-the-road within her cultural bubble.

I have seen for years that 'they' have claimed to be making 'lists' for the camps for such things as benign as supportive of certain countries or having a sign for the oppo party in your yard. The main crime - not wanting to get on the train or putting others on it gets you a ride.

Conversely, Santa should be keeping a naughty list of all those who expressed desires to put some on the train to camps.
