Pondering getting another GPS for truck. This Garmin with its fastest route only would increase my mileage by 1/4 to 1/3 every trip. I have 12 miles to go and it wants me to go 20 to supposedly save a couple minutes.

Posted by: Skip at May 28, 2026 04:59 AM (Ia/+0) Wikipedia says: 1983: Bazilian and Hyman were asked to write, arrange, and perform on the debut album of a relatively unknown singer named Cyndi Lauper, She's So Unusual, which was being produced by their former producer and friend, Rick Chertoff. Hyman co-wrote the song "Time After Time" (and also sang the lower harmony vocal in the choruses) ... 1993: their debut album for MCA Records, Out of Body ... 9 The Hooters - All You Zombies
Catchy! Lotta smokin' goin' on. Posted by: m at May 28, 2026 04:48 AM (6wpGE) It reminds me somehow of this surreal 1982 classic. I think elements of the tune (though this is a bit faster), some of the set design, and the general vibe: Golden Earring - Twilight Zone (Official Music Video) *NSFW* https://youtu.be/msg-inxE8NU *NSFW* Posted by: SciVo at May 28, 2026 05:16 AM (Sy6m/) 17

Good morning everyone. Driving to Virginia today, ugh. I’m very much looking forward to seeing family, dreading everything else. Have a pleasant day.

Greetings and good morning, everyone!
Fen, I read that article you posted yesterday from the Christian Post about the dreaded eeeeevil scourge of "Christian Nationalism." Personal opinion: The author couldn't find the point even if he had a Boy Scout showing him the way. He just knew it was bad because "reasons." Love hearing "All You Zombies" but I still think "Johnny B" is a better song. -:-) Posted by: NR Pax at May 28, 2026 05:44 AM (BpO1e) 21

Oh, I meant D.C., in reply to Rufus! A play on how it's sometimes called "Sodom on the Potomac." But I see it doesn't really narrow it down, these days, all things considered...

Anyway! Here I is, sipping coffee, with enough sleep for once despite the efforts of a certain big black cat to wake me early. It's 80 nasty degrees outside, and I have to work out in it. The rain they've been threatening us with all week has not materialized the last two days -- not that it cools things much. The humidity, already vicious, gets even worse during and right after a rain.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke Going to be honest: The article annoyed me a bit and not just because the author struggled to make a coherent argument. Agreed, and I'd forgotten about that one - thank you. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant Yeah...that song was part of the soundtrack during some bad things a few friends were going through. We got better though. -:-) Posted by: NR Pax at May 28, 2026 06:05 AM (BpO1e) 33
In case you hadn't heard: The seller accepted my offer for the house in Indiana. Now I have to arrange for the inspection and a slew of other things that I've never done before. Of course I'm nervous. I haven't moved in over twenty years, for one thing; never bought a house, for another; never lived in that area of the country (though my scouting last Sept. showed me that it, and the people, are nice).
Encouraging, though, is that my new town is at 63 F. right now (6 am their time), high expected of 85, low tonight of 57 (!). I can imagine in spring and fall cracking the windows, turning on the ceiling fan, turning off the A/C, and still being comfortable sleeping at night. Sounds like a dream. . . .
