The Morning Report — 5/ 25/26

HarryG26.jpg

Good morning kids.

Today is of course Memorial Day, but the news does not take time off as is amply demonstrated by the lead story.

Maryland man was shot and killed by U.S. Secret Service agents Saturday evening after allegedly opening fire near a White House security checkpoint, triggering a lockdown and a massive federal law enforcement response in the nation’s capital.

Multiple sources identified the suspect as Nasire Best, 21, of Maryland.

According to the United States Secret Service, the shooting unfolded around 6 p.m. near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW when the suspect allegedly removed a handgun from a bag and began firing toward officers stationed near the White House perimeter.

A senior administration official said Best fired approximately three shots before Secret Service agents returned fire and killed him. Authorities said the suspect never breached the White House grounds.

An adult bystander was struck during the exchange of gunfire, though the person’s condition was not immediately known.

Ho hun, ho hum, another potential if not probable assassination attempt on President Trump. What is this the fifth or sixth attempt already? Yes, horrendous as it is it's not necessarily the real story, which of course is the greatest existential threat to our nation that we have or will ever face, the societal/political elements within our society that seek absolute power and the complete upending of America as founded, its destruction and transmogrification into a totalitarian tyranny. The epicenter of that movement is the Democrat Party and all those who support it.

Hasan Kwame Jeffries, the younger brother of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, is a professor of history at Ohio State University. In a recent social media post, he invoked the violence of John Brown, suggesting ‘white supremacy’ should be ended “by any means necessary.” Jeffries cited John Brown, an American abolitionist known for advocating violence to end slavery. One quote from Brown that describes his philosophy states: “I am quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood. I had, as I now think vainly, flattered myself that without very much bloodshed it might be done.”
One person commented on the post, jokingly asking, “Are these ‘white supremacists’ in the room with you now?” Jeffries responded, “Nah. They’re in the White House.” The post further suggests that Jeffries was referring to President Trump and his administration in the original post.

In any case, and sincere apologies for that pornographic debasement as this is Memorial Day so let us remember all those who gave their llives in defense of this country and let us beg their forgiveness for allowing the cancer of the Hakeem Jeffries' in our midst to have gained positions of power and influence to the extent that the cause of freedom and the nation our loved ones gave their lives to defend and preserve is closer than ever to being lost.

I can only imagine my dear uncle, for whom I was named and who was cut to ribbons by a Jap machine gun on Saipan, looking down from Heaven and weeping at how low we have sunk.

Let us do what we can to ensure the sacrifices he and all who gave their lives were not in vain. God bless their memories.

Have a great day, one and all.

7 Spencer Pratt running for LA Mayor:

Spencer Pratt’s team is power-washing stencils onto city sidewalks, creating visible messages where the cleaned sections contrast sharply with the surrounding dirt and grime.

"Imagine if the streets were this clean"

The only way to fully erase them? Actually clean the streets.

A great reminder about infrastructure and basic maintenance in a city that is declining under long-time Democratic leadership.

Starting on refurbishing the spreadsheet of Delilah's show career. I thought it was complete, but there were two early shows in Florida that were missing (she walked in both of them).

Delilah didn't rack up the record that her illustrious grandmother Lacey did, but she missed the last five months of 2019 because of Her Majesty's knee surgery (I showed her a few times to no good effect), a good chunk of 2020 due to WuFlu leading to show cancellations, and almost all of 2020 because of maternal duties, important as they were.

Bittersweet memories. Luckily, her daughter Diana is at the same spot in the hot/crazy matrix as she was.

The Exxon convenience store I go to has what they say is ethnaol-free, amazingly, at .20 *less* than their $3.89 87 E10. I don't know if they are simply forgetting to jack up the price, or if the stuff in their tanks is old, or if it really has ethanol in it. I'm not sure I'm seeing *much* better mileage on it now, as compared to a year ago . . . but it's .20 less, so I buy it.

I need to try a full tank of this stuff, drive to near empty, and try a full tank of the $4.30 (*wince*), to compare.

77 Ages ago, my parents took us kids to Arlington on Memorial Day. We were in a throng of visitors at the Tomb of the Unknown for a changing of the guard. It was hard to see through the crowd, but I remember how quiet it was. And hot.

I think there are some old photos of that trip around here.

Living near the capitol city back in the 60's and 70's was a different world.

It has a small value in cold climates, in that it isolates the water and avoids your fuel lines freezing up. There used to be a product, Heet! I think, which you were supposed to add to your tank for the same purpose. Now the fuel does it.

But it's still a crazy idea. My Buick got 34 mpg on the open road with Buc-ees E0 in it last September. I saw more like 29-30 with Shell E10 during my Kansas trip.

There was a chain of fuel stations in KS that was offering their *premium* at .30 less than their regular. I used it and got awful mileage. I wrote to the KS Dept. of Agriculture, and they found that the stations were selling 20% ethanol in that fuel and not labeling it as such.

In this post I would like to remember my uncle Erwin Schilling. He married my dad’s oldest sister in 1948, after World War II.

He was born in 1918 and raised in Smithton, IL in St. Clair County, near Belleville. His father was a house painter and had a difficult time providing for his family due to alcoholism.

Erwin was working as a rural mail carrier when he decided to enlist in the Navy, reporting for duty on July 4, 1939 in St. Louis. Most of his pay went home to provide for his parents and siblings. He even bought them a small house to live in. Once at sea he made a little extra money as a steward for the officer’s mess, which also was sent home. He was that kind of son and brother.

The first destroyer he served on, patrolled the Gulf of Mexico and East Coast. Part of their mission was to act as the eyes and ears for the British Navy, who were at war with Germany and Japan at that time (1940). They were tracking German shipping in the Gulf and reporting back to the Brits. At that time Germany w

1) he doesn't say what he--or any of them--did to support Trump there

180 According to the Renewable Fuel Association, a pro-biofuels trade group, roughly one-third of the corn grown in the U.S. is destined for gas tanks. Last year alone, the group said, ethanol refiners purchased $23 billion in American corn. On top of this, nearly half the soybean oil produced in the U.S. gets converted into biodiesel. Combined, the ethanol and biodiesel industries had revenues of nearly $50 billion in 2024.

Burning corn in leased SUVs to drive children to soccer games that do not have scores so that brown and black children in the ROW starve is no way to run an energy economy.

If you look at any time series, when the democrats are in charge, the economy is worse, freedoms are restricted, and people are in worse shape. Every time. There was a long post on voter registration fraud that went through how the serial was impossible.
But that to discover them, you had to sort lots of data.

This is the real reason blue states are fighting so hard to conceal their voter rolls:
It's not purging the improper voters-- it's exposing how they are added and laundered in.
Recall in GA, citizens were removing voters and finding back on the roll days later.

211 97 As the largest Starship EVER, V3 is a MAJOR evolutionary upgrade from V2, focused on higher performance, reliability, and FULL reusability
===================
As huge as V3 is, with 100 ton capacity, it is still only half as big as the planned operational capacity of 200 tons. SpaceX will get there too, no doubt. The company is one of the most incredible stories of our modern life.

Posted by: Huck Follywood at May 25, 2026 07:42 AM (fVNxJ)

A major Starship V3 improvement over V2, based on this first V3 flight, is heat shield tile retention. Every V2 in-space video shows a blizzard of tiles coming off, from everywhere on the vehicle. SpaceX obviously employed a better tile attachment design on V3. I can see very very few missing tiles in the currently available entry videos. This is significant progress towards Starship quick-turnaround for another flight.

Instead of saying "hello", I greet people a lot by saying "It's a great day to be alive in the United States of America". That phrase tells people two things - first be grateful to be alive right now, today as there are no guarantees on waking up each day. Second, there are no guarantees on your life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Thank the founders and the constitution for that. I am not shy about educating those people who disagree or seem confused with my greeting. God bless the men and woman who paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend this country and it's values.

One study of 10,000 patients, all with different types of cancer, done by the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute, observed a significant reduction in cancer progression among the patients. Lung cancer progression was halved in patients who took GLP-1 drugs, while the progression of breast cancer decreased by 43 percent.

2. As a actual human, you will not be permitted to invest initially. Better to buy into one of the tech indices (particularly if they invest in space stuff) and then wait for the initial investors to do their rug pull prior to buying to hold.

This does not constitute actual investment advice as I was a software engineer and not a money guy.

You can be morally opposed to violence and still serve. You just have to believe that, as bad as violence is, there are things which are worse and, perhaps foolishly, that your government will only use violence to prevent those worse things.

He flew over the Franklin after it was bombed and instantly knew that his brother was dead. His brother was a radioman and the bomb hit right over that space on the ship.

I'm named after his brother. To be honest, it's not a great name and I took some teasing through the years over it, however-

I've always felt proud and honored to carry it.

I salute your fallen uncle, and your father.

A little-known design aspect of Essex-class fleet carriers was extensive un-armored compartments immediately below the unarmored flight deck (steel ribs and wood decking). These formed the overhead (ceiling) of the hangar deck. The hangar deck was the armored deck, protecting the propulsion spaces, magazines, and bunker oil and high-octane av gas tanks. Those under-flight deck compartments were a high-casualty zone. Bombs and kamizazes tore through the flight deck then through these spaces. Radio rooms, ship's offices, pilot ready rooms, and more. Explosions and fires on the hangar deck were deadly to anyone in those compartments.

Starship V2 tiles were mechanically attached not adhesive-attached. Each tile had a metal clip embedded in its underside, attaching to a stud welded to the vehicle's skin. I do not know how the V3 tiles are attached. Perhaps SpaceX is now using adhesive attachment.

Here's the thing for me.

Tesla was consistently constantly overvalued badly yet the stocks continued to rise almost unimpeded until fairly recently.

If I'd ignored my common sense when it first went on the market and invested modestly, I be a bajillionaire (or some variation on that) now.

I'll try (I think) a modest investment in the SpaceX IPO, if I can squeak in at the opening and the cost is low enough. However, I doubt that I as an average Joe Blow investor can do that.

So, I'll wait for a bit and see if it falls enough when people take early profit when it initially rises.

Not advice, but that's my plan.

251 Todays Post has a story about two gorgeous twin sisters who served as co-valedictorians of their Tampa high school graduating class, and each managed to do 500 hours of service time as well. Unbelievable accomplishments (and great genes!).

But the really impressive thing is they are both headed to the Honors Program at Florida next year, as Chem majors. My wife counsels high school seniors on college applications and she says Florida (and its Honors College) is approaching top tier status among graduating seniors, like Michigan, North Carolina, or Virginia.

Florida is on a huge roll, in everything. Suck it, New York.

At least the fourth, that we know of. After the next one, Trump will account for more than a third of Presidential assassination attempts.

I had a couple thoughts about this.

1.) In his first term, a lot of people argued that it wasn't really any different than the Bush derangement stuff back when I was a kid. I argued it was much worse - I think it's safe to say I was right, at this point.

2.) A lot of people now argue that a President Vance or Rubio or DeSantis would have an easier time of it, because they could government on a MAGA platform without the baggage of Being Trump. If you think that, allow me to point out the mild-mannered, gregarious young Christian man who took a .30-06 to the neck recently.

262 212 At 66, it pains me to think that there are so many of my fellow Americans who don't appreciate the sacrifices that it has taken to keep this great country upright since it's founding nearly 250 years ago.

He gave me a German officer's coat (a colonel in Artillery going by the color on the epaulets), a Nazi armband, miscellaneous 'Gau Tag' pins, etc, a NazionaleFrauenschaft pin, and two tiny half-frame b&w photos he'd taken with his personal camera (not the Army Graflex). Those pix were of skeletons falling out of the opened oven doors. One day - maybe a year or two later - I looked for 'em and they were gone. I think Mom thought they were too much for my tiny 8-year-old mind. I still have the memories, tho' … and I NEVER tolerate being told that the Holocaust didn't happen. (hand salute)
