38 Well, or son and our DiL closed on their first starter home yesterday.

In a world of flipped homes, it was nice that the previous owners left them a hand written letter on the kitchen counter talking about the life events that the home had been a part of, and a wish that they would continue to see new adventures with the home.

It affirmed the feeling that all of us had while looking at it that this was a home that had been loved, and that the family had simply outgrown it, and it was time for them to move to their next adventure.

Why? Why would you touch your screen with your greasy filthy hands when you have a keyboard and mouse, which are purpose built and superior and quicker for input?

Literally makes no sense.

In fact, I use the keyboard for input 99.9pct of the time since I have all manner of utility and software configured just for that purpose.

62 G'evening and g' morning to all the late toilers and early risers. 'Tis Friday, the consummation devoutly to be wished!

Last night I dreamed a variant on one of the classic dreams. I apparently was in some kind of advanced math class and had not attended half the sessions, and here it was the last class before the final. I joined a line of supplicants -- this for some reason was in a cafeteria that also resembled a train car --- to speak to the professor about getting an incomplete. To my surprise (not in the dream but on waking reflection), the teacher was -- Barky Obongo! I schmoozed with him about being brought up in a poor part of town, roaches everywhere, etc., and was explaining that my mother and I had been sick this semester, when Stirling the black cat woke me by jumping on my ribs.

Dreams, right? You know the closest Barky ever got to an advanced math class would have been "dating" one of the (probably male) grad students in math at Occidental.

78 SMS based 2FA has always been a flaming dumpster fire in terms of security because SMS is so insecure and is tied to the SIM in the phone, which can be

a) cloned
b) taken over by a bad actor who convinces "support" at your phone company he's you, and he needs a replacement sim.

Shared secret authenticators have been better unless if the shared secret gets compromised on either end. Passkeys have yet to be determined just how secure they truly are (I suspect a major back-doorable compromise is waiting in the wings.)

Me, I make sure the authenticator is on a separate device than the device on which the authentication request is coming in, but I'm a paranoid old whitebeard that spent 30 years in IT and I know it's all a house of cards just waiting for the first breeze to blow it all over.

I can't do anything about the server side though, so if I hear of a compromise, passwords get changed AND authenticator secret keys get changed.

House. Of. Cards. *grumble*
