Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Tuesday Overnight Open Thread - May 19, 2026 [Doof]![]() From Pure Nature Oh no - PETA is upset PETA Raises Concerns About Lopez's Preakness Ride; Laurel Stewards Reviewing Footage The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has raised concerns about the winning Preakness ride by Paco Lopez on Napoleon Solo, suggesting that Lopez raised his whip above his helmet on three different occasions before striking his horse, in violation of HISA regulations. HISA announced Monday night that they were investigating the concerns. “The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) is aware of the concerns raised regarding Paco Lopez's ride in the referenced race at Laurel Park,” the organization wrote in an email. “In accordance with the standard regulatory process, the Stewards at Laurel will review the race footage and all relevant facts to determine whether any action is warranted under HISA's riding crop rules. We will defer to the Stewards' independent review and adjudication process and will not comment further while that review is ongoing.”Look, I'm not saying I don't care about the horsey. But I am saying PETA is asshoe. ----- Speaking of asshoe - the NAACP tries to stay relevant NAACP calls for boycott of Southern college sports programs over voting rights The NAACP and Congressional Black Caucus are calling on Black athletes and fans to boycott the athletic programs of public universities in states that are taking steps that the nation’s oldest civil rights group says are restricting Black voting rights. Launched on Tuesday, the NAACP’s “Out of Bounds” campaign urges current and prospective Black athletes, their families, alumni and fans to “withhold athletic and financial support” from major public universities in states that “have moved to limit, weaken or erase Black voting representation.” If Black athletes participate in the boycott, it could deplete rosters for powerhouse football and basketball programs across the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference. The NAACP’s campaign calls out Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and South Carolina as states to boycott, arguing that the athletic programs of those states’ major universities are especially reliant on Black athletic talent and should protect Black political interests.Sorry, NAACP - your race card is denied. ----- Spelling matters!

I will help build a left-wing, populist alternative that is completely free of Israel. If I'm backing someone, including a presidential candidate, that means I think they are actual Americans, and not servants of Israel. Fight them on the left, fight them on the right, fight on the hills and on the beaches. But fight to help free your country. The politicians and the national media are on their side. (Cont MIL story from above)
I stopped being offended about MIL as the years went on and her neurosis about a spotless house, which I never had. She'd kick all 5 kids out and lock the door to clean and had white carpet when my husband was young. After FIL died (whom I liked and would tell her to shut it) she was visiting in FL. Boys in college or old enough not to do stupid stuff. I was slugging a gin and tonic and watching her swim laps as I cooked and proud of our lovely and clean home. And how I'd managed not to flip her out that visit. She came in and asked if I had any steel wool (no), or Ajax (no), and something else. Nope! Called her son and requested this without asking why. She wanted to clean his grill AND scrub the BOTTOMS of the PVC pool furniture from scrapes of the pool deck. She saw this horror from the pool and looking for anything to clean. I thought this was hilarious but did not laugh in front of her. Have at it! Clean everything! Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at May 19, 2026 11:01 PM (WONhk) 181

The OSS contracted a shrink to put together a psychological profile of Herr Schicklegruber, it was actually fairly accurate and predicted he would probably kill hisself.
The whole thing had a lot of moving parts. Allen Dulles was stationed in Bern, and talking with high level party members who knew the war was lost by early ‘44. The “Unconditional Surrender” was a bit controversial at the time, for one thing it makes people fight to the last. Uncle Joe Stalin didn’t want any negotiated surrender with the West, and the Allies were prepared to let him get away with about anything, for cooperation in the Pacific war. Being a college administrator is a pretty tough gig. The Chancellor and Provost are always breathing down your neck to get things done. Tenured faculty just ignore you. Students (and their parents) are always complaining about something or other. And you never have the resources or support to carry out your mission. The best you can do is coast until retirement.
Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel My experience over the years with academic deans and assistant deans, provosts, etc. were not very positive from an administrative standpoint. Too worried about either a) building a resume to bounce somewhere else, b) always worried about raising funds that never somehow trickled down to the academic departments, and c) currying favor with some chosen faculty members. None of them were concerned much at my school with educating students, just in avoiding student complaints and reputation loss on their watch. A true STEM college might be different but ours was a large institution by the time I left. As in tens of thousands of students which in turn created a bureaucratic nightmare. Wasn't that way when I started. Posted by: whig at May 19, 2026 11:15 PM (E4rtv) Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at May 19, 2026 11:15 PM (iERP6) 206

Right now, I see a divergence in yutes--those that are college track are probably distinct from those working or seeking jobs that do not require a college degree. I think due to the disappearance of illegals in a lot of places, jobs are opening up in construction, restaurants, etc., probably now truck driving, and so on.
Those college bound or in college are scared to death of outsourcing and H1Bs as well as AI taking or preventing them from getting good jobs in the future. And if they are male, they have been shit on in their education throughout the years. I don't think they see Trump as helping them much as it is taking time to kill DEI, decrease H1Bs, spin up new industries, and the question whether AI is going to kill the white collar middle class jobs is up for grabs. That was the default. The bomb obviated that plan, but it was Plan A.
——— Operation Olympic. Invasion of the home islands, scheduled for November 1st. A million men overall. Planning takes months, they had to continue with all the logistics and everything that entails, and not place hopes in a secret weapon that hadn’t been proved out yet. My uncle was in the ETO and said the boys were not happy with the idea of being redeployed to the Pacific. They believed they had done their part, and it was time to go home. There was even some talk about going Awol. But a million troops is a lot of guys, they gotta come from somewhere. Posted by: Common Tater at May 19, 2026 11:43 PM (EACZC) 268

45 Evening, Horde...How goes it?
Well, it's official. My old boss--who wanted to fire me because I forgot to format a PowerPoint slide--is out of her job and is relegated to a faculty position within her old department. In academia, that's the equivalent of being exiled to Siberia. Meanwhile, my current boss is taking over her job in a couple of weeks. Karmic justice? Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at May 19, 2026 10:13 PM (gnNyN) Well...it's a better outcome than my last 'bad' boss. He dropped dead at 47 y.o. a few weeks ago. In a 45 year career he was among the top 3 worst jerk bosses I ever had and that includes the guy that was dragged out kicking and screaming by security and the nasty (unmarried, childless) broad who called my wife up when we had small children and made demeaning remarks about her to her. I plan to light a candle and pray for the repose of his soul and move on. Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK) at May 19, 2026 11:44 PM (QGaXH) 270

North Carolina is an odd state and even former popular Dem governors have gotten defeated by the right candidate and that was running against Jesse Helms. Dunno if Whatley is that right candidate or not. Cooper has some exploitable flaws like his horrible response to the Hurricane under his watch. And the unpopularity of the Democrat resist agenda. We will see if Whatley can exploit those. Posted by: whig at May 19, 2026 11:44 PM (E4rtv) 271

@GovChristie · 6h President Trump continues to put his insatiable hunger for revenge ahead of the Republican Party's success. If his endorsement of Ken Paxton leads to his nomination, tens of millions of dollars will be diverted from competitive races in Ohio, Maine, North Carolina and Alaska to Posted by: whig at May 19, 2026 11:28 PM (E4rtv) What a disingenuous doofus. I'm sure he knows that tens of millions of Republican superpac dollars were inappropriately spent to defeat a Republican, that is, on an intraparty spat. If they had not done that, then they would have the money to cover the difference in GE needs. But he isn't mentioning that part, and I'm sure he knows better. It is indisputable, from what I've read, that Massie made a major effort (quietly) to get crossover votes. Perhaps his campaign made its effort to do that prior to the 28 day window.
I once heard Massie express his confidence that he'd gain a lot from crossover voters. One more reason I hated his guts. Posted by: mnw at May 19, 2026 11:47 PM (RCjYY) 273

Christie thinks Maine is going to be a competitive race? The actual Nazi who enjoys watching a video of an American soldier being shot is going to get a lot of votes? If so, fuck Maine.

My honest estimation is that not using A-bombs on Japan would have lead to the total destruction of Japan. If we would have stayed our hand and proceeded with Operation Olympic and Operation Coronet, we would have incurred a million casualties, but at the cost of the lives of twenty million Japanese men, women, and children. Remember, the Japanese brass wanted to give children sharpened bamboo poles to hold off invading forces. Japan as a nation would not have recovered from a loss of that magnitude. It would have become something else, something no longer Japanese. Just my opinion.
