Top Story

  • If you're looking for an inexpensive CPU to soothe the bite of memory and storage prices, should you choose AMD's 7600X3D, or Intel's new 250K? (Tom's Hardware)

Both have six full-speed cores and the AMD chip has an extra 64MB of cache, making it 10% faster for games.

However, the Intel chip is 28% faster for single-threaded productivity tasks, which don't often take great advantage of the larger cache.

And for multi-threaded tasks the Intel chip is 114% faster.

On the fourth hand, AMD's socket AM5 platform currently supports Zen 4 and 5, and will see Zen 6 and probably Zen 7 in the future, so you have a plenty of upgrade options if you start with the 7600X3D. Intel's Socket 1851 ends with the 250K and 270K, there's a new socket and chipset out later this year.

Well, it's been there since 2022, but the version I had saved was older than that. (The song itself is from their 1996 trip-hop debut album Becoming X.) The previous best version on YT was from some third-party uploader, and it had visual artifacting that I don't see in this one:

Yes, the LA-Sen Republican primary went to a runoff, but Cassidy didn't make it. He's out for sure, and now it's between what sound like two solid MAGA candidates, either of whom would win in the general. The future is never certain, but it's as close as can be to guaranteed that they will have a good Senator now.

40 "Republican" Senator Bill Cassidy, who voted to impeach Trump in 2021, not only lost to the Trump supported candidate, he also came in dead last in the primary. In his concession speech he noted, "You don't pout, you don't whine. You don't claim the election was stolen… You don't manufacture some excuse,...you thank the voters for the privilege of representing the state or the country for as long as you've had that privilege. And that's what I'm doing right now."

Nah bro, you're bitching that you got your ass handed to you because you voted to ruin the reputation of an innocent man during that phony 2021 impeachment.

Trump was more to the point about what he and Louisiana voters think about the newly named FAFO Cassidy. ""a disloyal disaster...a sleazebag, a terrible guy, who is BAD FOR LOUISIANA...it’s nice to see that his political career is OVER!"

It is always lovely to see Trump being generous to his political opponents and by generous I mean he's really sticking it to FAFO Cassidy.

It's been starting to dawn on me that Trump is effectively an Alinskyite Liberal. He wields "Rules for Radicals" better than Obama ever did or could.

But he does so as a Radical against both the entrenched illiberalism that has defined the Democrat party for at least a century, and against the Republican party itself whose only principle became to conserve conservatism conservatively so that conservatives can make a comfy living conserving barbarity.

46 A fine Sunday's evening to the weekend toilers, and a Sunday morning to the early risers! I woke originally about 3:30 -- I'm not sure, but I think Stirling had jumped across me -- but went back to sleep for more than an hour. Winning!

Dreamed something about a couple of big rough dogs trying to get in at a window of the room where I was. The window, the slide-up type, had a catch at the bottom which should have kept it secure . . . but it was on the *outside* of the inner frame. I couldn't manage to force the moving part of the window down far enough to engage the catch. Fortunately the dogs lost interest in nosing the window open.

Whassup?

I think he learned a while ago so this might be right for him.

Hard to imagine what "older slang" might mean. I learned from Soviet textbooks and any slang I recall was political in nature.

108 The best part about Cassidy losing - and losing badly! - is that, combined with the losses in the Indiana primaries, it means that all of the NeverTrump “conservatives” are finished. Respect in DC is never given until someone shows that their influence can bounce his enemies out of their comfortable seats, and Trump is finally there.

Now his remaining enemies inside the party are realizing they’ve either got to embrace him or retire. McConnell, Tillis, Cassidy, and hopefully Cornyn are already out of the next Senate session; how many of their friends want to join them?

I’d love to say enough to pass the SAVE act, but those 4 are still in office for the rest of this year, and they’ll continue to block it just out of spite.

Posted by: Smell the Glove at May 17, 2026

The Letlow ads vs. the Fleming ones have been entertaining and confusing at the same time. Letlow says Fleming was never Deputy Chief of Staff to Trump; Fleming says Letlow as a Representative voted with Pelosi and Biden most of the time. Letlow has Trump's endorsement, though I don't know how recent it was. Fleming sounds conservative, though.

Way before my time, but Anne is really cute in this movie.

I can't blame Jack Kelly and Leslie Nielsen for hitting on her so hard in it.

Jack Kelly pays for it when he gets killed by the electric monster.

114 A telling note about political reporting these days - I cannot find a single mainstream report or story suggesting Cassidy was in trouble in Louisiana - and yet he just didn’t lose, he got wiped out.

Just like you won’t find any stories suggesting that Cornyn is about to get his ass handed to him by Paxton.

117 In Forbidden Planet, Anne is just sexy enough to titillate our fathers (and us boys), but also girl-next-door enough for our mothers to approve of her. A fine line to tiptoe along, but Anne could always manage it.

She guested in two early Man From U.N.C.L.E. episodes as the same villainess character -- separate episodes that nevertheless constituted a two-parter. Good stuff. Anne always gave you the impression that her character was *thinking* as, or before, she spoke.

121 I am worried about Mr. Wolfus. A dream about a Wolf at the door is quite common, but his dream about multiple rough dogs trying to enter a window is quite unusual. Perhaps an allegory for where he lives, in general.

I prescribe a move to Terre Haute, of all places.

That’s what I said; McConnell chose to go voluntarily rather than be tossed out. I’ve been keeping a list in my head of so-called Republican Senators who will be gone soon, and they’re on it.

I’m sorry that Tooberville is leaving, he’s been one of the good guys; but he’d rather be Governor (understandable, it’s a better job) and I’m sure his replacement will be as good as he was.
