He closes the club to shoot a very low shot. Unfortunately, he hits his wife in the head, killing her instantly. Years later, same course, the man is out with friends. One of the buddies slices to almost to the same spot as before. They walk over to look at it. The buddy says he thinks he can shoot low through the building if the door is held open. The man who tried the first shot tells him to NOT try it. "A few years ago, I tried that shot and had to take an eight!" (H/T - LRob in OK) ----- A man received the following text from his neighbor: “I am so sorry, Bob. I’m riddled with guilt and I have to confess. I have been tapping your wife for many weeks now. I’m not getting any at home, but that’s no excuse. I hope you will accept my sincerest apology and my promise that it won’t happen again.” The heartbroken man, enraged, went into his bedroom, grabbed his wife, and threw her out the back door. Then he locked the door. A few moments later, a second text came in: “Damn autocorrect. I meant WiFi, not wife.” ![]() Wisconsin Brewing Company will brew the final batch of Schlitz beer, ending the legacy of the 177-year-old beer that made Milwaukee famous. Another version of the golf joke:
After striking his wife in the head with his shot, the EMT's arrive to take her body away, telling the man that the coroner will be calling the next day. The next day the phone rings and the coroner confirms that the wife died from a blow from the golf ball to the temple. But in the course of the autopsy, the coroner found another golf ball lodged 6 inches up into the wife's rectum. He inquires if the golfer knows anything about this. "oh yea", replies the golfer "that was my mulligan." Posted by: proudvastrightwingguy at May 16, 2026 10:10 PM (MNCvZ) 28
Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new riding mower. I got mine back from being repaired again after I had to have it repaired and now it won't start. Fuel filer, air filter and spark plug replaced. Putting new gas in it tomorrow and if that doesn't do it, that's it. Schultz used to be the only beer on tap at the Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago. Schlitz and Schlitz Dark. I remember one night I was there and it was like an SNL skit. A tourist kept asking for different kinds of beer and Sam Sianis kept repeating We have Schlitz and Schlitz Dark. Becks? Same response. Stella? Same response. All the way until the tourist bus had to go. For many years now theyve had a self-branded beer on tap along with a few other brands that does not include Schlitz. That was something I noticed about bars and pubs “over there”. They had branded pubs. That is technically illegal in the U.S.A., a legacy of Prohibition or post Prohibition. In Germany for example they might only sell certain products from a certain brewery, and probably subsidized to a certain extent. Budweiser doesn’t sponsor bars, and exclude competition.

Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at May 16, 2026 10:45 PM (HdYcL) My ignorant opinion is that there's something in the carb. The gas in my area has plenty of ethanol, which was part of the problem when my mower did the same thing (but not the surging sound). I solved the issue by putting premium fuel in the mower and adding Sea Foam to the gas (after taking out the carb and cleaning it). That has kept the carb clean enough to give sufficient fuel to the mower. AOP will likely give the correct answer soon enough. If it helps, I'm running a 31-year-old John Deere. We can assume it's getting air, if you took the filter off to add starting fluid. Looks like fuel is not getting past the carb. You can probably get a carb kit, or even an entire new carb from Amazon, cheap. If it's an old, tired engine, your valve clearances may have eroded away to nothing. Depends, carburetor or fuel injection? Carburetor you may be able to just crank it until it starts unless the gas has gone bad. I did that with a '65 Mustang that had been sitting for 5 years. (attempting to do this somewhat chronologically): St. Mary's, Krakow, when Bishop Wojtyla was still Bishop Wojtyla, St. Peter's, Notre Dame, Westminster, Canterbury, National Cathedral, DC St. Mary's, San Francisco (great modern example), Trinity, NYC (my kids sang there), St. Patrick's, NYC, Neue Synagoge, Berlin, Kaiser Wilhelm, Berlin (tried to sing in German), Schlosskirche (Luther's church) and Stadtkirche, Wittenberg (the organist was practicing Bach fugues--perfect!) Santa Maria, Madrid, Catedral de Córdoba; Domkirke, Oslo (tried to sing in Norwegian), Stave church, Oslo; Holmenkollen Chapel, Oslo; Shinto and Buddist shrines, Nikko; Meiji Jingu, Tokyo, Shitaya Mishima (the shrine with cats), More shrines and temples in Tokyo and Kyoto Cologne Cathedral (no singing, listened to a girls' choir), Dohány Street Synagogue, Budapest, St. Vitus, Prague; Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois (I sang there--during a radio broadcast no less--apologies to anyone listening) probably more, and still lots to go Posted by: Otto Zilch at May 16, 2026 11:09 PM (Ws2ua) 202

My sister asked me to wash some sheets and a blanket for her in my washing machine. Machine stopped working with a full tub. I had to fish the blanket out, with the water so filthy even a Texan wouldn't drink it out of a hoof print. I then had to siphon the water out with a kinked hose, repeatedly going elbows deep in that nasty water.
Finally got it drained, and took it out to the driveway on a dolly to check out the pump, cussing the entire way since it got hung up on every door. Got the washer apart, and pulled the pump, and it was fine, and the shaft it is on was spinning freely. It will pump water in, but it makes a humming noise when it is supposed to be agitating or spinning, so I suspect a bad clutch, or a jammed main shaft. Either way this is a job for the pros. It is tarped off in the driveway still, since I do not want to bring it back in the house until I am sure it will run. Posted by: Kindltot at May 16, 2026 11:13 PM (rbvCR) 208
Back when I was in grad school, I interviewed the head yeast guy from Schmidt's of Philadelphia. He told me how Schlitz got into the trouble that eventually put them out of business.
It had to do with a continuous fermentation system. It worked satisfactorily in pilot tests, so they built a new brewery near Syracuse around the technology. It failed at scale, and Schlitz tried selling the beer instead of dumping it. You can guess the rest. Posted by: Otto Zilch at May 16, 2026 11:13 PM (Ws2ua) 209

I've had two days of no cholera so I thought I'd check the ONT.
I came out of lock down and my husband said he had forgotten what I looked like. Well, I look thinnner and for days did not care what my hair was doing and slept a lot. I kept him away for his own good and he would leave food/liquids at the bedroom doors. Just to top off the week, the kitchen drain pipe burst and the corner of the basement family room is being dried out with parts of sheet rock cut off. I am so tired it is the least of my problems, not having a sink or dishwasher to use. On the bright side of pure hell on earth I've lost weight. On the other side I don't know what or when to eat that might set me off again. I won't survive long on 2gm of protein/day. Tomorrow I might try to eat normally as I am not going to Mass and find out otherwise. Good you all say. Soon she will be a mere husk of a supermodel who can't type here but can wear anything she wants. In one week I will be on a plane and so I hope I will be normal again by then and not in a designer diaper. I am unclear what day it is and was surprised it is the 16th. Posted by: Bulg at May 16, 2026 11:40 PM (77rzZ) Think of it this way... When Casey struck out...and there was no joy in Mudville. Imagine the inner satisfaction the pitcher had for those three pitches! He threw a whole game and it came down to those three pitches. Each one excellent, done right, and the satisfying smack as the ball buried itself in the catchers glove. So it is with golf. 80...90...100 swings at the ball, and every so often, one of them is just perfect. Strength, agility, physics all meld together. There’s a pretty decent documentary on YouTube about this big snowstorm that hit Wyoming and Nebraska in the 1950s, I think it was maybe 8 or 10 feet, but the drifting in some places was 20 or 30 feet in places.
Paralyzed the region totally, nobody went anywhere, took weeks to finally get the roads open and supplies through. They talked to this rancher, he decided it was the perfect time to oil the windmill, the top of it was now at ground level. A lot of rural areas on older farmhouses, sometimes you’ll see an ordinary door on the second floor, pretty sure that’s why. When I was a kid my parents had friends that had a multi-generation home on a lake in the Adirondacks. Absolutely gorgeous place and the only way to get to it was by boat. No roads, no utilities, no phones. Everything ran off a huge generator and cooking was done on an old timey wood stove/oven. It was a kids paradise. At the head of the lake there was a general store, a tiny restaurant, a tennis court and a kids playhouse. They used to take us hiking and camping. Throw the battery away. Well … get yer 18 bucks on a new one.
Get a long siphon hose and pull a sample. Old stale gasoline will fuck up your engine but good. It will burn, and run, but it will turn to a kind of glue after shutdown and coat intake valves and piston rings. Check the sample out, it will really to start to stink and smell like paint or varnish. Modern tanks are sealed to the atmosphere and lasts a lot longer, but it depends on temperature, blend type, whether there’s a bunch of shit in the tank already. I've been estranged from older brother for 3 years... we crossed paths at a grocery store yesterday, as I was on the way to lunch with hubby.
I was just going to walk on by, but he called out to me. Ok. Brief chat. I didn't know he was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and he didn't know hubby was now in nursing home. But I had to go, the snack I'd just bought was something to share with hubby, so I asked bro if I could call him later. He said I could stop by, he'd be home all day. (He lives not far from me.) ............. Posted by: JQ at May 17, 2026 01:35 AM (rdVOm) 361

Long story short, I stopped by and we had a couple beverages, spent about 5 hours. We both said things we needed to say. I don't believe we'll ever "be friends" again, or socialize regularly, but whatever. We got all caught-up on family sh!t. Meh. At least we were able to not shout and fight, like before. Having two grands 4 years apart is trying. Oldest doesn't realize I am an older brother too. Times three actually. I can see the wheels turning in his head when his younger brother gets new stuff. We are fair. They get equal value when we buy them stuff. I get mad when, amazingly enough, younger bro's new toy gets broken on the same schedual I did it to my younger brothers some 45 years ago.
This is seen now as "always being mad". Today was honestly the first real family thing since Covid, since my dad passed alone, in a fucking VA hospital, with no visitors some 6 years ago. When he left us the family fractured. Today was to be an end to that and the oldest grand didn't want go. I was let down. I got mad. He told Gaga he thinks I don't like him. I'm sitting out here in the shop now feeling like an ass. I've looked forward to today for 4 weeks. I want awesome things for those kids. And here I am. Today was supposed to be awesome. It was. Except I think me lost a mini me. I'm dying that I'm such an ass. I don't know what to do. The core of this is the way he treats his brother. My "always mad" is me defending a 5 year old against a 9 year old scheemer. Reminds me of an old one-frame comic, where a customer is at the hardware counter with some monstrous, ridiculous mess of pipes, elbows & valves-- telling the clerk: "I need one of these"
Posted by: JQ at May 17, 2026 12:48 AM (rdVOm) That reminds me of Paul Gilbert, a hard rock guitarist (co-founder of Mr. Big), explaining to Josh Scott (founder of JHS Pedals) about his homemade pedal board. He made it himself so that he could give it a serial number, and then when he traveled internationally for gigs and had to provide a manifest, he could just list the board instead of each individual effects pedal (and power supply and whatnot). He turned a dozen parts (or more) into "one of these." Posted by: SciVo at May 17, 2026 02:01 AM (Sy6m/) 372

Get a jar-opener or grip-assist thingy for those pesky twist-top jars. These have been very helpful to me! (My grip is worn out from years of assembly-line work-- beat the ever-lovin' hell out of my hands for years)
Posted by: JQ at May 17, 2026 01:04 AM (rdVOm) I have never had particularly good grip strength, and guys are quick to rib each other, so I wish I had learned the two biggest tricks earlier: use a spoon with a thin, flat handle (holding it by the spoon end) to pry at the lid and break the seal, and grip the *lid* with your dominant hand. Fish and Game was concerned by the number of crows being killed on the highway while eating roadkill, so they used AI to examine thousands of hours of traffic camera footage.
They discovered that almost all of the birds were being killed by trucks rather than cars. Upon further investigation, it was learned that while crows are able to warn each other by yelling "Cah! Posted by: Berserker Sweet, Bers! Hope it was GOOD stuff, because we know that $$$ =/= quality every time.... Posted by: JQ at May 17, 2026 03:32 AM (rdVOm) Well it developed a rocker box leak. The gaskets have been improved probably 5 times since the bike was new, and it had older style gaskets. They worked, but they would get brittle, so I did the latest gaskets which are really good. I know someone was in the engine for performance work, and i was a bit worried about the quality of the work. Well, whoever did the work seemed to know what they were doing, they did thing I usually do, so it wasn't a hack. I found roller rocker arms, $900 worth, and there was nice valve springs with titanium spring retainers, S&S pushrods (gooood stuff), 10:1 compression weisco pistons, mildly ported heads, and some other shit. Gotta be an easy 3-4K in parts, and it was done good, and it was done only 3000 miles ago. It was done at 8000 miles, which was a crime in some ways to even touch a motor with such low miles, but I'll take it. It runs great. Posted by: Dark Lixtiquatal *raises paw* I can drive over state line and buy up to 1 oz, any time I like. (Just don't get caught with it comin' home!) Since retiring, and no longer subject to random testing, would be no big deal. But-- no desire for it. This amazes me, because for almost 30 years, I'd joke (but was serious at the time) with cow-orkers that retirement would mean: "bong hit and a line" for starters! Meh. I can have it anytime. I just... don't. Posted by: JQ at May 17, 2026 04:05 AM (rdVOm) 439
I was never into lines. Well, I did snort no-doz for the hell of it as a freshman. Crazy times.

Posted by: rickb223 When hubby first got sick 5 years ago, he lost his appetite. He was rapidly losing weight, hair falling out, weak & pale with liver disease. He was dying of malnutrition. Gummies FTW! Revived his appetite, and he slowly gained back 50lbs over 1.5 years. It was great for a couple of years, thought hubby would beat the disease, he was doing so well. Alas... But I'm so grateful that we've gotten the extra time and I'm convinced that it's all because his niece & nephew brought that "contraband" to him. Posted by: JQ at May 17, 2026 04:28 AM (rdVOm) 455

Nurse,
I have given serious thought to the greeting of, "How are you doing?" I usually reply, "I am warm, dry, and haven't missed any meals. Life is good!" And, depending on who asks I will add, "...and no one is shooting at me, but all of that can change in fifteen minutes." Posted by: waepnedmann at May 17, 2026 06:48 AM (Y1Jh7) 457
