One day American schools will once again teach the evils of communism, and we will be much better off as a country. Maybe I am naive, but I am genuinely puzzled by people who are true believers. As a political philosophy, it is so transparently false that it is difficult to comprehend the suspension of logic and the discarding of knowledge of the human condition that is necessary to believe in it. The bosses are a different issue. They want power, and are willing to do anything to get it and exercise it. THAT I understand, because it is sadly part of the human condition. German Tourist Killed by Cobra Bite at Egypt Hotel Snake Show According to PEOPLE, the 57-year-old man, from the Unterallgäu region of Germany, was traveling with two family members when the incident occurred. The resort had staged a snake show for guests featuring two cobras, during which the snake charmer moved through the audience encouraging guests to handle the snakes and drape them around their necks. During the show, the cobra found its way into the man’s clothing and struck him in the leg. The venom took effect quickly — he needed emergency resuscitation at the scene before being rushed to a hospital, where doctors were unable to save him. He has not been publicly identified. This is me being naive again. Are there really people who are so stupid and oblivious that they think having a cobra slither around your neck as part of the night's entertainment is a good idea? ![]()
Bob Dylan is widely described as Rock's greatest poet. Bullshit. In the real world, Paul Simon should be considered modern music's best bard, simply because he is slightly less pompous. Add in a tremendous number of fine songs with fine, poetic lyrics, and little Bobby is merely a pretender to the throne. And his enthusiastic participation in politics, while probably good for his career, is grating. Plus, "Hurricane" is a terrible song, and Ruben Carter was a thug, and my guess is that he did the crime. Mrs. Robinson The Boxer Scarborough Fair/Canticle And yes...FIGHT ME! Yesterday's airshow crash in Idaho: All four Navy crew members are reported in "stable" condition, with "non-profit threatening" injuries. They must have had one Hell of a ride when they ejected.
The Air Force Base is in a rather isolated area, and there aren't a lot of roads in the vicinity. The aircraft wreckage managed to fall directly on top of one of the few paved roads in the area. The wiper speed was somehow triggered to the moving speed of the car. So if you set the intermittent speed to perfection at a stop light, it would speed up to match the speed of the car so you didn't have to manually compensate and fiddle with the switch. It worked great. I thought that was a pretty cool thing for 1988. That car had a bunch of little shit like that. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at May 18, 2026 10:55 PM (snZF9) 136

Berserker, did you catch the Jersey song above? Looking for your viewpoint here!
Posted by: LRob in OK at May 18, 2026 10:56 PM (Jr+re) I guess it depends on where you are in jersey. North east is different from north west and is different from central, and is different from south. Kinda like a mini united states. Certain areas have an influx of people from Staten island and brooklyn, and from central jersey you could be as little as 10 minutes from Staten island, and since the bars were open later over there it was a big thing to head to staten island after the bar closed here. You have a lot of cross pollination in that area. Also a lot of staten islanders ended up in Marlboro. When I was doing kitchens in that area in the 80s it was amazing how many were from staten island. Some of the car shows I go to now have groups of dudes that slowly moved here from there. I know of at least 6 dudes in the last few years who moved here. You would definitely hear gabagool in these areas. lol Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at May 18, 2026 11:25 PM (snZF9) 203

The true magic of her voice was in the lower registers, what she called her basement voice. She said the money's in the basement. I remember reading something a good while back about that. She couldn't really belt it out in her lower registers, so they had to use a close mike, which can be tricky. Her higher registers were good too, but the magic was in the basement. She would contrast them sometimes, and that could really show off the basement magic. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at May 18, 2026 11:32 PM (w6EFb) 218

It's necessary for the revolution to eat its own. Communists never intend to liberate anyone. Just to take over power structures for themselves and use them toward a different end.
Once the revolutionaries seize power, a cadre will necessarily rise to the top. Once it does, they *must* murder all their erstwhile comrades. Those people have proven two things: they are natural dissenters, and they know how to fight against an entrenched power structure. They must go. The people who replace them will be unblooded, and terrified from day one. So the tidal wave of blood can recede - but it will continually wash back in from time to time, to keep the youngsters from getting fresh with anyone. Posted by: Helena Handbasket at May 18, 2026 10:25 PM (Ra+Eb) Good call, Helena. Washers have very sensitive air pressure switch, attached to a hose that runs to the bottom of the outer drum. As water rises in the drum, trapped air in the tube is compressed, and trips the switch to shut off the fill solenoids. That's how the fill level is set. Dylan was involved politically early on. He sang a tune or two at the Lincoln Memorial during the ‘63 march. Also at the McGee farm along with other folkies and lefties.
Now there is a theory, not that I hold to this, that somehow some sort of deal was struck. Bob agreed to tone down his political activism n exchange for not getting drafted. He was the prime age for this. The “proof” of this, adherents claim, is that Bob explained all this, albeit obliquely. Remember the famous Folkie civil rights protest gathering down south, on the McGee farm? Well - I ain’t gonna work on Magee’s Farm no more. They hand you a nickle, they hand you a dime, and then they ask you if you’re having a good time… He did pretty much stay mum after that, to the chagrin of everyone who claimed he was “the voice of a generation” and the rest of it. What is wrong with you?! He has always famously done his best to avoid getting pigeonholed, or let others try to define him or control him. Can’t argue with that. Favorite male rock voices of my youth in no order. I'm very fond of males I have to write without a list as "spam":
Ronnie Van Zant, anytime, all the time. LOVE;Lou Gramm...love;Steve Walsh...Kansas always at our keggers.Eric Clapton in every band;Steve Winwood...Higher Love always to dance Steve Perry (fight me);Bobby Kimball...Toto Eric Bloom...Blue Oyster Cult;Gary Moore...Still Got the Blues;Phil Collins;Gerry Rafferty Dan Fogelberg (oh, man, too soon)Kenny Loggins Brad Paisley Marty Balin: Miracles...whoa..and the saxophone Marc Cohn: Walking in Memphis Women singers: Anne Wilson;Linda Ronstadt;Karen Carpenter Alison Krauss with Union Station remains my all time favorite and we saw them last summer. Her voice is amazing, effortless, angelic. Give her a listen if you've never heard her. Same voice for over 25yrs.LOVE I did go through a brief Adele phase with 21 and like some of her songs like Set Fire to the Rain, which I sing to. I love Gary Larson as his two huge first volumes kept me sane in October til election day 2016.I'd read them at night. I still laugh loudly at some of them and he reminds me of my late brother. I used to get thick letters when we were in college from bro with cartoons in the margins. I still have a hilarious one I kept. I miss him. He would have loved mocking Biden. A natural Moron of elite status. Had not seen the cartoon above of the unfortunate Brit bug-eyed soldier. heh. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at May 19, 2026 12:25 AM (WONhk) 279

Posted by: Rev. Wishbone at May 19, 2026 12:26 AM (D1E+2) ************ I do as well. Also dislike a lot of heavy metal or whatever is going on now (sorry, disco). My musician husband (hobby but natural guitarist and pianist and very good) gets irritated by some of the stuff I like. He's introduced me to a lot of blues stuff and really knows rock music from our time (Civil War era or the mid '70's). I'll ask him about a song we hear and he knows it within seconds. I forgot The Guess Who. He and I agree on them and most including a great band I also forgot: Bad Company. I hate The Who with a passion. Don't know why but he knows, oh, he knows and doesn't play this in the car. He claims Winwood went through a pop type phase with Higher Love and I don't care and play it super loud sometimes anyway. I should have tested this song when I was sick last week to see if I'd rise out of my death bed to dance to it. Otherwise he likes Winwood. We don't argue much about anything, but he does have his comments if I am listening to something he thinks is "bubble gum." He also knows I ignore him so it works out for knowing each other almost 49yrs and still being best friends. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at May 19, 2026 12:39 AM (WONhk) 287

152 Karen Carpenter is my patron saint of the 70s. What a gorgeous voice that woman had. She was the vocal version of Sydney Sweeney.
Posted by: Bulg at May 18, 2026 10:55 PM (77rzZ) Yep, but she certainly wasn't the boob version. Weirdest thing about her is that she was generally considered to be an excellent drummer. I think Dylan lost his taste for leftism (to the extent he ever had one beyond the default settings of musicians of the time) after his relationship with Red Diaper Baby Suze Rotolo came to a monumentally bad end.
My theory is that he figure out they were trying to get him to write commie propaganda with vagina as an inducement. And say what else you might want to say about Dylan (and yeah, Hurricane sucked ass... that whole period sucked ass), he's made Oppositional Defiant Disorder into an art form more successfully than anyone I can think of, with the possible exception of John "Johnny Rotten" Lydon. Lydon is still pissing off the orthodox to this day, most recently by coming out as a Trump guy. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at May 19, 2026 01:23 AM (IG3/x) 305
