THE MORNING RANT: School Board and Down Ballot Races Are the Most Important Races You Can Vote in this Cycle

Big Red Ballot Box.JPG

It’s election season, and the most important political races in the country aren’t the ones we’re discussing at national political sites such as Ace of Spades. No, the most important races are the down-ballot state and local races. These elections suffer from terribly low voter interest, yet they impact how your community is governed and what is being taught in your schools.

Those down-ballot races also give ambitious politicians the first step up their political career ladder. In deep red states, this is where RINOs get their first victories, and soon they have incumbency and name recognition propelling them upward. Puzzled conservatives eventually scratch their heads and ask how did a Democrat-aligned “Republican” like John Cornyn or Bill Cassidy ever win statewide office in a red state? The answer is that they started way down the ballot and worked their way up over the years. The best time to defeat RINOs is before they start their political climb, but that means voting for actual conservatives in local elections.

School board elections, which are often “non-partisan” are also critical. If you don’t like your child being taught that the U.S. is evil and that children can change their genders, then it’s imperative to vote in school board races. Low turnout is the left’s friend.

For example, a conservative backlash in recent years to woke public schools propelled conservatives to a school board majority in the Grapevine-Colleyville School District in suburban Dallas. But in last week’s school board election, there was decreased turnout. Conservative incumbents were defeated by candidates committed to restoring the left-wing agenda in local schools.

“Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board sees major shift as incumbents lose seats” [NBC DFW – 5/04/2026]

Two Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board members backed by conservative PAC Patriot Mobile were among three incumbents voted out Saturday in a sweeping change for a district already facing major decisions. The results mean the far-right conservative group no longer has a majority on the GCISD Board of Trustees.

Barely 11,000 votes were cast out of 90,000 registered voters, representing a 12% turnout. The conservatives lost by a 52/48 margin, each losing by less than 500 votes. If the 79,000 non-voters have any complaints about the left’s woke agenda, they forsook the most important place to stop it – their local schools.

Sometimes a little research is necessary to vet the candidates, but a few minutes researching a race is time better spent on politics than watching cable news. There’s also a pretty easy shortcut to determine who are the actual conservatives in down ballot races - watch the yard sign people. The neighbor who proudly puts out Trump signs, or who currently has a Paxton sign in his yard, can probably be trusted to also have yard signs of the real conservatives in local races. (I’m aware that this is more of a challenge in deep blue areas, since putting out a Republican yard sign can be an invitation to vandalism.)

Other Stuff I’m Writing About

My latest piece at the The American Spectator has been published. “Price Gouging, Now Personalized Thanks to Surveillance Pricing and Collusion” discusses how corporations damage consumer faith in free markets when corporate executives green light unethical behavior such as price fixing among competitors, and with surveillance pricing (in which consumers are charged based on their internet browsing history.)

As reported by CNBC based on documents released by the California Attorney General, Amazon would send links to its vendors showing competitors (such as Wal Mart and Home depot) undercutting Amazon’s pricing. If the vendor did not pressure the competitor to raise the price being charged to consumers, Amazon would throttle visibility on its web site for the vendor’s products.

This piece is not behind a paywall. I’d be honored if you’d give it a read.

-----------

Truth. Our heavily conservative small rural Northern AZ city (of 40,000+) has had its Mayor and City Council taken over last year 6-1 by carpetbagging Califzuelan NIMBY No-Growth Commies with the help of millions of dollars of outside money (mostly out-of-state and Maricopa County Lefty billionaires and political PACs).

Our county is the most conservative in AZ, voting around 70% Republican with over 80% turnout in most state-wide elections ... but hardly any run for office and election turnout for off-year city elections is underwhelming. Ugh ...

We had a bunch of signs stolen in my neighborhood that opposed the running of power lines to fuel a data center in VA (I'm in MD). The thieves were caught red-handed. The justification was that they were from a real estate company and the signs were driving down property values.

Even though that problem was resolved, I'd still rather not have signs out.

They tripped over federal Constitution for years with their race based districts.

I don't think the impact of that decision has really hit home for most people yet. This isn't a one time thing. This is going to make the climb for Democrats taking the House much steeper for years. And if they keep going hard left they will just make their chances harder.

The Virginia Supremes typically release their decisions on Thursdays but one Justice recently lost a parent so they delayed it a day - I bet it was written yesterday though, which means it was likely leaked to the Governor's team.

79 Can a District Court still overrule the State Supreme Court?
Posted by: Boss Moss at May 08, 2026 11:20 AM (g6DiO)
_________

Federal district courts cannot overrule a state supreme court on issues relating to interpreting state law or the state constitution. The state supreme court is the final word on interpretations of state law. As this redistricting was found unlawful under the state constitution, that is the end of the matter.

There's a wrinkle in that state courts can't interpret state law in a way that conflicts with federal law. For example, a state court can't rule that it's totally OK under state law to discriminate based on race. That violates federal protections against discrimination.

But I don't see anything like that here. I think the case is over, and we won big.

102 Speaking of movies, I watched the Anaconda remake last night. It was ... very meh. How do you screw up an Anaconda film? Well, they did.

The remake is a mish-mash of tones and genres and none work well. It's comedy that isn't funny, a monster horror movie that's not horrible or scary, and a middle-aged buddy flick that doesn't work. Add in some sus cringe scenes and you have an unappealing movie.

Plus, the giant snake looks like shit, and seems to change size and appearance throughout the movie. I was thinking that there were actually two snakes, and that would be revealed at the end. Nah -- just shitty effects.

The most shocking thing about the movie was how terrible all the actors look. Jack Black is a fat slob -- he's gotta be 100 pounds heavier than his previous chubby self. Paul Rudd has got some weird botox going on. And the usually sexy Thandie Newton is frumpy, dowdy, and almost unrecognizable. What idiot did her hair and makeup like that??

It did lead the GOP to going towards Trump, though, when we were pretty much no more than "Anything anti-Obama is good."

We just got lucky that Trump, the loud-mouthed real-estate mogul and reality star from NYC, was actually interested in the welfare of our country and the Democrats and GOPe worked together to promote him in the primary because they thought he'd be easy to beat with Hillary.

I just finished reading Box Office Poison: Hollywood's Story in a Century of Flops. It starts with DW Griffith's Intolerance and then goes through Queen Kelly, Freaks and on through Dune, Catwoman, A Sound Of Thunder and Cats.

139 "I’m aware that this is more of a challenge in deep blue areas, since putting out a Republican yard sign can be an invitation to vandalism"

Vandalism may the least of their worries. In a lot of professions and industries, being outed as a non-moonbat means you're fired pretty quickly.

Things in blue areas, and blue-run companies, and in blue-run institutions are much much worse than those outside understand.

In some cities they'll put people on overpasses waving American flags and trump signs. There is someone off to the side with a camera recording who honks and waves; they have someone with license plate database access help dox the drivers and then try to get their employers firing them. No doubt some of this in some way gets paid for with tax dollars.

I think Sound of Thunder is underrated. It was cheapy made, which hurts an effects-heavy sci-fi movie, but it was well put together, had some really good moments/scenes, and was at least as good as some of the total garbage the movie critics fawn over. Peter Hyams is one of the most underrated directors out there.

201 I had no idea she existed until the No. 7 ads on TV, because when I think of beautiful skin, I think of Brits.......But in catching her on the game show, found her pleasant to look at.

Yeah, then she opened her stupid twat mouth and ruined everything.

I guess I first saw her in... 40 year old Virgin? She was the slutty woman. She was hot.

203 In news that matters, the oldest's middle school team went undefeated with a 10-0 win last night to complete their season.

Oldest got to start catcher and played the entire game. And his pop to pop times and accuracy kept them from attempting stolen bases too casually, while he went two for three including a 2RBI single, and numerous stolen bases.

Our pitcher pitched the entire game (he's a beast who's even got a decent knuckleball) and got a HR single in the first inning that set the pace for the entire game.

Now on to summer baseball.

207 Low turnout elections is a topic which really sets me off. I've been harping on school board elections for years. They are so often held off-season and typically grab a 5% turnout. You know who turns out? The activists. Always. They don't miss elections.

If only 3% of your community are Lefty activists, they will turn out to vote and they will be the majority in a 5% turnout election. And then we piss and moan about the Gramscian March Through The Institutions? How did they get control? Hell, in a big way we GAVE it to them.

208 "the most important races are the down-ballot state and local races"

They always have been.

In Kalifornia the most Kommunist Karens always start out by being Kareny about the schools and their interest has destroyed Kalifornia schools. Not satisfied with that destruction they then run for city council and then supervisor to destroy cities and counties. Finally they make it to Sacto and destroy the entire state.

Earhart was essentially a gold-digger who married a bug media guy so he could advance her publicity and career. She was a badass, no doubt, but she also had a great PR team and cuck husband to make sure her stories made it to national news.

I absolutely despise the modern era where virtually no MLB pitcher throws a complete game (despite seemingly a quarter of them injuring themselves and needing Tommy John surgery).

How many times do you see a starter cruising through the lineup and then they pull him after 100 pitches -- and the bullpen gets clobbered?

Where have you gone Nolan Ryan (who once threw threw 235 pitches in a 13-inning game)

She was smokin' hawt in Slither, James Gunn's only really original film, but yeah, someone needs to shove something into her mouth every time she speaks.

Speaking of fucking up a movie that was a sure thing, she also directed Cocaine Bear, which was decidedly meh, considering the high concept.

My big pitcher crush has always been Maddux. No power pitcher by any means, but 33% "Command" versus 10% MLB average, and he was cerebral as they come.

I tried to get little to understand these stats when he gets frustrated if he's having trouble consistently locating his pitches. That guy was absolutely incredible.

And his victories at New Carthage and Zama were brilliant (less so at Zama because the result was not really in doubt) and yet Hannibal is the one talked about.

The Romans were... odd. They took defeats in a strange way. I would not be surprised to learn that they inflated the casualty figures at Cannae in order to make the defeat worse. It is like they were spurred on and energized by getting beaten and it just pissed them off more. They were pretty unique in the ancient world for that alone, as most other cultures tried to go with a 'ever victorious' narrative.

238 Great vid on YouTube featuring catcher Javy Lopez. He was catching Maddox against Bagwell . Maddux said no low inside pitches. Suddenly Maddux changes his mind and wants to throw a low inside pitch. Lopez says ok an Bagwell hits it to the moon. Lopez says why and Greg says we'll play them on playoffs. Key spot on playoffs Maddux strikes him out on three low outside curves. As he's coming off field Maddux tells "I told you I'd let him up".
