The GOPe Is Alive And Well And Stealing Our Money

Several years ago I made the huge mistake of sending some money to one of the organizations that claim to be "Republican." My usual method is to donate to a particular candidate, and avoid the bloated Republican Party apparatus. But in a moment of weakness and stupidity, I was bamboozled. Or maybe one of those candidates sold my contact information to what has morphed into "WinRed."

I don't remember, and at this point I don't care how it happened. What I do care about is making it stop. But more important than my little experience is the ridiculous, heavy-handed, insulting, and absolutely counter-productive way the Republican Party is trying to raise money.

Here are samples (not comprehensive!) from last week. One of them is my response. It is up to you to decipher which one!

This is just like low-quality phishing or spam that I get via e-mail, but even more irritating because it is being done on behalf of my representatives in our national political debate. Is this the image that the Republican Party wants to convey to its supporters? Scammy URLs that direct to fundraising forms, no matter what the links might say? Irritating pseudo-official notices of "CANCELLATION!?" Rude and obnoxious criticisms of my lack of dedication?

This is offensive junk, and the idea that I will be energized to vote by efforts such as these is laughable. Treat me like an adult, explain the issues, communicate the goals of the organization, and perhaps I will contribute. But this crap has hardened my resolve never to donate again, and worse...it has convinced me that the Republican Party is a deeply unserious organization whose goals are self-serving, and counter to my political philosophy.

Nice going guys!

Like any mailing list, it has been sold multiple times to multiple 3rd party brokers. Then sold again and again. The emails you’re getting are not from any actual campaigns or official party organizations. It’s all scams and grifts.

And it happens the same way on the left. It’s the same 3rd party brokers sending emails saying “send $20 to help Trump save America” as the ones saying “send $20 to save America from Trump”.

It’s all done by AI bots with barely any human intervention.

They do it because it works. From their perspective, they don't care who donates, they care how much comes in. There are people like Joel Osteen or the FlexSeal guy, who make fortunes out of conning the gullible. Sure, there's a price to pay in alienation of potential big donors, but the guys doing marketing don't care.

I donated once to Judicial Watch, and watched the value of my donation obliterated in additional mailing costs. I contacted them and told them to add a button on their website that would tell them to send no further communications; I'd donate when I wished. They didn't do it, so that was my last donation to an org I'd otherwise support.

Come on guys, this isn't complicated.

48 One reason I’ve never donated: early in the Clinton presidency I heard about a political org co-founded by Jack Kemp (who I admired) called Empower America…. So I (naively) wrote them a letter (didn’t send money) expressing support (it was extremely naive… why would I think they’d care about my moral support??). The result: For the next year I got flooded by mail (no email in those days… real genuine snail mail) by them asking for money…. Nothing but money begging. That initiated my travel down the road to cynicism…

The other co-founder IIRC was Vince Weber a retired MN congressman; wonder what ever happened to him?

The last time I made any kind of political contribution was to Scott Brown when he was running for a full term as replacement for Ted The Swimmer. Within 48 hours my debit card number was compromised, buying porn memberships and a profile on some dating website targeting Jewish women.

I knew it was fraudulent because I'm not dumb enough to pay for internet porn when there's plenty of free stuff there for the taking, and as a lapsed Catholic I didn't have a fetish for Jewish women.

The timing was suspicious to say the least, either my info was sold by the campaign itself or Donk commie cocksucker moles were embedded in the Brown campaign financial section and randomly pulling people's info.

145 I get the same text messages almost daily from the GOPe and I just delete them. I know that game. And the phone calls they make where they try to talk fast and over you are especially heavy handy. I wait till they are done with their salespitch (they always ask for $75 and $100, claim to be from Ken Paxton's campaign, which I don't believe) and then advise them that I just donated $25 in the past two weeks, at Paxton's campaign website. They usually jump on this and then try the "well that's great and can we put you down and lock you in for an annual $25, or a $50 contribution?" I always tell them NO, that I want to continue donating based on what I can afford. Once I make that last statement, I will hear - and this is the giveaway - either a grunt or long sigh, like they are disappointed and trying to guilt me.

Now I've tried to reach out (good luck finding a local number in Texas to the actual offices of the Paxton campaign) to call and inquire if these phone calls are really paid for by Paxton for US Senate, because they are always coming across as local numbers in my own area code, not an Austin, Dallas or Texas area code. They are either GOPe, scammers or both!

I think that crew has given up on returning to the fold, instead, they take leftist money as their new grift by fooling those deluded assholes that they are splitting the right. They are basically rented assholes that play GOP on TV in those insufferable panel shows.

Outside of DC, where have you ever heard an actual voter cite the Lincoln Project or similar grifting op as influential to their vote.

But, what you do have is GOP incompetent political consultants stuck in the 90's that aim at separating a lot of old folks from their cash just like every other subscription model.

And they sell or lend their donor lists to others or those can be picked up from FEC/State campaign filings.

For those types, instead of cultivating volunteers, they want to use the grossly expensive tv/radio ad placements, campaign mailers, and robocalls.

They would respond by expanding SCOTUS enough to give them guaranteed wins the next time they get office. Then we'd do the same, ad infinitum. There is no logical stopping point.

As was said in War Games, the only way to win is not to play. However, that might be a bit too complicated for the left to grasp.

In 2012, in a moment of desperation (and ignorance), I donated a significant amount of money to Mitt Romney. In retrospect, the donation went straight into the pockets of greasy consultants who were not committed to victory, and wouldn't know what to do with victory if they got it.

It turned out that it was the same crew of professional grifters who managed McCain to honorable defeat in 2008. They apparently saw their task as "getting paid to run the candidate for office," not actually winning. Then on to the next lucrative defeat. A tremendous amount of squandered campaign funds; paying five times what they had to for media buys, selling campaign services from their own consultancies, etc. Afterward, GOPe maggots kept phoning for donations. No.

I got a WinRed bug on my credit card at some point. I think it was from a different small donation. It was difficult to get the (unasked for) automatic donations halted, but I finally did.

The GOPe is dead. Need a replacement.

And that is because the GOP was never a mass party in the 20th Century. It has defined itself since after the Roosevelt (Teddy) as a pro corporate big donor friendly party. The Democrats started pivoting to that model in the 90's by literally selling their urban cheat machine voters as a bloc.

In both cases, it comes from access to literal stacks of cash that have been borrowed and spent by our government which sticks to the hands of a lot of political donors who pass it on to candidates.

And both parties sell a protection racket to wealthy individuals and corporate interests (and foreigners to be honest) to shake them down for money lest some bad legislation comes up to target them.

This is the uniparty.

More mentally ill and unreasonable people on the left. Twas always so. The fact is in the modern era, the left is far more susceptible to quasi religious based murder sprees than the right. And most of those political violence lists (outside the ridiculous prison riots and White Hispanic gangster inclusion), are not on the right (like the Buffalo and Charlestown SC killers. They are instead broken by calls from nasty assholes online pushing racial warfare. Or like the mentally ill dweebs that caused mass slaughter in AZ or CO, these are so ill that no decipherable political message can come from their mutterings.

The right still clings to old Christian values while the left wants to destroy this world so that their new utopia can be created. They view mass slaughter as a necessary step to get there.

The Dems are harvesting individual donor data for those 3-5 bucks and then turning on the ActBlue smurfing scheme where suddenly those 3-5 buck donations by an individual multiply into the hundreds of thousands of dollars using their name. This is being spiked with illegal monies from big donors that are limited out and foreign sources.

WinRed started doing some of that particularly Thune and I think Lady Lindsay Graham.

That org gets you to give them a credit cart number and they'll do these "micro-charges" on it... maybe $4 or maybe $24 every week. Sometime multiple times a week. Forever. It's harder than hell to get them to stop.

Some schmuck around here went on Facebook to bitch about them years ago. Thousands of dollars over a year. And it had been going on for a long time. Years.

Multiply that by millions of Democrats who contribute to the party.

If the GOP has something similar they're abusing it. Which is completely plausible.

Useful for somethings like doctor visit reminders and payment/bill notifications. Also to communicate with close friends/neighbors on issues like lost dogs, sketchy creeps, etc.

Like landlines/VOIP at home, best to never let your cell phone number get associated with fundraising or any other type of identifier. Bad enough with direct mail to addresses.

You can still get a Google Voice number for free if you have gmail and use that. If you have your own computer and internet services, you can create VOIP numbers for free on the fly just like they do.

We, on the right, focus too much on the DNC fundraising. Since the Obama years, the focus should really be on the Senate, House, and Governor committees along with the loose-goosey fundraising by single purpose NGOs.

That is how the Dems fund their GOTV operations including ballot harvesting, registering illegal or nonexistent voters, etc. They don't do it via the centralized DNC but instead through these pop up operations that last for a cycle or two and then go defunct only to rise as the same people start and run another one.

Stacey Abram's ops are an example. Gone now but existed from 2018-2024.
