27 Glackens was one of the founders of the Ashcan school, which also included Robert Henri, George Luks, John Sloan, and Everett Shinn. My local museum used to have a fair number of paintings from these artists, until the museum went woke and decided we all would be more enlightened by "art" from marginalized communities.

In the larger picture, yea, he didn't get anywhere near the protected individuals. But the event was thrown into chaos, which I don't think was an optimal situation for everyone.

The entire premise of the USSS's mission is that somebody somewhere is willing to risk a bullet to charge a checkpoint. That's why they use security in depth.

I MUCH prefer letting security in depth work as designed instead of having fifty agents on one perimeter firing towards the crowd at a sprinting assassin.

Perhaps that was a failure. We don't know what he was looking at in those three heartbeats or why. Was he being spoken to by his supervisor? A guest? All those things matter and pretending they don't is foolish.

Perhaps he could have tackled Allen. And perhaps he could have shot him.

If he did shoot him, he's betting his career and his freedom that the person he's shooting is armed and intending to kill the President, not a parent chasing a kid, not a speaker about to be late, not any of a dozen innocent but 'looks really bad in the moment' reasons.
