Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | No Surprise: Democrats Plot and Scheme to Impeach Trump on "Day One" If the American People Are Insane Enough to Give Them Control of CongressDemocrat communications shop and Eric Swalwell cover-up agency Axios: A cohort of resistance-minded House Democrats is pushing their colleagues to begin building the case against President Trump now in anticipation of a Day 1 impeachment vote if they retake the House. Why it matters: The mere existence of this movement demonstrates just how much pressure lawmakers who have not yet gotten on board with impeachment will face in January of 2027. "This is something that I keep saying to our leadership ... we need to have a very concrete, coordinated strategy," Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-Ill.) told Axios. The Illinois Democrat said the party should "build up the case so that when we are in power in January, we've created the conditions ... we've done the fact-checking, we've done the shadow hearings, everything we need to be able to to impeach [Trump]." Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) told Axios that if Democrats recapture the House "the push for impeachment is going to be overwhelming." Driving the news: A Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll released Tuesday found that 55% of U.S. adults surveyed said the House should vote to impeach Trump, while just 37% oppose it. "That net +18 verdict," Strength In Numbers author G. Elliott Morris wrote, "puts Trump in the neighborhood of the numbers Richard Nixon saw at the peak of the Watergate scandal in August 1974."Sure. Axios, of course, which covers up for Democrats like Joe Biden and Eric Swalwell, fails to note that this polling outfit has a strong Democrat bias. Google AI: Political Context: The poll often finds results where Democrats lead on generic ballots (e.g., +6 to +8 in mid-2025/2026) and where President Trump's approval is relatively low (often in the mid-30s to low-40s). ... Independent, But Not Necessarily "Neutral": While aiming for objective data, the analysis often highlights areas where public opinion diverges from conservative policies (e.g., high support for ACA subsidies, raising taxes on corporations). It also notes that independent voters are heavily skewed away from Republicans (-30 net rating in some reports), which informs its findingsAgain: Sure. Morris cited Axios' reporting that more than 85 House and Senate Democrats called for Trump to be impeached or removed via the 25th Amendment to the Constitution following his threat to destroy Iran's civilization earlier this month. The big picture: In the immediate aftermath of the 2024 election, Democrats didn't even want to hear the word impeachment. "People ridiculed me," said Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.), who was the first Democrat to introduce articles of impeachment against Trump last year.Yeah, this is just other Democrats attempting to tamp down talk of impeachment for fear of energizing Trump supporters. It's a lie. They will in fact impeach Trump on day one, or at the latest, by the end of month one. This will probably benefit us. Trump's voters don't vote unless Trump himself is on the ballot, which is why we either lose or gas out in the midterms. But Democrats just put Trump on the ballot for the midterms. Jeffries will, at best, get a majority of 10.
I suspect it'll be a majority of about 5. They will convene some kind of impeachment subcommittee on day 1, and it will go for 6 months of theater until they draw something up. Meanwhile, the Senate will be either a 52 or 53 GOP majority. And it will treat the impeachment as seriously as even Mitch McConnell treated the first impeachment against Trump (where only Romney in the GOP caucus voted for conviction on one of two counts). America got the lesson that impeachment is failure theater and toothless in the 1860s. If Andrew Johnson couldn't get impeached, no one can. It's beginning to remind me a bit of how that asshat Charlie Rangel would always put up a bill to re-establish the Draft. Not because he actually wanted one, but because he wanted a Draft to piss off young adults so that they would get involved, and presumably support the Donks. the point is to make it clear this is part of their platform so people vote for them in order to give them the power to actually do it. Publicizing it is an important part of the process. Impeachment will happen, because it carries no weight. 67 Senstots have to convict, which will never happen. Even if they did, it's a removal from office. No other penalties. Once he’s out of office, suddenly he’s vulnerable to criminal charges again, from New York, Georgia, the Hague. actually, in the light of the revelations around SPLC funding all the extremist right, and Whig's comments about the GOP being totally donor-captured, it does make me wonder about if there is a requirement to be a big money donor to a Republican other than having money?

Voters are myopic and dumb. If Trump doesn't wrap up this Iran thing soon, people will remember high gas prices and vote against Trump (by voting Dem). Posted by: Elric The Blade at April 24, 2026 01:32 PM (iFTx/) ====== My assumption is based on a mix of normal political gravity + the current congressional map's compactness from 2020. Both of those seem to be in flux. The flashy one is the latter with the gerrymandering back and forth. But it's the former that's probably going to have the bigger impact. I want to believe that USAID et al getting cut off at the knees (or outright ended) will have a huge impact, but I dunno. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, discovering British horror with Hammer Films at April 24, 2026 01:34 PM (GLVez) ______ I think the lack of USAID money is reflected in the pathetic turnout for all these "no kings" assfucks. But Democrats just put Trump on the ballot for the midterms. _________________________________ This is an optimistic point of view, IMO. On the contrary, Leftist voters are ALL in on being Anti-Trump. They need no other reason to vote and ignore anything but that agenda. Those on the Right, however, consider all facets of a decision inclusive of substance. Some, are, of course ALL in, but far fewer that the Left. Trump's not on the ballot at midterms, and the Democrats just countered that by making it about him. That energizes their voters a hell of a lot more than ours. Posted by: Moron Analyst ===== The history of parliamentary impeachment was based on a very different system and when that system changed, even Parliament got rid of it. Essentially, it was used during the Elizabethan era and the early Stuart regime as a way of attacking the King's ministers and perhaps removing them WITHOUT being able to be accused of disloyalty to the Crown. The pretense was that the king could do no wrong but the ministers could. It was never designed to get rid of the king himself. That required a separate bill from Parliament on different grounds ordering Charles II execution. Eventually after the failures of two well known impeachments, Warren Hastings (Minister to India) and Lord Dundas (admiralty among others), Parliament abandoned using it. The Hastings impeachment was occurring in fits and starts during the Constitutional Convention itself and lasted 7 years without result. The Founders were mixed on impeachment and for good reason. For cabinet officials, it was a clunky way to remove when a President could do so easily. Continued. Posted by: whig at April 24, 2026 02:06 PM (E4rtv) 183

For the President or Vice President, with a party system (not foreseen by Founders), it
became a shadow threat based on partisan emotions rather than for government misconduct (much as the older Parliamentary method was). Johnson, more a less a S. Democrat, was impeached over violating the Tenure in Office Act which was most likely unconstitutional ( see Myers v. US which buried that particular act). And Nixon was impeached primarily because Congress had a massive domination by Democrats and the old S. Democrats were being replaced due to the Voting Rights Act in the South that might have supported and protected him from impeachment. The House was ran by Northern liberals at that point. The Clinton impeachment failed despite the fact he was guilty of the criminal charges but the politics weren't there to cause Democrats to abandon him. Then you have the feckless and likely illegal grounds of the first and the rank stupidity and unconstitutionality of the second impeachment of Trump. The 25th (passed after Ike's health issues and revealed Wilson and FDR infirmities), is a similar constitutional sinkhole. Both ignore the role of parties acting to protect its own. Skeptical members of the House Judiciary Committee asked him whether "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" should be interpreted to include lying under oath about a sexual affair. He replied that the Founders intentionally left that clause vague, in order that it be interpreted by future generations of legislators. He said, it means whatever you want it to mean.
Posted by: Jack Squat Bupkis ====== Not the Founders didn't. It had a specific common law meaning derived from British common law on impeachment powers. Basically, the common charge of a king's minister misbehaving (even if it was under the king's orders like Buckingham), was for consorting with foreign enemies, violating the vague English unwritten constitution and privileges for Parliament for example (trying to arrest them), and otherwise acting against the British people themselves for money, power, etc. MacDonald was a decent early American historian but not a constitutional scholar where specific vague phrases like law of the land (in the US Constitution became due process) mean something buried in a warren of old casebooks of precedents in Coke, Blackstone (lesser degree) and even older sources like Bracton. That said, I'm not worried about what'll happen if (when) Trump loses the birthright citizenship case. By 'Boasberg's' logic, if Trump were to lose, I would just get the IRS to levy taxes on any anchor baby born in the USA that is living abroad and now making any sort of income - especially in China. Pay up, or you forfeit your citizenship. I bet you'll see a lot of tax exile paperwork coming in at that point - or else we'd get a lot of money. To me, that would be a much better use for 85,000 IRS agents.
Posted by: Darrell Harris ======= That is an ingenious solution Darrell and likely to be constitutional. There are some suggestions that a similar approach be used on copyright (and it was used in the past). Basically a fee system for renewal that goes up as the age of the copyright increases. I bribed my daughter when she was young to read books. I'm a Dean Koontz fan so one book I bribed her to read was Watchers. I'm now bribing her son, my grandson, to read it. It is a syfy/horror, but a very life affirming one, about a super intelligent dog create by recombinant DNA who escapes the lab and takes up with a young couple who become aware of his intelligence and decide to teach him to read. They do so using children's picture books. The dog's favorites include books by Phil Parks. I'd never heard of Phil Parks so I looked him up to see what's so special about him. Turns out it's a pen name Koontz uses when writing children's stories.

One thing that some modern analysis of the Clinton impeachment miss is that for 10 years or so the left/FNM had been on the warpath against sexual harassers in office.
They had gotten Bob Packwood to resign, and the left anchored its opposition to Clarence Thomas on the argument he had once told a female coworker a dirty joke. Then in rapid succession it came out Clinton was having an affair with an intern, he'd sexually harassed a bunch of the women that worked for him, and he had sexually assaulted another woman. And the Thomas standard suddenly changed to "the president is allowed to have a sex life" Posted by: 18-1 at April 24, 2026 02:27 PM (sKqQm) 278
