Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump to Iran: I'm Giving You Primitive Screwheads "Three to Five Days" to Come Up With a United Government Position, Or Else It's Bombs AwayAs you probably know, parts of the Iran "government," such as it is, are making conciliatory noises while others are crying Death to America and ordering attacks on ships. I think this is typical Muslim hudna bullshit -- "negotiating" just to regroup before the next unbroken-for-1300-years war on the world -- but hopefully Trump has reached the end of his patience for this rope-a-dope. Axios:U.S. officials first began to see the divisions after the first round of Islamabad talks, when it became clear IRGC commander Gen. Ahmad Vahidi and his deputies had rejected much of what Iran's own negotiators had discussed. The split broke into the open last Friday. When Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC refused to implement it -- and began publicly attacking him. Someone must have put the Democrats in charge of Iran's finances because they're not paying Homeland Security. Or... so Trump says. I don't know. The mullahs will make sure the first and last pennies they have left are used to pay their secret police and terrorists. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent

I think part of the administration's strategy is to get the EU to pull their own weight. They rely on the petro products from Iran more than the US. So there's that.
And there are likely contingency plans being drawn up to secure the Hormuz. But that will likely mean US sailors and Soldiers will be directly in harms way, yet able to dish out some harm of their own. One has to believe there was a "plan" to deal with the Hormuz if Iran/IRGC was this recalcitrant. Maybe it's just taking a while to get the pieces into place. I agree Ace, based on what I have observed. Trump’s strength is that he is a bit scary and a bit unpredictable. But, his weakness is that he communicates to much and he has only been communicating that he is desperate for a deal. He would have been better off just saying that we are done bombing for now, and not seeking a deal with Iran. He should have said “if they act-up we will come back and devastate them again”. But, making a “deal” means we have to concede. And, Iran has the upper hand if we need a deal. This is mostly about perceptions. Iran is f-ed no matter what and they will be weak a long time. But, now Trump will be judged by whether he got a deal and the terms of the deal.

That is what Iran was doing before anything kicked off. Here's how these things work: 1. Set up company in a trendy industry. Like, you know, a winery. 2. Offer investments in the company at insanely inflated prices. The "investors" are usually (but not always) in on it. 3. Use the income from "investments" for any purpose you want. 4. Company ultimately folds, but so what? The entire thing was set up to basically launder money, and it accomplished its goal. Ever wonder why every rando THOT has some cosmetics or beauty business? Posted by: Ex Rex Reeder at April 22, 2026 02:31 PM (QaH55) Usually the converse of that is true. The oil in the reservoir is floating on top of the salt water. Pump on the well to hard, and suction will draw the oil/water interface up into a cone, with its apex at the wellbore. Same happens with fresh water wells on islands. Feminists are just Neo-Bolsheviks with vaginas and nose-rings who want to destroy men, the family, and the United States. They don't actually give a fuck about actual systemic oppression and mistreatment of women which is why they don't have a single word to say about this, or Islamic countries normalizing beating and raping women, or grooming and trafficking gangs in the UK. Me. If Iran has to shut it's oil wells, do they become useless? If so, why
SuperGrok: No, Iran’s oil wells do not become completely useless if shut down, but prolonged or abrupt shut-ins can cause significant, often irreversible damage that permanently reduces the amount of recoverable oil and lowers future production rates—sometimes by 25–50% or more in affected wells or zones. This is especially relevant for Iran because most of its major oil fields (such as those in the Asmari and Bangestan formations) are mature, decades-old reservoirs that already rely on natural water drive, fractures, and secondary recovery methods. Many have been under-maintained due to sanctions, making them more vulnerable Posted by: Stateless - He ain't heavy, he's my dog. Old, but full of life. at April 22, 2026 02:44 PM (Sco7b) 105

You know where the reservoir is, how deep it is, and what the remaining reserves are. It would be very easy, and quick, to drill new wells, better situated to exploit the remaining reserves. If there is regime change in Iran, and the good guys win, there would be money made in helping them get the oil fields up and running again. SuperGrok continued....
Why damage happens (key mechanisms) Here’s what typically occurs during extended shut-ins (weeks to months or longer, as happens when exports are blocked and storage fills up): Water coning and capillary trapping: In mature fields with underlying aquifers (common in Iran’s carbonate reservoirs), shutting in the well removes the pressure gradient that keeps water down. Bottom water rises (cones) into the oil zone. Capillary forces then trap oil in the rock pores, making it physically unrecoverable through the existing wellbore. This oil is effectively “locked away” forever in that part of the reservoir. Precipitation and clogging: Iran’s crude often contains asphaltenes, waxes, and paraffins. When flow stops, these can solidify and block pores, perforations, tubing, and surface equipment. Scale buildup and fines migration (tiny rock particles moving and jamming flow paths) add to the blockage Posted by: Stateless - He ain't heavy, he's my dog. Posted by: Cuthbert the Witless at April 22, 2026 02:39 PM (LD+oO) The other gulf states are extraordinarily weak from a military standpoint. The Saudi's and the UAE have a decent air force, but no competent ground forces. Remember that with US backing the Saudi's tried to do a ground invasion of Yemen not all that long ago; and they got their asses kicked by a bunch of goatherds. The only military forces with any real significance in the Middle East belong to Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Israel. Egypt is too far away to concern itself with what's going on in Iran, and no one wants Erdogan to have anything to do with this situation. So there's not going to be any deus ex machina dropping in from some unexpected quarter. Posted by: Tom Servo at April 22, 2026 02:46 PM (rGqqI) 119

SuperGrok last...
Pressure imbalances and geomechanical effects: Reservoir pressure can equalize unevenly. In fractured reservoirs (typical of many Iranian fields), this leads to poor sweep efficiency when production restarts. Fractures may close or allow uneven water breakthrough. Corrosion and equipment degradation: Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S, common in Iranian crudes) and stagnant fluids accelerate corrosion of downhole equipment, casings, and pumps. Sand/debris can settle and bury pumps or assemblies. Restarting may require major workovers. Restarting is possible—but costly and incomplete Short-term shut-ins (days/weeks) are often manageable with minimal loss. Longer ones require weeks to months of work (chemical treatments, workovers, pressure rebalancing) to restart, and full pre-shut-in rates are rarely recovered. Iran’s fields already face natural decline; sanctions limit access to chemicals, spare parts, and advanced recovery tech, so damage is harder to fix Posted by: Stateless - He ain't heavy, he's my dog. You know where the reservoir is, how deep it is, and what the remaining reserves are. It would be very easy, and quick, to drill new wells, better situated to exploit the remaining reserves. If there is regime change in Iran, and the good guys win, there would be money made in helping them get the oil fields up and running again. If the bad guys remain in charge, no point in letting have oil to sell, is there?

Posted by: Cuthbert the Witless at April 22, 2026 02:39 PM (LD+oO) The other gulf states are extraordinarily weak from a military standpoint. The Saudi's and the UAE have a decent air force, but no competent ground forces. Remember that with US backing the Saudi's tried to do a ground invasion of Yemen not all that long ago; and they got their asses kicked by a bunch of goatherds. The only military forces with any real significance in the Middle East belong to Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Israel.
