8 Woke up in middle of night , reading a bit to get sleepy again. Saw Labor Secretary resigned, forgot about her. Always was thought to be Trump’s worst cabinet pick, looks like she ran the office like it was a set for a telenovelo. So bad it’s almost funny. Well she’s gone.

9 Apple has really done well as a corporation. Now, with new leadership they need to look at space, the Moon, Mars, - think big, think outside of the box.

11 Guessing the Labor Sec was a bit too tied into the unions. PDT gave the union rep a chance and now he needs a union buster. I wonder if Mr nec wants to come out of retirement? That was part of his career. Profit and union taming. They go hand in hand.

12 Yesterday's glimpses of God moments:

I was out for lunch with a friend. We hadn't seen each other for a while. While sitting in a restaurant another woman came with a beautiful tee shirt in colorful script which read, "Creator". That reminded me of the creator - God Then when I went to a little store nearby I passed a car which had on the back bumper a sticker which said, " I hope something good happens to today. " I thought that was very nice.

I love that one.

18 And now, the content:

He will be succeeded by John Ternus, Apple's President of Hardware Engineering.

That could be a good decision, so long as Ternus is an engineer himself.

New cost-effective HUDIMMs show a 50% reduction in bandwidth when compared with regular DDR5 modules.

And let me guess, we can't have any of that either?

Well, SK Hynix workers are staring down the barrel of nearly half a million dollars in bonuses.

Prediction: Memory quality is going to drop sharply in the months following the payout of those bonuses. (Hookers and blow are a hell of a distraction.)

The EU launched its own age verification app. It was hacked in two minutes.

20 -" The man of many handles" seems to be under the impression that I am reporting him to the Cobs. In my entire time here I think I wrote to Ace once about an anti semetic troll. I have never reported TMOMH about anything he says. The Cobs are perfectly capable of recognizing the style of that particular poster.

24 @19/FenelonSpoke: Last time that happened between mine and both my daughters' phones, the solution turned out to be a full power-down of all of the phones, letting them sit for a minute, then powering them all up again.

That solved our problem. Messages started flowing properly.

Good morning, Hordians. Rain this morning at Schloss Hadrian. Getting Her Majesty and The Big Dummy on the road to Tulsa for shows starting Wednesday. TBD has been bathed and groomed and the RV largely loaded. Just some frozen foods and HM's electronics.

28 The more I read about the age verification junk the more my initial impression seems confirmed: it's not really about age verification. It's about doing away with anonymity on the net. Every time the app-of-the-day gets busted, well, the saying goes, "The purpose of a thing is what it does..."

Identities leaked? That's not a bug, that's _the_ feature.

32 @28/Thing From Snowy Mountain:

Nailed it. And the way to neuter or remove these new age-verification (identity disclosure) laws is to make sure some very prominent and powerful politicians get identified as participants on a breached server where very illegal "career-ending" things were taking place.

Now would be a good timer for all the B-52 in England to take off and head east, just to make the Iranian government think for a change.

46 I am legitimately surprised that Apple didn't put an Indian in as CEO. They're also the only tech company that hasn't lost its mind over AI. I've hated them for ages but I'm starting to rethink that.

47 Evening and morning, late toilers and early risers! I've slept late-ish again, late for me with no big black cat to wake me. There were dreams, unmemorable except I was left with a faint feeling that they tended toward the nightmare and I was well out of them.

So! Coffee, a brisk workout, breakfast, and then I'm off to look at two or three more houses in Salina. As I wrote last night, I am not sanguine about finding what I want in my price range.

50 Temp in Salina, KS: 60, feels like 56, with 20 mph winds -- so I guess I won't be going outside for a pipe this morning. Probably not this afternoon, either. Even with a lighter it's hard to get a pipe lit under those conditions. Maybe on Thursday with the rain coming I can nip down to the pipe shop in Wichita, sit for a while, and commune with the briar and the leaf.

Though there is a vape-type "smoke" shop only a couple miles from here. I wonder if they would mind if I had a pipe there if I bought some pipe cleaners . . .?

51 mornin yall. I ordered an Intel Arc Pro B70 video adapter yesterday. We will see how it compares with the $2k RTX 4000. I'll run my own benchmarks to see if it's worth saving $800 for video adapter.

$350 for 32gb of DDR5 6400. That ain't right.

_____________

It's a good thing I lived a solitary life before marrying HM. Being by myself doesn't bother me. When she's on the road, I call at 7:00 AM to check in and that may be it for the day apart from the odd text message.

But really I feel her here too. If, God forbid, something were to happen to her, I'd be alone in a different and frightening way.
