The Morning Report - 4/ 17/26

Iran Chop.jpg

Good morning kids, first up President Trump looks to be racking up, if not wins, then for sure some solid "gains" on the Iranian and related Middle Eastern fronts:

For sure without having the Mullahs on the ropes, this could not have happened. While the ceasefire is "temporary" it is something. Either Aoun thinks the Mullahs are indeed through or else they'll somehow outlast the combined "Epic Fury" of the US and Israel. Time will indeed tell.

Trump said on Truth Social that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun agreed to a temporary ceasefire that would begin at 5:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday. Ambassadors for the two countries met for the first time in more than 34 years on Tuesday for negotiations mediated by Rubio in Washington, D.C.

That said, President Trump is crowing about the latest developments vis a vis negotiations.

He said Iran’s current posture reflects a shift from before the U.S.-Israel campaign, when Tehran had resisted those terms. “They’re willing to do things today that they weren’t willing to do two months ago,” Trump said.

Again, as I and others have been saying all along, the President is stuck in an art of the deal mindset in which he thinks he thinks he is dealing with opponents who are of a similar mindset, as opposed to Dark Age savages who for close to 1500 years have longed for armageddon as the path to global domination, and who view deception and lying as acceptable and effective tools to bring the aforementioned about. Whether President Trump understands the true nature of Islam and is merely playing for time and or giving lip service to the Mullahs and world opinion and engaging himself in 11 dimensional taqqiya, or is gulping down another taqqiya sunrise is the question.

Closer to home we have the utterly useless and worse collaborationist GOP still to contend with:

Ten GOP House members voted in favor of extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians ahead of a potential Supreme Court ruling on the matter. The Thursday vote to effectively grant amnesty and block deportation of roughly 350,000 Haitian migrants passed the House 220-207. Notably, the final vote was preceded by the adoption of a resolution to bring the bill to the floor, which saw seven Republican defectors join House Democrats.

What more can be said that has not already been written about these bastards. The GOP, insofar as the traitors, flunkies and criminal conspirators who aid and abet the destruction of the Republic so long as they can wet their beaks at the public trough must be utterly and ruthlessly purged. I had hoped and still hope that Trump's descent from the Trump Tower escalator almost 11 years ago now was the opening salvo in that crusade, and not a mere fluke.

For our final entry for today and to cap off the week, I'll leave you with an "Is This Something>" story to ponder:

Concern Grows Over 10 Missing or Deceased NASA, Nuclear, and Defense Researchers Trump: “Well, I hope it’s random, but we’re going to know in the next week and a half. I just left a meeting on that subject. So, pretty serious stuff.”

China? Russia? Iran or all of the above? or have they been "Mangioni'ed by our own homegrown brownshirts?

On that note,

Have a great weekend!

Good morning kids.

27 As Calvin Coolidge said on the 150th anniversary of the Declaration:

“If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people.”

Washington, D.C. - April 17, 2026 - Heavily armed U.S. Capitol Police officers responded early Friday morning to reports of a shooting in the Navy Yard neighborhood of southeast Washington, D.C., in the vicinity of a high-ranking government official. The shooting occurred at about 10:30 PM EST Thursday night.

Independent journalist Nick Sortor, who was on scene, reported that the incident involved an armored black Chevrolet Suburban - a vehicle typically used to transport congressional leaders and members of the President's cabinet. Sortor stated that he personally witnessed the official being safely extracted from the area by undercover Capitol Police officers, with uniformed personnel providing cover while carrying long rifles.

54 Yep that's a great quote from one of our best Presidents.

To me, I look at a Washington or a Lincoln or a Reagan or a Trump as great examples of crisis Presidents - guys who attack huge problems, and don't create too many more in the process.

But Coolidge is a model of what Presidents are supposed to be most of the time. Fair, calm, and results-oriented, but principled to the point of intransigence. He was personally morally upright enough that not even his fiercest critics ever bothered trying to call his rectitude into question. Highly intelligent and perspicacious, but never clever - IOW, wise.

Unfortunately, since we now lurch from crisis to crisis until the final one, we're unlikely to see another President like him.

I remember that area before the public housing, gay bars, and other entities were razed to build the ballpark, and now it's the ballpark, the soccer stadium, and a bunch of expensive apartments/condos and office buildings. That area has a huge problem with teenagers and young adults causing trouble at all hours of the day (particularly at night). The mayor and MPD are in a constant state of enacting a curfew for that area, letting it lapse, and enacting it again.

Besides AOC, there are a bunch more members of Congress who live in that area. But if it was a cabinet member or SCOTUS justice, then the USCP was providing backup to another agency who had primary responsibility for that person.

I read it as the part of the Navy Yard neighborhood which is by the baseball stadium, versus the actual Navy Yard a bunch of blocks to the east (which is where some cabinet members are living as you mention). That's the area with the crime problems, and I think it's exacerbated not just by the Metro station but also because you can use South Capitol Street to make a quick getaway by car.

96 I understand the skepticism re: Trump's comments on Iran, however, Trump is the one of the only people in the entire government that understands our greatest weapon: economic leverage. And he is applying it well re: Iran. They have less than three weeks until their oil wells will have to shut down and almost never be re-opened.

That is leverage no other politician paid by the globalists - including Iran - has played since November 22 1963.

Yes, FISA was itself an attempt to reform out of control IC agencies from unrestricted spying on Americans. While many of us decry the judges on the FISA Court, because they are deep state stooges and hate us, the Patriot Act (passed after 9/11) and the 2008 amendment additions to the original FISA structures are what Five Eyes and the US agencies are now using.

Since Trump is the most famous victim of the abuses, we were all hoping he would not renew the crap sandwich parts of the law, or at least reform it. But he seems to have his hands full right now, I guess, and thinks it is too important to let lapse.

Does that mean that their situations aren't linked? No. Does it mean that nothing weird is going on? No. But, in all likelihood, people are seeing things which aren't real.

Don’t forget the oral arguments in the Supreme Court starts this month for TPS. The timing is great because this is another example to show the higher courts cancellation isn’t right. I’m not sure this bill is dead.

With the situation in Haiti being what it is, this vote is good news. It’s hard to believe the push to remove these people has nothing to do with Trump’s ridiculous lies about them during the last presidential election.

I think it's a bit more sinister than that. The Obama/Biden plan was not to stop Iran, just the opposite. They wanted to make Iran the center of power in the Middle East. They never really wanted to stop Iran from getting a nuke. They just wanted it to not be obvious they did want them to get one. And much of the deep state was onboard with the plan.

That's where the current wave of anti-semitism came from. They hate a strong Israel and did everything they could to demonize Israel and make it responsible for Middle East instability and violence no matter how stupid and obviously backward that idea is. The Trump doctrine of ridding the ME of the mullahs and peaceful coexistence in the ME by the arabs and Israelis is the complete opposite of what they wanted.

While he is the supreme commander of the Armed Forces, he has no actual authority over the military, which is controlled by the Prime Minister.

How elderly Americans amassed disproportionate wealth and power

"Although political gerontocracy has operated overtly, the rising economic power of the elderly has escaped much notice. Over the past 40 or so years, American wealth has grown ever more concentrated among the oldest generations. In 1989, Americans over age 55 held 56 percent of it; today they hold 74 percent. During that same period, the share of wealth held by Americans under 40 has shrunk by nearly half, from 12 to 6.6 percent. The color of money is now gray."

I wonder how they define vendor. And I wonder how technologically illiterate Congress is.

Would a free Linux distro be required to abide by this? Would that distro be forced to put safeguards in place to prevent someone from swapping out the piece which does age verification with one that doesn't? Would the distro be legally liable when someone's personally identifying information is leaked by the OS?

I assume this is from watching too much TV about medical people that just care too much or reading about billionaire tech bros.

And you just can't through to them that most people work to make money not because they love whatever they do. Yes, some jobs are definitely better then others, which is why you try to match your skill set to something you at least don't hate.

But people work to make money so they can buy the good and services they want which are in turn jobs done by other people working to buy the goods and services they want.

234 The Nazis brazenly murdered half the Catholic priests in Germany and every Polish priest and nun that fell into their hands. Pope Pius XII barely uttered a peep.

-----

I made this point the other day... for better or worse, the Church chose silence instead of confrontation when it came to the Nazis.

For the analogy to hold in the Benedict/Francis/Leo progression, the Church would have had to force out Pius and eventually replace with him the Nazi Bishop Hudal.

This is not moral cowardice, but complicity in handing over control of the Church to a truly insidious political party. Very bad. Historically bad.

Used to enjoy sitting on my deck at dusk and watching the bats come out to feed on the mosquitos.

France has an actual CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery) that can launch jets fully loaded, unlike the UK, but one carrier doesn't provide a lot of coverage, and can only be deployed sporadically.

.. the irony in this is that the British invented the steam powered catapult.

I was told stories of the US during WWII trying to fit them into US ships at the Philadelphia Navyard. Since they hadn't actually gone thru the development cycle, they had no idea just what these catapults could do. So they found a metal cart and filled it with metal blocks to make it heavier, then fired it off. The metal cart flew down to and thru a chain-link fence and into a parking lot, where it looked like the 'B-roll' of a comedy as pieces of car flew into the air.

Importantly, it noted that "... people from different cultures will react differently to the same circumstances. That is because, cognitively, they are not the same circumstances." And it explains that different cultures will react differently to the same stimuli, with the pros and cons of that.

The dearly departed Scott Adams called this "Two Movies on One Screne" - the same event, but viewed and processed differently.

They like talkin about murderin, they like the criminals that do the murderin, and when they can't get enough murderin, they'll do the murderin themselves! Even their own family, for convenience I'd assume.

Use the bat signal.

311 Believe it or not, I have rescued some bats because they ventured into a space that they couldn't get out of on their own. They're not particularly clean in my opinion, but they've shown no aggression.

An interesting critter. Not something I would want to turn into a pet.

314 Put up bat houses. Line the outside of the houses with black roofing felt and mount them so they have a southern exposure. The felt is to absorb more heat from the sun's rays, as bats like it hot in there during the day when they sleep.

Of course he knows. He is among the select few public officials who knew what the Democrats and to a lesser extent Republicans were. He knows. Anyone that says he doesn't is fooling himself.

318 293 For Trump - deals are a way for everyone to gain benefits. For Islam, it's a way to rearm and then kill your opponents. Hopefully he understands Taqiyya.
Posted by: Another Anon at April 17, 2026 09:26 AM (4h45B

He needs to understand a lot more than that.

Way too many people think that Taqiyya is the only form of Islamic lying.

Oh, no, there are so, so, so many more.

321 Good morning, all, and thank you, J.J.

From above "Ten GOP House members voted in favor of extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians ahead of a potential Supreme Court ruling on the matter."

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti has been in place for over 16 years, initially designated in January 2010 following a 7.0-magnitude earthquake. While designed as a temporary, renewable status, it has been continually extended—and periodically redesigned—due to ongoing crises, including political instability and violence.

It affords protection from deportation, work authorization (EAD), and eligibility for travel authorization. The status allows beneficiaries to remain legally in the U.S. and obtain a social security number.

Haiti’s TPS designation and related benefits were last slated to terminate on February 3, 2026.

🤔 Can a social security number and valid driver's license be used as voter identification? (And, yes, depending on your state, proof of citizenship to vote may need to be provided but that's an easy-peasy hurtle.)

322 This is interesting, too: CHNV and TPS are separate, distinct programs for Haitians (and Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans).

Both provide legal stay and work authorization (EADs) for up to two years and, reportedly, many Haitians who arrived on Biden's CHNV parole program (that allegedly required a sponsor and initiation outside the U.S.) applied for TPS to secure a longer-term status once their two-year parole expired, with some holding both concurrently.

The CHNV has provided an array for public benefits ($) including family reunification, community-based services, such as English language training and employment preparation for up to five years from their date of eligibility.

The program was finally terminated, following a Supreme Court decision on May 30, 2025, for more than 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began sending notices via the myUSCIS portal and encouraging self-deportation through the CBP Home Mobile App.

And employers with affected staff were advised that, upon receiving a revocation notice, the employees no longer had valid authorization to work.

Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at April 17, 2026 10:13 AM (NFX2v)

323 However, many of those individuals secured a different legal statuses, such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or asylum, through Biden's admin.

Will they ever leave? What do you think are the odds when they're being hidden and supported? And isn't that also why, in part, Congress continues to also pass funding to continue Medicare and Medicaid?

That, and getting us some new voters.

Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at April 17, 2026 08:58 AM (BI5O2)

No. The Church actively supported the Nazis, spiriting them away to South America.

They didn't choose silence. They chose sides.
