Saturday Night Jokes and Other Funnies

A man visited his doctor, and the doctor checked him over before commenting, "It looks like you get a fair bit of exercise."

The man replied, "Oh yeah, in fact, just the other day I walked 5 miles over rugged terrain as I climbed over rocks and trees. I also waded along the edges of a lake, pushing my way through tall thistles, and even slid down sandy slopes while getting sand in my eyes."

The doctor was quite impressed. "Well, you are certainly a dedicated outdoorsman."

The man replied, "Not really, doctor. I'm just a really bad golfer."

---------

A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says, "That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen. Ugh!"

The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her, "The driver just insulted me!"

The man says, "You go right up there and tell him off, I'll hold your monkey for you."

Proposed adult entertainment, seafood venue in Johnstown canceled

Plans for a combination seafood restaurant and adult entertainment business in Johnstown have been called off after city officials raised concerns about a proposed "Crabhouse Lounge" in a residential neighborhood.

City officials said they learned about the plan Tuesday after Facebook posts circulated about a business along Strayer Street in the West End of Johnstown. The posts, made by a man renting a home there, said the "Crabhouse Lounge" would be opening May 1st with strippers and seafood.

Mayor Rev. Sylvia King said city leaders also considered how such a business could affect the surrounding community.

"We have to be cognizant the decisions that we make not only affect us but affect others around us. And especially we have to be concerned about what our children see," King said.

The man who had planned the lounge declined to go on camera but said he was only going to sell seafood platters and that nothing else would be sold. He said he viewed it more as a hangout or gathering than a business, but said the plan is now officially canceled.

California man accused of using pasta to replace stolen Legos

Irvine police arrested a man accused of stealing $34,000 worth of high-end Lego sets and replacing the plastic bricks with pieces of dry pasta.

Jarrelle Augustine, 28, allegedly stole expensive sets, such as Star Wars and Marvel, and sealed up the Lego boxes before returning them to the stores for refunds, according to the Irvine Police Department.

"One of the cases that occurred here in Orange County, they shared that they opened the box and instead of Legos, they found bags of dry pasta," Officer Ziggy Azarcon said.

Investigators said the dry pasta mimics the sound of Legos when they're shaken.

The officer's name was Ziggy?!

Paul Revere's Ride

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.

He said to his friend, "If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light, -
One, if by land, and two, if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm."

Club ONT acknowledges the recent "accounting discrepancy" that led some to believe that Club ONT has a net worth of $30 million. Club ONT accountants prepared the filing (trained at the Quality Learing Center) and Club ONT signed it, but Club ONT assets are substantially less. We never had millions. Swearsies. If we did, the money is long gone. It totally did not go to our friends and family in Somalia. Club ONT regrets that you made such a mistake and will accept your apology. In other news, we're busy making our accounts payable file disappear with the benefit of "accounting discrepancies."

5 Closing Sermon Words
A preacher was completing a temperance sermon: with great expression he said, "if I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."

With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."

And then finally, he said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river."

He sat down. The song leader then stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn #365: "Shall We Gather at the River."

52 Raising money for extra security at the kid's private school (not sure what this will bring, as it is already secure. Maybe a machine gun tower and I can volunteer. Or a trans detector device).

Anyway a nun has a veg and flower garden and people donated a basket of gardening stuff and I decided I wanted it. Because I garden and it looks pretty good. Worth a lot more than I paid for it and I felt guilty (thinking I was ripping off a nun, but I wasn't and felt better about it).

I haven't bid on anything in decades, but I used to be pretty ruthless on ebay if I wanted an antique print (if you must know, A. Atkinson Fox in art deco frames. I inherited one from my grandmother and it sent me into a greed obsession).

The bid extended into today. Under son's credit card I think I was bidding against myself, so he said and my now he and my husband will probably have an intervention with me.

How sad for us all, but I really wanted it and won. I hope the nun is happy. I would have spent more but no one bid against me. Once I make my mind up get out of my way!

On ebay I was the spoiler who would zip in at the last minute and win. I may be a really bad bidder but that's the way I do it.

Paul Revere's ride was a night and a day affair. He was pulling John Hancock's trunk (filled with confidential documents) across Lexington Green while the local militia were lining up to receive the Regulars.

Typing of which, I strongly recommend David Hackett Fischer's superb book "Paul Revere's Ride". It covers the events leading up to the battles at Lexington and Concord and the British retreat to Boston.

68 I've had a busy day of mostly doing nothing due to being tired from yesterday.

I was watching Tousi news and got upset that five of his people got arrested in Calais for wanting to do a documentary of the barbarian invasion. Which has gone on for over a decade. With Startled Starmer in Paris with Macron (giving each other enemas) I figure it was his idea (Tousi mocks Starmer a lot). All is well now and the Embassy let them go with an apology. I hope he moves to the USA. It ticked me off.

Then I was bidding for the garden basket and someone I know who likes exotic dogs sent me photos of this dog. Who looks mean to me (a puppy). Cost a bundle vs a rescue. And to make matters worse she is carrying the dog in a sling, while supposedly having back problems (her, not the dog). Like it is a kangaroo. The dog looks alarmed as if it had met Meghan Markle, and I had to drink wine at this point of my afternoon.

I know this dog is going to be psycho like all their other dogs and bark and bite a lot. Sad.

I’ve since looked up the roster that year and realized that Hank Aaron was in that game, but sadly the only thing that impressed my young mind at that game was Chief Knock-a-Homa, who cavorted for much of the game right in front of us. (We had base line seats)

A survey called DESI just completed the most detailed 3D map of the observable universe to date. It surveyed over 47 million galaxies out to 11 billion ly. Even here, it didn't cover the entire sky, just around 1/4 of it.

https://is.gd/atexlm

Click on that image at the top --that's just a small portion of they sky. That reveals the large scale filamentary (cosmic web) structure of the universe at the largest scale. It's sort of like a foam.

The woman that the judge did not think she suffered enough shame from Johnny's Deep Fake AI where he claimed she was his Korean girlfriend. Remember her?

Her online handle is BongBong_IRL. Her lawyer is urging the prosecutor to file an appeal stating the six-month sentence is not long enough. That the judge arbitrarily deciding that BongBong_IRL being stoic in her victim impact statement meant she was not really ashamed sets a dangerous precedent.

Legal Mindset is now saying if the appeal is filed, Johnny Somali not only faces his original six-month sentence but could be stuck sleeping next to the toilet for a further six months as the appeal is processed.

129 >> It should be decelerating and this has the cosmologists in a tizzy as it is unexplainable with current theories. Is that true?

This is a pretty complex thing and I can't really do it justice, but I'll try to hit the high spots. Best thing to do is a lot of reading to get the full picture. :-)

General Relativity gives a big picture model of what "a universe" should look like. Basically a big ball of matter-energy with some initial conditions. Call these "Big Bang" solutions. It will fly apart at first, then gradually slow down. If the initial density was great enough, it would eventually stop, then collapse back on itself. If the density was below that, it would fly apart forever.

But in all cases, the expansion rate would be decreasing. But in 1998, some observations determined that this rate was increasing.

Now, this revived something considered long dead, Einstein's famous fudge factor, the Cosmological Constant. [continued]

While it's hard to believe, so much has been learned since then, when Einstein first formulated GR, the true large scale structure of the universe wasn't known. Galaxies outside of our own Milky Way weren't even know. Andromeda was thought to be a "nebula", it's true nature and distance away wasn't known.

It was thought at the time the universe was static. A large distribution of mass, stars and so forth that was just sitting there so to speak. There were local dynamics, like our solar system, binary stars and all that orbiting around each, but they though the large scale was static.

Now the problem was GR equations didn't allow for such a thing. The universe as whole would be dynamic. So Einstein put in a fudge factor to counteract gravity and allow for static solutions.

Then came Hubble. Einstein could've predicted the expansion of the universe from pure theoretical considerations well before Hubble. He called it his greatest blunder because of that. Now, truth is, had he predicted such a thing c. 1918, it might have been so radical they would've thought he had flipped his lid, and dismissed the whole thing, rather than trying to verify less radical predictions.

And so after Hubble, the cosmological constant went into the dustbin of history, a fudging blunder. But, it's exactly what would would produce an accelerating expansion. So, 1998 brought it back, but with a twist that wasn't the original purpose.

You can think of it as just a term in the GR equations, which says "empty space expands". Rather than sitting there, empty spacetime is dynamic itself, has a certain curvature.

Or, you can think of it as some sort of physical "stuff" that behaves like a cosmological constant, different from ordinary matter. They called this "dark energy". And there we are.

Now, turns out some recent observations are calling into question that presumed accelerating expansion, though. The jury will be long out on this, though.

Something else you might be interested, another couple of big problems is the so-called Hubble Tension, and another less well-know conflict called the S8 Tension.

There are two methods of determining the current Hubble "constant" (it's not really constant with time, it's the current value). One is the "early universe" method, based on the CMB and high redshift stuff, vs local "late" measurements using Type 1a supernovae as standard candles, as they call it.

The first method comes up with a value of H0 at around 68 (km/s)/Mpc and the late method comes with about 73. It was though this was just due to uncertainty and some systemic bias and as measurements got better and more accurate, the discrepancy would disappear.

It didn't, and got even worse. Early method tightened around 68, while the late method tightened around 73.

And the S8 tension is about how our local region (local being a relative thing, actually YUGE compared to the Milky Way) is less "clumpy" that early CMB observations would predict.

Both of these are a big problem with the current models.

231 Publius, I thought I read somewhere that the discrepancies in the Hubble constant were resolved if you allowed the Universe, as a whole, to rotate, i.e., have angular momentum. Also, what pushes matter apart would be dark energy: dark matter, like any other matter, attracts, hence the question of MACHO vs. WIMP theories, both based on some sort of attractive matter.

232 >>With the judicial insurrection ongoing against Trump, every action has to be triple checked and justified, or else it will be thrown out.

Sad that our society has fallen so far that we aren't satisfied unless we are as corrupt as the left.

Ft Pierce, Floruda. Thats's the place to watch.

235 I’ve never had any problem with dark matter: there’s something there, or the galaxies wouldn’t rotate the way they do. I’ve always had my doubts about dark energy, although the vacuum Casimir effect means it’s real too. I just doubt it’s so plentiful. It does make wormholes and time travel possible, so it’s fun to think about.

236 JackStraw, what is the significance of Ft. Pierce?

237 146 While it's hard to believe, so much has been learned since then, when Einstein first formulated GR, the true large scale structure of the universe wasn't known. Galaxies outside of our own Milky Way weren't even know. Andromeda was thought to be a "nebula", it's true nature and distance away wasn't known.

Einstein didn't think much of the "theory of the primordial atom" (early description of the big bang) when it was first introduced. The Catholic Church, however, embraced it. Interesting that the Church could have uttered "Eppur si muove" to the world's leading scientist at the time.
