Chassis THPNMD04013 subsequently spent 18 years on display at the Yankee Candle Car Museum in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, prior to being offered on BaT in October 2018 and was subsequently repainted in its factory yellow finish that same year. The car was acquired by the current owner—President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ford Motor Company Jim Farley—on BaT in June 2024. The frieze depicts the procession of Dionysus, the god of wine: the bacchantes (also known as maenads) are portrayed as dancers, but also as ferocious hunters with slaughtered kid goats on their shoulders or holding a sword and the innards of an animal; young satyrs with pointed ears play the double flute, while another performs a sacrifice of wine (libation) in acrobatic style, squirting wine behind him from a drinking horn into a patera (shallow bowl). At the centre of the composition, there is a woman with an old Silenus who holds a torch, indicating that she is an initiate, a mortal woman who, through a nocturnal ritual, is about to be initiated into the mysteries of Dionysus, the god who dies and is reborn and who promises the same destiny to his followers. So, had a FWP today. I have been going through the process of getting dental implants on 2 of my teeth - one in front and one in the back. It has been over 6 months since this all started, and today was "New Teeth" day - all of the steps had been completed, and the implants were ready at the office. I was SO excited! Got to the office, had the bottom one installed, the dentist took out the one for my front tooth.... ....and there was something wrong with it. It has to be sent back and a new one made. Y'all - I haven't cried once about my cancer diagnosis, but I was >>>this close Just wanted to vent. Brandon Johnson today on his administration's transparency regarding his Reparations Task Force: =============== As long as we're allowed to talk about stupid Dem leaders, I can't fathom the proposed NYC pied-a-terre tax. You TAX someone for NOT using city services. I mean, they don't use the fire department because you're not there being set aflame in the subway, you don't use the police department because you're not there being shot on the street, you don't use the garbage collection because you're not there throwing anything away, you're not walking on the sidewalks or strolling in the park or visiting the library or museum... Then, how does the city determine pied-a-terre status? Do you self-report the amount of time you spend in your apartment? (Hallllooooo, Quality Learing Center folks!) Is there a specific amount of time you have to spend at your residence -- total, consecutive? I thought this was wildly imaginative silliness, but I found out the concept has been around for a while. The upgrades this time were the fresh roasted and peeled green chiles, jalapenos, tomatoes. "Perfesser" You wondered why a Catholic church would have bear spray handy. Cabrini is just a few blocks away from an Omaha city park where a local charity group picks up homeless people to take them to an overnight shelter, then brings them back to the park in the morning. My bookstore was located just three blocks away. Several mornings I had to call the police to evict homeless people, drunks, and worse from my front door before I could open. Because Cabrini is a church, I imagine those kinds of individuals would be very aggressive in demanding handouts, etc. FWIW, all four of my kids attended grade school at Cabrini and went to mass there every morning.

Bikes back in the late sixty's were the way to get around for kids. Their were no bike lanes and we didn't wear helmets, no knee pads or elbow pads. We did have a few acres of woods near the neighborhood where we made our own bike trails. Next to the woods was our school playground where we could hang out especially in the summer. Good times.

273 The creepiest cinema villain, bar none, was John Hurt's Caligula from the 1970s BBC series "I Claudius". Just listening to him, you realize that he is stark raving mad - and he has the power of life and death over everyone in the empire.
Posted by: Nemo at April 16, 2026 11:26 PM (4RPgu) That was the role that told me what an incredibly great actor John Hurt was. Several actors have played Caligula, but Hurt did it so well that it’s impossible to imagine anyone else playing the role. And he had the unique ability to be incredibly charming at the same time he was being evil. You wonder if the real Caligula was like that. Posted by: Tom Servo at April 16, 2026 11:46 PM (yGQJD) 297
Never has knowledge been more accessible—we all carry pocket computers. And yet, people know nothing.
I think it was Clifford Stoll in Silicon Snake Oil that pointed out there's a the huge difference between information, knowledge, and wisdom. And that if having lots of information was powerful, librarians would rule the world. And sympathies, Teresa! When you've got no control over the Big Things, then the Little Things become hugely important and that's okay. And it's frustrating not to have your teeth working properly! Good to see you doing an occasional ONT scampydog. Thank you for content. Spent a few busy days getting our camper ready for the road. We reserved a 'full hook-up' (not as much fun as it sounds it means electric/water/sewer hook-ups) spot at Prado Regional park, about 25 miles east of here. It was a very nice park, peaceful, and the sites weren't on top of each other. More like a park rather than a parking lot. In a few months it will be brutally hot there. It was close enough to home we didn't stay in the camper overnight. Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK) at April 16, 2026 11:48 PM (QGaXH) 300

Hey Sca-dog and fellow hordlings! Your foreign Correspondent in Southeast Asia here - still hotter-n'-hell here (but not August in Houston hot), regarding the following:
- Tablets and QR codes at restaurants are a soulless blight on the restaurant experience. Just take my order. I don’t need a narrated scroll, a screen hunt, and a read-back. Sometimes tech makes things worse - this is one of those times. I find this infuriating as it is clear that the restaurant is simply outsourcing their wait staff duties to me. My response when I see this is: "how much are you going to pay me for doing your job?" And I am not paraphrasing. I have asked that a number of times now. When I get a quizzical look I explain: they are forcing me to do their job, which is not what you expect when you go to a restaurant. I expect the restaurant to serve me. That includes going over the menu, telling me specials and taking my order. Don't get me started on lost revenue opportunities that the place loses on upsells or drink orders etc. It's Restaurant 101 - fer chrissakes! Freaking credit cards, ugh! Took me several years to pay off the debt that XH2 had racked up on our joint accounts. Thank God it was only 5 digits.. coulda been so much worse. Worth every penny to be rid of him.
Now? I have 2 major credit cards. One, with a very low limit (at my request) for small things like annual renewals of a few subscription services, so I don't even carry it with me. The other, with a more "normal" limit, for emergencies-- but I keep it active with gasoline purchases and hubby's cigs. Neither have an annual fee. Both are paid in full when statements arrive. I do have a Homedespot card & generally use it only for *major* purchases and again, pay within the time limit for their interest-free deal. They send me promo offers all the time, wanting me to rack that baby up! I might need to buy some flowers and potting soil, just to keep it active; been a while since I used it. I have a Costco branded CITI card that pays 5% on Costco gas, 4% on other at-the-pump gas, 3% on restaurant & hotel, 2% on other Costco, and 1% on everything else, no annual fee. Used it for anything that couldn't be paid with a $10 bill.
One day the paper bill (I like paper!) came in the same day I got an offer from Fidelity, 2% on everything. I liked at my "everything else" purchases and got it. No annual fee on it either. So far this year, I've spent almost $1K at Amazon (I live in the boonies) so that $20 into my brokerage account at Fidelity where it goes into.a MMF that's paying ~ 3.7%. 90+% of my discretionary spending is through those cards, hell, I even charged my homeowners & auto insurance bills (>$2K). Big turn of events last night. Basiji commander Mohammad Shirmohammadian was stabbed 14 times and killed by, supposedly, masked Iranians near Pardis, Tehran.
Havent heard of whether either of the 2 resistance forces against the regime, the Immortal Guard and Homeland Defenders Organization, were the attackers, but this could be a major sign in an uprising brewing among the Iranian people (which is arguably the most important step towards actual regime change) Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at April 17, 2026 01:33 AM (faK3k) 380
Going to Islamabad is not 1/1,000th as disastrous an idea as any imaginable "deal" with the regime in Tehran. Just assuming every bit of every peace offensive that breaks out about every 3 days is lame kabuki for the dim world audience (including its share within our borders).
Looks like the Lebanon "ceasefire" might have failed before the digital ink was dry, though not sure about exact timing. Rocket attack (surprise!) on Israel, some serious injured, appears to be after formal beginning of pause. US policy towards Lebanon, and obscure thing barely even noticed by anyone for many years, is almost comically absurd. All based on an absurd premise that there is a Lebanese state with the ability or will to neuter the Hezbollah state-within-a-state. Haven't checked but I can only imagine how Arabs interpret this nonsense. They know the fantasy on which it's all based, and assume we do too - so US policy *MUST BE SOME 10-DIMENSIONAL TRICKERY TO HARM THE ARAB WORLD AND BABY BUNNIES!!!!!*. 10+ years ago met one of the two Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force officers seconded to Annapolis at the time (a very prestigious posting for obvious reasons). He'd been XO of a Japanese submarine.
I thought we were going to stay in touch but lost contact and never heard from him. I assume his US posting meant he'd be CO of a sub on his return, and was destined for higher things after. Very interesting and impressive guy. Was a docent at a military museum and we talked a lot about WWII in the Pacific. his day (April 16) in 1948, the British withdrew from Safed & 100s of Arabs immediately attacked the city’s ancient Jewish community.
The Arab commander cabled the Arab Liberation Army: “Our morale is very high, the young people are enthusiastic, we’re going to massacre them." The outnumbered Jews chose to stay and fight rather than flee; and, along with a small garrison of Haganah fighters, they managed to repel the attack. The Arab assault was part of the “civil war” portion of the 1948 War that was launched the moment the UN voted to partition Mandate Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state on November 29, 1947. From day one, the Arabs rejected any Jewish state on any part of the Land. Something different.
There's a big Quick Stop just outside my neighborhood. It's always been operated by a middle Easterner. Never ate at the food bar that offered traditional fare. Well, the other day, make or ptomaine it was the choice. WHAT? It's changed, the big colorful menu is in Spanish but I don't know any of the words. I try to talk to the lady but she speaks no English, zip. This is interesting. They are Cubans. There are no Cubans in this town. There are now Cubans in this state but I'm here in this colorful, clean Cuban food bar. Not only that I ask the guy behind me to explain 'sunny side up' to the lady but he doesn't understand the jargon. He's Cuban! We work it out and I get two eggs sunny side up and two strips of bacon with different but good type of toast at a reasonable price. I'll be back. Cubans? Implant time, but since its an upper in the back they have to do what they call a sinus lift to make room for the added bone and implant or else the implant would be into the sinus cavity. It all sounds horrifying.

I got off on the tangent of prolific actors who seemed to be in everything, at least as far as classic TV goes. Jessica Walter had 160+ credits, and Richard Anderson had 180+ or so. That's impressive, but would you believe Ed Asner had over 400? And probably one of the most prolific was someone whose name wouldn't ring a bell, but you'd recognize him instantly: William Schallert. He was truly in everything, 400+ credits. He was "old reliable", almost a human prop, who played character roles. He never really stood out, but he could if called upon.
