Wednesday Night ONT - April 15, 2026 [TRex]

20260414-Bamberg_Altes_Rathaus.jpg

Good evening Horde. The time has come for mid-week shenanigans.

Welcome to the Wednesday night ONT which means another edition of random overnight fun and games. Pull up a chair and sit a spell. Good will offerings of amusing puns are happily accepted. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors. This is a Tucker, Candace and Megyn free zone. Please.

[Top photo: Bamberg Altes Rathhaus]

From Fodor's:

At Bamberg's historic core, the Altes Rathaus is tucked snugly on a small island in the Regnitz. To the west of the river is the so-called Bishops' Town; to the east, Burghers' Town. The citizens of Bamberg built this extravagantly decorated building on an artificial island when the bishop of Bamberg refused to give the city the land for a town hall. Industrious citizens quickly realized that the river was a tax haven as it wasn't claimed by anyone as property.

Matthew Chapter 9

9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.

11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Quote Origin: Don't Tax You. Don't Tax Me. Tax That Fellow Behind the Tree

[H]umorous verses advocating that taxes be levied on someone "behind the tree" began to appear by the 1930s. These early instances were anonymous.

In March 1932 "Collier's Weekly" ran an article titled "Tax Everyone But Me" which included an instance starting with "Congress! Congress! Don't tax me" instead of the sing-song: "Don't tax you. Don't tax me."

"At the end of the year, and again at the opening of 1932, the hotel rooms and lobbies of Washington were crowded and swarming with citizens who had come to play, in paraphrased adult form, an old game of their childhood:

Congress! Congress! Don't tax me,
Tax that fellow behind the tree."

In September 1973 the "National Tax Journal" published an article that included the verse credited to Long...:

'RUSSELL B. LONG, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, has recently been credited with a little doggerel describing "Most people['s]...philosophy about taxes":

Don't tax you,
Don't tax me,
Tax that fellow behind the tree.'"

35 The Pittsburgh police scanner keeps giving.

Only three entries, but they're good ones!

South Side. 20th South 10th Street - Holiday Inn. Caller said that two guests are arguing in the parking lot. The argument has apparently now escalated to the point that they are trying to hit each other with their cars.

If I were the dispatcher, I'd be confused.

Are they trying to hit each others' cars with their cars? You'd think they'd both succeed immediately, unless they're really bad drivers.

Trying to hit each other, but not in their cars? So they're having a good old-fashioned honorable duel? Taking turns getting out of their cars and letting the other guy take a run at them?

Shadyside. Denniston St. Caller requesting help with their finger stuck in a sweeper.

When the cop gets there, they find out the sweeper's name is Tiffani. She's totally a janitor and not a prostitute, though.

Oakland. Craft Ave. Caller said that someone is outside of their apartment playing a loud trombone. Caller does not like this.

It's much easier to serenade your lover with a guitar or a saxophone, but I guess you dance with the one that brung ya.

69 New Mexico taxes surprised me. I had to look up what the basis was. Apparently, they are even more progressive than NY or California, and the really sock it to the top earners in the state...as well as corporations.

In short, the are chasing away their top contributors, and chasing way their top job providers. And, I'm willing to bet that a majority of the population in that state is pissed off about that, but your usual handful of politicians with no economic chops got into the legislature and dumped their Utopian nonsense on everyone else.

The flight itself was okay, in a "Greyhound bus at 30000 feet" way. Which isn't that much different than the bigs, nowadays.

But they were so understaffed that we were delayed 90 minutes while they found a maintenance guy..... to fix a latch on one of the overhead compartments. At least they didn't just duct-tape it shut.

Luke the physician was a disciple and scribe of Paul, and wrote the Book of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles.

It is fair to believe so, since we do not know precisely, but Eusebius said that John the Apostle did not write the last two letters nor the Book of Revelation, and we do know that John the Apostle died in AD 98 in Ephesus, which is in Turkey, so not Patmos. Summer's not here yet, but you can see it from here. The snow-free spot in the yard here at Old People Warehouse is getting bigger every day, and the park benches on my daily walk have *almost* emerged from the snow enough to sit on them.

I'm ready.

In other good news, it's now physically possible for me to pee my pants again. The "indwelling" catheter is out.

I've got one-time-use catheters that I can use if the flow isn't going (which so far it's not. Supposedly that will improve).

Even so, I only have a hose jammed up my sensitive regions for a few minutes at a time a few times a day, rather than having it in there all the time, so that's a big win.

These are also a lot smaller than the Foley, so they're a lot more comfortable to put in and take out.

Sorry if that's TMI. I'm just happy I no longer have to have a bag of pee strapped to my leg all the time.

213 Since college & flying any airline back & forth from college (sometimes with 2 stops),I had a brief decade with SW for a cheap and direct flight to see my family from Orlando.

We are Delta people. Normal flights. Used to fly monthly for decades.

Returning from London/Paris in 1999, our sons first time overseas, we flew to Atlanta. Where I now try to avoid at all costs. Customs was horrific, hot, crowded, slow & I was jet lagged. I almost laughed hysterically at a large black woman next to me using her giant bazooms cleavage as a cell phone holder. Got the Look of Warning from my husband.

We get on the flight to Orlando & someone screwed up the gate thing and put it in forward vs reverse. It hit the plane door with a thud and dented it to the point they could not close the door.

The moans and lamentations of the people started when they said we'd have to get off the plane while they found another. I was more tired than anyone on board.

I said, loudly, "He can't close the door! He can't fly with the plane with the door open!!!" People knew they had a grouchy and crazy woman on board and shut up. The spare plane was old and held together with duct tape, but we made it home.

214 Gospel writers: Chances are one or more of the Gospels was actually inscribed by disciples of the person to whom the Gospel is attributed. Gospel "according to…"

I expect Luke wrote his own, though.

Also, of course, the synoptic gospels each derive somewhat from a common source, either Matthew, or the suspected lost "Q" gospel.

Also also, according to textual criticism the last part of Mark appears to have been lost and some material added (in some versions) to replace the ending. https://w.wiki/LGjG

Considering the various motives, styles, and times of the different Gospels, I've always thought it amazing — and convincing — how much the character of Jesus shone through. You'd be hard-pressed to find four witnesses to an accident who could have such consistency.

I believe one must read the various books as they were presented. For instance, the Song of Songs is poetry, and while it often likens itself to the relationship of God for His people, it is also a fairly exotic love poem. How does one read poetry "literally?"

But yes, history is history, and there is no reason whatsoever to doubt that the historical books, including the Gospels, are not completely truthful.

That said, God gave us everything in the Bible that we need for salvation, and nothing extra, because we are a confused lot and easily led. A great many people read a lot into and out of the Bible that simply isn't there, which is their right of course, but it tends to pervert the message. That's how we end up with oddball things like Liberation Theology and Prosperity Gospel, pure nonsense, both of them.

228 Mark, who wrote that lovely gospel, was actually named John Mark, and served mostly as Peter's secretary, since Peter was a smelly old fisherman and wasn't the greatest writer. He wrote down what Peter related to him, and of course, he was around for some it too. So, there were plenty of Johns around to write things down. Surnames would have helped, but they really weren't in vogue unless you were a Roman Senator or something.

229 I thought Rauchbier was “excellent” too - in execution, in terms of quality yes, but still reminded me of a campfire, or maybe some kind of leftover Insurance scam. It’s just weird or definitely an acquired taste

Posted by: scampydog at April 15, 2026 11:41 PM (41CYW)

No. We fly to NOLA to avoid Atlanta now to see my mother. Direct flight. Never early. I despise early flights.

When we moved back here from FL we sold our cars and flew once the movers came. Then put the house on the market.

Had spent the night in the Orlando airport hotel and had giant bags of precious things I didn't trust with the movers. Staggered on board a direct flight.

My last thought, on the dark tarmac, was that I won't be in this airport again for awhile. Then we both passed out cold from fatigue and stress.

First class. The flight attendent thought we were doing drugs we were so out of it. First time to not remember the take off vs being alert. The flight attendent poked me and stood back to ask what I wanted for breakfast. I may have looked dead. We ate and went back to sleep.

I wish I could sleep like this on every flight but don't. Sort of better in the fold out beds, but I am still on guard for perverts and don't sleep deeply.

246 That Texas Ranger statue is not “controversial” and not new. It is titled “one riot, one ranger” and it was commissioned in 1961, and was placed in a position of prominence in Dallas Love Field Air Terminal. It stood there for decades, until a new woke local administration decided it was “uncomfortable” with a statue complimentary to law enforcement.

It was taken down about the time of Covid and disappeared, although it was believed that some private benefactor was safeguarding it.
Everyone who knew of that statue and lamented its disappearance was overjoyed to see Trump up again at Ranger Stadium, the perfect place for it!

Not a real argument. His statement is clearly meant for us to read, and as such, is Divinely inspired. Real people wrote the books of the Bible, not automatons that just wrote words God told them to. That isn't inspiration, that's just a steno copying things.

Why do you suppose Jesus came to us as a human being, incarnated? Not simply because our sins could be overcome only by one who could take them on (a human), but also because only Moses managed to look at God and live. God comes to us as the creatures He created, knowing who and what we are, and what we can and cannot understand.

Same with the Bible authors. Real human beings, telling us Divine things in human language. Inspiration is Divine mystery.

Paul is admitting his inability to find a scriptural basis for the point he is making. Doesn't mean it wasn't divinely inspired. He was writing for a specific audience and that writing has been accepted as the inspired Word of God. Good enough for me..

You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and I won't have it!! Is that clear?! You think you've merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance!

The old LIB civilization(s) which thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels.

It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU WILL ATONE! Am I getting through to you?

LET'S GO BRANDON! End LIB Civilization.
End their Strategic Insanity Forever...

298 Don't you think it's better living in the country?

G'nite, y'all.

I've heard their work. (I think) At a blog in the early 2's a fellow from Florida posted songs from this band, not addresses (things were different) I downloaded the music directly from the site.
Been trying to find the band ever since.
They should have made it.

299 >The best one was when Jesus showed up and threw Trump into Hell. That's classic. I'd bet the pope liked that one.

The Catholic Church has long encouraged migration which has lead to many deaths and the notion that you can just move somewhere else and mess up their place rather than stay put and clean your mess in your place. No! Clean up your own shit hole. Help? Sure we'll give it too you but you need to clean up your mess. This starts with not bringing in socialist or communist governments.

301 Southern Band

The waves are settling down and the sun has sunk into the sand and the only calm the city gives is living in these ocean sounds not as bad as it could be not as good as it could be you’ll find out what you miss most when you’re out on the West Coast

It’s been a long fall,
Yes it’s gonna be a long fall
Yes it’s gonna be a long fall,

I’m not sure why I’m still here when I left my life seemed so clear Now my dreams are heavy thing muddied by reality cause I can’t find good days and no game days on Saturdays. Yes the only tailgates I see now are loading sacks of crack cocaine. For a long haul up the West Coast to a long fall, to a long fall

My girl knew the price of fame I lost her when she changed her name. Her face used to feel so soft till her agents doctor pulled it off.
She got a nose and cheek bones and a bit part on a TV show. But broken down to a broken place (not sure I heard that correctly)
When the one you love’s got a strangers face

It’s a long fall, I’ll be ready for a long fall
Little more rain and I don’t feel the pain

302 Guitar solo

When I thought I’d head on back I saw a black haired girl on the concrete path She flung her hair back with her hands between the setting sun and the copper sand and in the fading light I could barely see a spot of a wink? and she gave it to me

She said you look like someone I know I said I do but I can’t love you so
In this long fall I lost out on the West Coast. It’s a long fall. No, no, no one gets on in
It’s a long fall. No way, but I know Jane would say long fall. It’s a long fall

>You may have been blind, but she's got your number, buddy.

She should be busy this time of year.

If you're a horn dog, you should find out what she's pulling in.

Hopefully once the fags all pass on, we can have a real Church again with real men leading it.
