Rory McIlroy wins Masters, first to repeat since Tiger Woods

Rory McIlroy had to wait more than a decade to win the Masters and complete the career Grand Slam.
He only had to wait a year to take home a second green jacket.
After squandering a six-stroke lead in Saturday's third round, McIlroy briefly lost the lead again Sunday before taking control on the second nine at Augusta National to become the first back-to-back Masters champion since Tiger Woods in 2001-02 and the fourth overall (Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo).

Quite an accomplishment. Though I was disappointed that the presentation of the coveted green jacket came from the chairman of Augusta National instead of a previous champion. Or even better - one of the other 3 who were repeat champions. When I win back to back Masters, I will demand my 2nd jacket be presented by Jack, Nick, Tiger, or Rory!

Alex Ovechkin leaves door open on return to Capitals next season amid NHL retirement rumors

Alex Ovechkin was the man of the hour as the Washington Capitals defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 3-0 in the final home game of the 2025-26 NHL season. As the Caps stayed alive in the playoff race, the Russian star kept every option on the table with a comment on his future.

If Capitals fans hoped to see more signs that Ovi may return next season, there was another after the final horn went off. As Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and the Penguins waited on the ice to shake hands with Ovechkin after the game, the Russian star waved them off.
During his postgame press conference, Ovechkin made that clear with a concise statement. “[I waved them off] because I haven’t decided yet. Thanks to them for waiting out there,” Ovechkin, who also thanked Crosby after a potential final game, told reporters after the 3-0 win.
If Ovechkin ends up retiring after the 2025-26 NHL season, several players on the Penguins may regret they couldn’t share one last moment with Ovechkin on an NHL rink. However, Ovechkin revealed—to no one’s surprise—that he met privately with Crosby and Malkin after the game.

The Caps are still in the hunt for a playoff berth. They need to win their last game on Tuesday and get help from Carolina and Montreal, the final 2 opponents for the Flyers.

US appeals court declares 158-year-old home distilling ban unconstitutional

A U.S. appeals court on Friday declared unconstitutional a nearly 158-year-old federal ban on home distilling, calling it an unnecessary and improper means for Congress to exercise its power to tax.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of ‌Appeals in New Orleans ruled in favor of the nonprofit Hobby Distillers Association and four of its 1,300 members.
They argued that people should be free to distill spirits at home, whether as a hobby or for personal consumption including, in one instance, to create an apple-pie-vodka recipe.

Andrew ⁠Grossman, who argued the nonprofit's appeal, called the decision "an important victory for individual liberty" that lets the plaintiffs "pursue their passion to distill fine beverages in their homes."
"I look forward ⁠to sampling their output," he said.

“We should no longer be surprised,” James Clark of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis told KMOV. “The rate of violence that is happening in the St. Louis metropolitan area should be alarming to all of us.”
Clark told KMOV outreach efforts such as violence de-escalation programs are making progress, but added that cultural attitudes toward violence are shifting.
“Crime and violence is becoming a more and more accepted and expected culture,” he told KMOV. “How do we begin to look at what we’re currently doing that is getting results? How do we begin to come up with new adaptations to what we’re doing?”

A Little Different: Why This Fashion Girl Is All In on Colored Sinks, Tubs & Fixtures

Normally we’re talking runway trends, how to mix prints like a pro, or the perfect denim jacket for spring. But today we’re doing something a little different—and I’m owning it right up front.
Before I ever styled a look book, I staged houses for real estate as a job while in college. My sole purpose was to make strangers fall in love with a space in 60 seconds flat. I learned fast that color is the ultimate mood-setter, whether it’s a bold lip or statement wallpaper. It has been almost 5 years since we built this house and I am ready to make a few changes. The trend that has me obsessed? Colored sinks, tubs, toilets, and faucets. Designers are playing with soft pastels, candy-bright pops, and earthy tones that feel fresh, fun, and surprisingly sophisticated. I’m here for every single second of it.

After a long run of all-white everything, 2026 is embracing personality, warmth, and heritage. I love a clean spa moment, but just like my house, it starts feeling a bit… anonymous. Designers are calling it a “heritage revival” or “nostalgic comfort”—think dopamine décor with a grounded, biophilic twist. Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer (a soft, weightless off-white), is a super neutral backdrop for these colorful statements. If you prefer a warmer, more yellow undertone neutral, Greek Villa by Sherwin Williams is tried and true.

The colored-fixture comeback is the perfect way to add “look-at-me” energy without committing to a full overhaul. A single jade green vanity sink or a blush-pink clawfoot tub instantly makes the room feel curated and collected.

Everything else (tiles, walls, hardware) should play support. PS. Don’t be afraid to add a matching toilet , a toilet is a lot easier to change than tile, so what’s the big deal?

2. Balance with neutrals and texture. Pair your colored fixture with warm whites, greige, or natural wood. Matte black or brushed brass/gold hardware looks killer against pastels. Add texture—linen towels, woven baskets, stone countertops—to keep it grounded.

3. Echo the color subtly elsewhere. Pull the hue into a shower curtain, art, or even grout.

4. Scale matters. In small baths, a colored pedestal sink or wall-mount faucet keeps things airy. In larger spaces, go for a freestanding colored tub as the showstopper.

If you’ve been stuck in neutral-land or just craving a little more you in your home, this is your sign. Colored fixtures are the easiest way to inject personality without starting over.

You have to burn fuel of some kind to distill alcohol, so it's really uneconomic, unless your fuel is "free", like firewood, and then that's labor-intensive.

I had the world's best G&T at a bar in Rome called The Gin Corner. Was there for a scientific conference in 2017, saw the sign, and said "I gotta drink there!"

Bartender spoke excellent English, and we talked about Italian gin and American gin: east coast and west coast. Extra points because they had Bluecoat from Philadelphia: I was on the tasting panel that created it.

The G&T: A stemmed balloon glass, a big ice cube (melts slowly); three to five juniper berries, crushed gently with the flat of your knife; the juice from a wedge of lime (do not drop the lime in: it adds bitterness), Italian gin, and excellent tonic.

Yay! I am getting ready to do a few big and a few little things here. Master bath is getting a medium overhaul, I am changing the sink and lighting in the powder room, the kitchen cabinets are getting repainted and, fingers crossed, replacing all the flooring with reclaimed hardwood. Which I said we should do when we built, but was I listened to? No. Of course not. So here we are. 😂

Friend of mine renovated her home and wanted to keep some vintage elements, like the pink and blue tiles in one bathroom. She could not find those colors anymore, and the contractor told her yeah, you just can't find 'em, you'd have to get custom tiles and still, good luck getting the colors right.

It amazed me. You'd think you could get any color of paint, tile, fabric -- but some of those colors are acknowledged to be beautiful, but unattainable.

Some of those things you can find at thrift/resale shops. Helped a friend score vintage tiles at a thrift store. She needed a few to make repairs in an older house. You can't just walk into Home Depot for those anymore.

I'd suggest it morally and legally be applied to any taxpayer who filed returns that included W-2 income for any of the last 40 years. "Our" government has ably demonstrated that it has been fiscally *corrupt* and used OUR taxes to enrich themselves. Tax payers who worked two jobs to make ends meet or who worked one in an awful field should be absolved if their tax payment records aren't pristine.

Agree with you on that. My Alberta house here does have a pedestal sink, but it's because the bathroom is tiny, and the sink is on the same wall as the heating radiator, so enclosing that is a "no way." But I took the pedestal out, because it does not support the sink, and just makes it harder to mop the floor.

125 I did a bit of a deep dive on home distillation a few years back, there’s a pretty good website forum (of course) on this, with a bunch of caveats, mostly about how this is totally illegal under federal law, etc. There are apparently a lot of people who are unconcerned.

It’s interesting to note that every country on the planet outlaws home distillation (without paying a prohibitive tax, permitting, etc) with the exception of New Zealand. The legality there is said to have been the result of a legislative error, not for any reasons of common sense or sanity.

In the US there are a patchwork of different laws at the state and even county level. In some states it is perfectly legal to own a Still, but you cannot use it, however. Some Counties prohibit possession, which is probably why Andy and Barney went after those spinster sisters in Mayberry.

Finally, the legislation that decriminalized home brewing beer and winemaking in the 1970s was said to have included home distillation as well, but this was somehow deleted from the final bill through an error in transcription and did not make it into law.

129 Well, Piper, that was a different fashion report!

After decades of neglect and decay, we're finally rehabbing the old concrete house my grandfather built about a hundred years ago. Sturdy structure, but needs a lot of work.

The old kitchen sink is green, the very color of that bathroom sink above. Nice wide basin with two drainboards. Old and heavy iron.

The faucet set had rotted away, so, decades ago, I went looking for a replacement. Went into Huffman's plumbing and described what I was looking for to a young fellow, who looked at me like I was from an alternate dimension. An older employee was no more helpful.

So, they wheeled (not literally) old man Huffman himself out to listen to the crazy customer, and he said, "Oh, fourteen inch center-to-center with a forty-five degree offset base." Yes! I exclaimed, that's it! Hopes rose.

Shook his head and said, "I haven't seen one of those in years! (Shoulders droop.)

Fortunately, now, in this age of World Wide Webbing, Daughter has found a supplier of just what we need. And she's even found kitchen appliances to match the color.

Should be good for another hundred years…😏

To save $ in a guest bathroom in the basement, we painted the existing cabinets a shiny dark teal color with framed mirror, fake marble counter was installed a new shower. Dark drawer pulls.Wood floor.

Kitchen is neutral with dark cherry cabinets,& hand made cream tiles backsplash, under the wooden hood.Unique granite counters.French vibe.LOVE

Bathrooms have dark faucets, etc, oiled bronze or something & square tub and sinks in the main bathroom.

I admire you but don't think I could deal with colored sinks,etc, after seeing an aunt's pink or aqua bathrooms,from 60's. I'd rather jazz up half bath with wall paper & mirror if I had my way (he hates wallpaper).

Nah. My mother's green velvet couch was an extra bed at times (70's). Brothers played in there with railroads and similar. Danced in there with one of those long stereo/ turntable pieces of furniture with the ability to tape yourself. Huge thing. We also had a famiy room for tv. Nothing was sacred in that house. We didn't wipe mud or eat pizza on the velvet couch, but it was not a museum.

With antiques in my LR, nothing is sacred there, either for my grands who grew up all over this house. The cream couch looks antique but we bought it off the floor of a store in FL and it has Sunbrella fabric that I can wipe (and have) chocolate off of. It looks twee, I'll admit that. But it ain't. Antique chairs from my grandmother recovered and have handled the little monkeys. Antique and beat up oak coffee table from Belgium is not precious. Antique rosewood piano has taken a beating fron 3 generations.

It's stupid to have stuff and not use it.

If you understand the role of your pastor, that's a decent standpoint to understanding the role of a bishop. The Pope is also a bishop, of Rome.
It is nice when you go from parish to parish and everyone more-or-less agrees on the same doctrines, same Bible, same hymnal.
The notion is that some entity has to herd all these cats. The question being whether we want the bishops to agree on a single person as their leader, or - as in Orthodoxy - if we are all okay with several nations having their own patriarchs (and then what happens if the patriarchs disagree?).
This is not a comment to pick a side, just to explain the stakes.

I communicate regularly with a retired professor who lives outside of Budapest. I was at the Mariners - Astros game today and when I saw Orban lost, I immediately wondered what she thought. She is an Orban supporter, primarily because as a kid she grew up in Communism and has the bad stories to share. I got home from the afternoon game and saw she emailed me.
She is distraught with the result, said the new guy Magyar is not a conservative, not as strong on borders (Hungary is next to Russia) and said now that Orban is gone, he was the only EU vote to keep them from sending billions to Ukraine, and generally being the stupid shitheads the EU seems to have as leaders. She is convinced this vote will cause that war to grow, Hungary will get involved and EU leaders to go even more leftist.

Nah. We are DONE. It took off and on for over 2yrs as this place is big. It had a great yard and great bones but was hideous inside when we bought it in 2015. Repainted outside and fixed porch railing while the deck was ripped off the back and replaced. I lived in a warzone for months.

I called it 40 Shades of Mustard. Every room a different shade of dingy yellow. Sometimes the wrong type of paint as HS kids did it (we were told). With beige almost shag carpet. Chy knee woman who apparently had a wee oil fire in the kitchen as the pine floor and ceiling had burnt places near the oven. It did not make me weep like our first house in 1985, but it came close before paint, etc. Strange men in the house for months.

Worth it! All I ever dreamed of, and our second house we built in FL was perfection. If I could have I would have moved it here but I couldn't.

Have been lucky. We might divorce if I whipped out wallpaper as he hates it. About the only thing he has ever said no to.

Current house had lots of dark paneling in the back rooms, but we didn't remove it because it covered up cinderblock walls... We simply painted the paneling. Nice texture! Really brightened up the dark spaces.

This. We had a living room that wasn't used much (outside of decorating for Christmas), but it was never off limits. No couch was ever covered with plastic. But we were expected to not drop food on the carpet and to clean it up immediately if we did. And on furniture.

Same goes in my house today. (Except maybe the carpet bit. Honestly, I'm just planning to replace it all at some point, and tell the guy tearing out the old stuff, "Yeah, it was a design they called 'calico' back in the day.")

I moved into a house built in 1959, with a bathroom with a brownish pink (sorta like "flesh" in the paint-by-numbers crafts) toilet, sink and bathtub.
We lasted about 5 years, and out it came. Well, not the tub, it was cast iron and In place, like that orange and pink pictured above. Along with replacing the toilet and sink with white, the way G-d intended, we replaced the pink tile with ivory, removed the sliding glass doors on the tub, removed the swag chain globes that gave practically no light, AAAND ripped off the metallic wallpaper featuring French poodles and Eiffel Towers.
There's fashion and there's style. Fashion is tiring, which is why it's replaced regularly. That bathroom was fashion.

The answer is "yes" - have done. My father used to have a small winemaking operation he ran in eastern Canada using California grapes purchased by a small syndicate of friends - My parents owned vacation/retirement property there (they were US citizens - but really loved Atlantic Canada). Anyway - after a time he had one of the more mechanical guys fabricate a still which he used to first make grappa - then, later distilling other things. His "moonshine" wasn't bad. After he passed away and my sister and I inherited all the property I went up to sell off all the equipment to the rest of the syndicate but not before donning some coveralls and fermenting and distilling one last batch of poteen with the boys. That last batch was, to quote to The Great Escape, "*cough cough* smooth." Alas, I miss those days

I moved into a house built in 1959, with a bathroom with a brownish pink (sorta like "flesh" in the paint-by-numbers crafts) toilet, sink and bathtub.
We lasted about 5 years, and out it came. Well, not the tub, it was cast iron and In place, like that orange and pink pictured above. Along with replacing the toilet and sink with white, the way G-d intended, we replaced the pink tile with ivory, removed the sliding glass doors on the tub, removed the swag chain globes that gave practically no light, AAAND ripped off the metallic wallpaper featuring French poodles and Eiffel Towers.
There's fashion and there's style. Fashion is tiring, which is why it's replaced regularly. That bathroom was fashion.

As it was there was one bedroom painted pea green and I spent time in there and insisted on it being painted before I slept. I could not. So son and husband painted it the first week.

This afternoon I discovered just how my AI slop is infecting everything, particularly Facebook. I was searching for some Artemis images, straight from Google image search. I noticed a lot of obviously fake shit showed up.

It was AI-slop generated for "engagement farming". Facebook profits from this. Make some silly photo related to some current events, and get clicks, which generates ad revenue.

It's getting ridiculous. This is not "misinformation", it's just pure clickbait shit.

We have a loft upstairs and I put picture shelves up all over the back wall for family pictures. I can add or move things around, different frame styles and heights, you get the idea. When the girls are wanting to see if anyone notices they move frames from tallest to shortest, instead of varying heights, or they sneak in a stick figure drawing.

When we were house hunting in 2015 we came across a house that had to have mooselimb owners/builders. A bidet.Which was not that alarming but unusual. BUT!

The thing I laughed at with our realtor was this:
The bathroom had a window to the tub/shower. And the bed in the master bedroom faced it. (We are supposed to say, "principal" bathrooms now vs master. I guess cause of slaves or DEI or #MeToo. Unsure.

To get up there, where the toilet was as well, was about 3 tiled steps that would be wonky in the dark o' night. We'd have had issues with that first before the strip/shower show.

I laughed at the thought of the shower show for my husband waiting in bed like a shiekh. Super weird.

One of the most horrific bathroom designs I ever saw was the this open space and open window bathroom design. The damned toilet was basically sitting out in the open, and there were big windows all around.

Imagine a two-car garage area with a sink against one wall, a shower over there, and a bathtub scattered around, and then a toilet sort of in the middle of it. YUGE, wide space all around, and then long windows all along the walls, opening the whole space up to the outside.

I was looking at some floor plan schematics of the Orion capsule. The shitter was in the floor. Imagine you're standing on a floor. There's a door you open, like a trap door. That opens up a little closet, lying sideways below floor level.

Remember, it's zero-g. You open that door, "lie down" "horizontally" and sit in that little space in the floor. That was the toilet space.

Piper, I loved the green tub+wallpaper above (even though I mostly despite wallpaper). Had some nice masculine energy. I mostly like the house I'm in right now, lots of wood trim and several areas it's 'wainscotting' with calming dark woods (or dark-stained woods). Lots of white, which is bland, but the one room that's not, the previous owner did... alternating blue and yellow walls. For some reason. Haven't gotten around to repainting it, it's position last on my home improvement list. Most of the floors are either tile or "wood veneer", the only one with carpet is the den. I have no idea what might be under it, other than they used GOOD treated wood - no termites ever on this place and it's older than I am.

We cracked up. Our realtor knew after the first day that I was a nutcase and she liked me a lot.

We'd go look at a house. I'd see 3 playgrounds next to our backyard of no trees and nope! I think she thought briefly that I hated children (quite the opposite).

I explained to her the privacy we had in FL, etc and she understood I was not totally mean. We found a house almost as good without children surrounding me and a mountain view out my windows.

I love our grands, just not other people's grands every single day in my backyard.

You mean like water damage? Well the teak itself is pretty water and rot resistant, but you might end up being a wee bit of a slave to it. Theoretically it would have to be sealed every few months with teak oil if you want to keep its color and water resistance. It would need to be installed over a good backer board along with a water proofing membrane, and it needs to have airflow behind it because its not mildew proof. Its a bit complex, but it can be done. The fixtures have the escutcheons to help with not having water get behind it, but you would use a clear silicone to seal up the holes where the pipes come out as a fail safe.

It tends to pulls things away, and down, and out of the air. Which is very important, but taken for granted. This is why space toilets are so difficult.

Here's a little video showing what a stream of water looks it in zero-g. That should give you a sense of what peeing would be like. You've got to have air flow to suck that away into some container.

334 Thanks Piper, just sent that pic of the tub with overhead shower to Wifey for remodeling idea. The color palette of the tiles might not work but it shows we have something to work with.

Basically, the master bath needs complete rework, while everything is sort of still in service. Giant Jacuzzi tub phase one - rework as a tub/shower. Then gut / redo existing shower. then the rest.

Then pic shows that a big ass tub can also be a shower. Taste in color may differ. But it has been done.

I don't think that is true. They banter at each other in their podcasts, but have never suggested they are related. Goldie immigrated to Canada with her parents. Tousi immigrated to UK with his Mom. Dad still in Tehran.

Yeah, the amenities are basic and functional. You want fancy? Get a freaking hotel room! You want gourmet meals? Go to a freaking restaurant!

I didn't make the freeloader comfortable: he got the couch. (and it's not good for sleeping, imo) Too bad. Meals were mostly sandwiches; fried eggs & spam in the morning. He bought milk and cereal for snacks. Blecch!

349 There was a building (too big to be called a house) for sale locally. Basically a big high bay garage with living quarters attached. The sort of place a manly man could appreciate.

One of the interior pictures showed the master bedroom. The sink, shower and toilet for the master bath were lined up along one wall of the bedroom. Who needs silly things like bathroom walls?

Uncle had some land adjacent to my parents. He was a dive master, rigger, A&P mechanic, among other things, those were his hobbies. Build a FAA certified grass strip there and a hangar for his Beaver. A couple of lean to's for shops... and something which might resemble living quarters.

354 I'm not a very good Protestant, and don't hate Catholics. The Pope would be my biggest hurdle to Catholicism, at least the last few Popes. Mostly I don't understand the role of the Pope.

Outside of being the Head of the church, the Pope is there to confuse the faithful on the supposed application of Catholic doctrine to real world issues by being consistently stupid about it. Dioceses that are growing pay scant attention to our two last Pope's because they are just not very impressive people in general.

355 Our guest bedroom is for my parents and in-laws. They are all older people. I try to make sure they are comfortable and well fed when they visit. Some of them were better parents than others. They will all be welcome and fed in my house. I'll end up changing some diapers. That is life.
