I'm going to check in after a movie but I was wondering. Nearly 10 years ago, I had to go to the ER. Something was inflamed - not appendix - I was in terrible pain - my worst ever and they operated immediately. Whatever it was popped out of nowhere.

So, for space trips or trips to Antarctica, I wonder if people get preventative surgeries. Whatever I had, do people or agencies operate to prevent something where surgery would be impossible?

There was a documentary about an incredibly long desert race and a guy died suddenly with an inflamed whatever...

Question for the older Morons...have any of you had a film develop after cataract surgery that has to be removed to be able to see better? Jules just saw the eye surgeon today for such a thing.

Which meant a trip to DeKalb, where there is a Hy-Vee grocery store. We are like kids in a candy store, there' so much variety compared to Dixon. Any others here who love this chain? I think they are limited to the Midwest.

59 Proud that Saturday morning cartoons with my brother made me who I am today. We watched in my grandmother's LR (we had an apt in her large house for 8yrs). Bro and I were alone for hours. Then had great waffles and bacon from my grandmother and life was very good. My parents did whatever parents do on Saturday mornings, and my grandmother and aunt said all they heard was us laughing for hours.

One thing we figured out was if you hang your head upside down off a chair your chin becomes your nose as you talked and we thought this was hysterical.We then started lying on the floor when relatives visited and laughing. They thought we were very happy children (altho a bit odd).

I think the kid pooped and Dad found out when they stopped the bike.

I was not as cruel as the wife whose husband had the snip. Altho I did spend a lot of time laugh/crying for the first hour or so seeing his red bikini briefs. He may kill me someday for writing this.

Never been to a Hy-Vee but, I drove an hour to a Publix today. The floors were clean, fully stocked shelves with lots of choices, the clerks were personable and helpful and the carts actually tracked where YOU wanted them to go. The produce was even fresh!! Completely unlike the Kroger's, Food Citys and Sav-alots here in town.

I damn near thought I was hallucinating. Worth the drive.

85 Had a productive day. Sunny, 56 degrees. T-shirt weather, very little wind. Burned of some dry grass in two places, keeping the pressurized water fire extinguisher close at hand. Soaked down the ashes once the flames went out. Place looks a wee bit tidier. Fired up two wintered-over vehicles, the golf cart and my '88 Chevy pickup. Both started easily, but the pickup needed a flat tire aired up.

There can be a membrane that forms behind the lens.
Lasers are your friends here.
I had mine removed by the doctor in the office.
Painless, quick and easy. He also tracked down some floaters and zapped them.

Yes. No big deal, laser and quick and a bit of dry eye for a day. Never bothered my vision as the eye doc saw it and blasted the laser. I think it's scar tissue or something and common.

I only had my weird cateracts removed because I was tired of contacts and glasses. They never grew and were seen when I was 40yrs old. Because I am special, unique and have weird stuff happen in the 0.02%.

Dog story.

So, on my typical walk, I've met a young lady and her new dog (Millie) a few times now. At first, Millie was kind of scared of me, the young lady owner was "Well, I only adopted her a couple of days ago from the shelter."

The next time, Millie was like "Okay, you can pet me. I think. Maybe. Not sure I like this."

Today, I met them again, and Millie was like "OMG it's that guy who pets me! Pet me more!" And the young lady and I formally introduced each other.

Made my day.

PS: No, romance is not in the offing. That ship sank some time ago. Just nice to meet nice people and nice dogs.

Hold wing vertical against plate with one finger, using fork push all meat down off bone to plate, eat meat with fork, then flick bone away with fork like it is a paper football.

I'm in Central Iowa, home of Hy-Vee. They're OK, and they do have big, clean stores with a lot of stuff, but more expensive than other, smaller local stores. One thing I like is that the liquor department doesn't ask for a birth date or ID if you're an old fart.
The closest one to me has a walk-in cigar humidor in a corner of the liquor department. I'm not a big cigar guy, but that seems kind of cool for a grocery store. Also, in Iowa you can buy hard liquor at the grocery store at 8:00 AM on Sunday morning, which is not the case in some other states where I've lived.

Nice guy and there was a brief time in the ritual courtship where I was required to "walk with him off the home football field." He held my hand and, well, I am glad that's all because of sweat (his, not mine). This concludes most of my HS dating history because I was a weirdo.

My first date with him, almost 16yrs, and I doubt anyone has a similar story: my brother, on our long drivway as the guy drove his Charger away, was on all fours barking at us from a ditch. A real conversation starter.

'S been a long day. Woke up early thanks to a certain black cat and his hobby of leaping over and kicking me long before dawn. Then at noon, we were off to a free luncheon/lecture at my former employer, visits to which I refer to as "smuggling myself back into the Russian sector." Food was good -- Mexican, with soft tortillas, chicken or pork or veggie (or all three if you liked), salsa and chips.

The speaker was a "brain institute" professor of psych -- they actually do something like science in that department; there's no counseling concentration. She told us (in a voice much like late actress Jean Arthur's) that estrogen treatments had been found to increase dementia, but only under certain conditions, and that the male brain and the female brain have the same concentration of estrogen in them. Huh.

Do you know I was out of eggs a few weeks ago so instead of egg white I had the bright idea to adhere my sesame seeds to a loaf with milk. If I told you the loaf had about 8% of the seeds left after it baked and was moderately handled........

So, milk may kind of look a little like watered down Elmer's but don't let that fool you like it fooled me...

Sounds like you did. You just got home a bit ago IIRC. It's nice to travel but always esp nice to get back home after a bit.

That's one thing I miss a lot about not farming any more...burning off a grassy or weedy area and then the clean result when it greens up. We had some areas that had prairie seeds in the soil's seedbank and sometimes there would be a surprise bloom of a bunch of them.

Spent M-Th supporting breast surgeon. Her patients all have breast cancer. One had a recurrence of her cancer and she’s 19weeks pregnant with an IVF baby. Heartbreaking.

What do you find on your beach? Shells, beach glass or stones? I like them all and want to go to a beach glass beach someday. Collected shells and some glass on the Atlantic in FL (we were on a barrier island about 45min from the Cape) for 20yrs.

Now in the mountains and I still bring home rocks. I have always been this way. As a kid, fossils and arrowheads from our farm.

Good fried chicken is very good indeed. Popeyes is not bad, for fast-food chicken. We have a local chain in the Calgary area called Chicken On The Way. Been in business since 1958. They chip their own potatoes for fries, too.

Never been to a Hy-Vee but, I drove an hour to a Publix today. The floors were clean, fully stocked shelves with lots of choices, the clerks were personable and helpful and the carts actually tracked where YOU wanted them to go. The produce was even fresh!! Completely unlike the Kroger's, Food Citys and Sav-alots here in town.

I damn near thought I was hallucinating. Worth the drive.

Mid-1980's we go to visit my parents at Christmas in the small town twenty or so miles south of Melbourne, Fl that they retired to. 5 PM my mom needs something from Publix. We live in Los Angeles where 5 PM in the grocery store is like Black Friday at Walmart. We get to Publix, store is practically empty, clean, neat, soft elevator music in the background. We get our item, go to the front to pay. Not one but two clerks waiting by their cash registers to check us out......

Different world......

I have never been to a Hy-Vee. Hope to make it to a Buc-ees this year.

Was at my usual cigar store today and a guy said we might get a sonic boom out of the re-entry. Nah - as far as I can tell. Back in the day, of much more flight activity and looser rules, sonic booms were not uncommon (when Miramar was a Navy base).

I also didn't see the spectacular Space-X booster plume from Vandenberg earlier this week. Recall seeing some good ones waaaay back, as a kid.

Someone asked the Flight Director what were those plumes visible during the parachute drop on the IR camera view.

It was indeed RCS thrusters. Even when the chutes are open, they're still using those to control the attitude of the spacecraft. He said they want to make sure it hits the water just so.

One hopes they're genuine, but hard to say.

More reliable are the clips of drones (presumably Israeli) hitting checkpoints in a few major cities - though those are currently not appearing, probably due to the "ceasefire".
