A Buffalo-area man ends his fight to reclaim Albert, his 12-foot alligator seized in 2024 ![]() An upstate New York man who had his alligator seized after sharing a home for more than three decades has given up his court fight to get back the reptile he affectionately named Albert. Tony Cavallaro sued the state Department of Environmental Conservation after officers met him with a warrant in the driveway of his home in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg in March 2024. The officers sedated the 12-foot (3.6-meter), 750-pound (340-kilogram) alligator and drove him away in a van. Albert, who lived in an indoor swimming pool, eventually ended up in a sanctuary in Texas. Cavallaro sued over the state’s denial of a license to keep Albert. But the 66-year-old said Thursday that the legal action had consumed his life for two years. With no quick end in sight, he decided last month that he couldn’t deal with the exhausting battle anymore. *** Cavallaro said he has not seen Albert since the animal was taken away, though he has seen photographs. “I’m not at peace. I don’t think I ever will be,” he said. “I’m very angry about the whole thing.”Check out the whole thing and let us know if you think this is overreach or justified. ----- What's the most amount of layers you've ever worn on your upper body? Now I'm not THAT stupid. The whachamjiggie that measures the fuel in the tank was borked. Thought I had fuel, turns out I didn't.
Posted by: Robert at April 09, 2026 10:22 PM (htWC/) Back in the day, what could cause that was putting a non-vented fuel cap on a tank that required vented cap. Fuel pump suction would eventually create a partial vacuum in the tank, and the bottom would cave in, pushing up the float of the sending unit, while at the same time lifting the pickup pipe out of the pool of remaining fuel. Here I sit, sucking on a bourbon and Coke Zero. Today was my first lawn mowing of the year. I have about a quarter acre of grass, and I have a riding mower. The first Spring mowing is always a chore.
I knew it was going to be a long afternoon when I hopped on the mower and the key didn't fit. I had grabbed a mailbox key out of the bowl by mistake. It was getting towards the end of the day, and I was finishing up the back yard, when the goats tried to escape. My neighbors have some miniature horses and a few goats. I had agreed to let them graze in the back half of my lot (the horses and goats, not the neighbors) and I knew the horses had popped a few of the ties on the chainlink fence that borders my lawn. It turned out to be more than a few. Suddenly, there was enough slack in the fence that the excited goats could crawl under it. I got them stopped and parked the mower against the fence while I fetched the package of fence ties that had been delivered last week. I got finished just before sundown. So, how was your day? I watched a video on the VASCO project - it aims to look at older astronomical observations and find stars on old photos that we can't see any more.
It has found about 800 of them. The most obvious explanation that those where photographic errors seem unlikely for most of them since the plates don't have defects and sometimes the missing stars are on multiple plates. And other arguments for reasons we just can't see the stars now - dust, occulting objects, even Dyson spheres seem unlikely. It looks like the most accepted argument is that there is some other still death pattern that leaves a black hole without a supernova. But...that's not a very good answer for a bunch of reasons not the least of which that it means we don't understand stellar physics. Posted by: 18-1 at April 09, 2026 10:38 PM (sKqQm) 142

It's an economic plus. The fallacy can only be supported by ignoring the better uses that money could be put to. I'm doing research on how one would go about making a career out of exposing fraud. Whig and others pointed to qui tam actions under the False Claims Act. As is generally the case with lawsuits, you are advised to be represented by an attorney. So, does that mean that the best way to pursue that angle would be by getting a J.D., or would a lawyer still also need someone else to represent him for it to not be pro se? If the latter, what skillset (ideally a single convenient degree program) would be best for rooting out and documenting fraud for qui tam suits? I have a B.A. in Mathematics and am more than willing to go back to school, as I love learning new things.
I have a strong sense of justice and can be quite stubborn, even disagreeable in the face of hostility, when I believe I'm in the right. I went through a rough patch and have no retirement savings, but I have time to build up a new career that is not too physically punishing and can be performed nearly indefinitely. For reference, I was leaning toward Business Information Systems, although Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are also on the list, and giving crooks their comeuppance would be satisfying. 278 Cicero, that marina doesn't give slips away, but at least your roads up there (OC) are generally perfect. As they used to be down here, for most of my life.
--------- The roads here get continuously worse. One thing CA doesn't spend money on is road maintenance. Instead, we're paying perpetually unemployed layabouts to stay home and "care" for their parents. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at April 10, 2026 12:25 AM (JkO4W) 347

Thanks for the ONT.
Passing through. Everyone have a great day tomorrow. Just watched 'Bone Tomahawk' - 2015 - US - a western - horror. It was mostly a western. Cowboys vs Indian cannibals. Fantastic movie, great characters - I really liked it even though it wasn't as messed up as I was hoping or led to believe. Bedtime. After I get the dog and cat off the bed. They liked the movie too. Here's an 11 second video of my 14 year old dog Ralphy. This was one week after I thought he'd have to be put to sleep after falling off my bed. If your going to keep a chunk of rebar in your car you should also have a bag of cement. Also known as a 'reason' to have a big chunk of rebar under the seat. Like a bat without a ball or mitt can be considered a deadly weapon.

Got the lawn mowed today, and then had the most awful sinus & asthma attack. I love the smell of cut grass, but it sure plugs me up to breathe it. Ugh, had to do some other stuff before getting the dust & grassy bits washed off. Had to use my inhaler an extra time today. Whew!
Posted by: JQ at April 10, 2026 12:16 AM (rdVOm) Didn't you just do that a few days ago? My slaves showed up the other day to cut mine for some reason. Start of the season I guess, but nothing has even grown yet. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at April 10, 2026 12:45 AM (snZF9) 369

I have some old brass knuckles hat I found somewhere, I didn’t even by them they just ended up in my posession, I don’t even remember how.
My grandson was poking around in my truck (like 12 year olds do) and he was suitably impressed whrr when he found I’d stuck them under my front street. Although if melee weapon were actually required by circumstances, I think I’d just go with the all steel claw hammer. Everybody runs away from a madman with a hammer.
