The Ocho Cafe

dodgeballthebadguys.jpg

Flying the Columban CriCri jet, an experimental aircraft even tinier than the Acrostar from Octopussy. (Hey that's almost The Ocho but with pussy.)

Remote-control dirt buggy racing.

The Trampoline Event, baby goat division. And this is from 12 years ago so it's not AI! (There are so many fake "cute animals on trampolines" videos I don't even click on them.)

Cat surfing.

World's longest alpine rollercoaster. Sitting is a sport at The Ocho, you know.

Racing down an Alp at 70mph on a skateboard.

Out-of-control kayaking down a drainage ditch.

I've linked this before, but: paragliding with your best friend.

The "Jetman Flying Suit" -- it's an engine and short stubby wings you wear on your back.

Obligatory Armored MMA fight: two-handed axes. One fighter enters the ring playing his two-handed ax like a guitar. The opponent puts his axe on his shoulder and fires it like a bazooka. I don't know why AMMA isn't on network TV every Sunday.

Another wingsuit glide through a canyon.

Is astronauting a sport? Well either way, Artemis II is scheduled to splash down in the ocean near San Diego at 8:07pm.

20 I remember when eclipse aviation had a tiny biz jet with small engines, not as small as the one in this video, but very small for even a Part 23. So light they had videos/photos of a couple guys holding the engine up in their hands I think. Well that didn't work out so well, couldn't reach performance targets and they had to do some tweaks. Late stage changes didn't work out so spiffy for them financially. Small weight, Part 23 biz jet business is brutal.

Honda Jet also has some adorably smol engines. But they also have a ton of money to throw at their pet project.

Artemis II tracker:
https://is.gd/6Nv0zQ

rotate and zoom in from geocentric view to see the trajectory. Note the slingshot around the Moon was designed to change the return plane, cocking so it was coming in South, then turned up NW over Australia to line with the Pacific just right.

All that was done with TLI and minor course correction burns. That's some fancy orbital mechanics. The "no math" rule does not serve you well here.

Man, that looked really tame. All arm strength, not effort to power through the guard. I did SCA stuff, and the weapons were *technically* padded, but we had guys with glaives who would knock you clean off your feet, even if you got your shield in position. I don't know how they fight today, it's been 25 years, but damn we beat the hell out of each other, and I've got the x-rays to prove it.

After 20 years, the owies tend to come back and when I went into the sports medicine clinic, the doc was like, "So, looking at your elbow, did you do SCA in college?"
"How'd you know?"

She's only 14 years older than me, so I remember going to her events and of course the smell and stink of horses. Not impressed.

When Reeves was injured, she said that once you turn 40, the game changes completely. When you're a teen, you're made of rubber, heal quickly, and you can bounce back from really bad stuff. But the older you get, the more that stuff hurts.

At the same time, my 83 year old father bought a new motorbike last year and likes to putter around town in it, visiting his wife in the nursing home. I guess when you get that old, what the hell.

The renaming is part of an initiative to remove the names of political figures from Navy vessels, with the ship instead honoring a World War II Navy Chief Petty Officer and Medal of Honor recipient

I saw a post about how the flat earth and the moon truthers are basically people who either are immune to reason, or shitposters seeking attention. You can ask them what they would accept as proof, give it to them, and then they come up with a new requirement, which you meet, and then there's another requirement, and the game is just to make you waste time arguing with an idiot who has nothing else about them to draw attention.

But by being flat earth or moon truth, maybe someone will waste their time with you for a while.

NASA wants to get the crew out while floating, then fly them back to the recovery ship. The Murtha has some "well deck" I think I saw, and they will float the Orion right into that and then lift it aboard.

Nobody is out yet, but a recovery team guy has entered the capsule.

Protocol will be to carry then out onto the raft, which they haven't set up yet.

415 >>> So, I'll just repeat my prognostication.... mankind's biggest challenge will be figuring out how to go pee or poop in zero G. Nothing moves forward, not to the moon, not to Mars until that's figured out.

We're not even close. And you'd think taking a space dump would be... sorta' important for a multi-day/week/month/year trip.

Sad.

My feeling has always been that the chief hurdle with time travel is that at some point in the past there will not be toilet paper and I'm not sure if multi cellular organisms can exist without toilet paper to wipe their various digestive system holes. I strongly feel it is probably impossible.

419 I was doing 70 on a skateboard back in 82. Got a ticket from a Charleston SC cop going 68+ on the Cooper River bridge at 2am , the bars closed & there was nothing else to do. Still have the ticket.
