Good morning kids. This morning it's all about miracles and wonders. on the last episode of the podcast linked here and in the sidebar
also available on the popular platforms listed at the bottom of the post I poo-pooed the Artemis moon mission but colleague and cob CBD observed how the mission was yet another confirmation of, despite all our many and serious problems, the greatness of this nation in being able to send a sophisticated piece of technology and an incredibly skilled and brave crew on a half million mile journey to the moon and return safely please God. it was plain for all the world to see. while I do question the necessity of the government to be funding and involved in space technology and exploration, the Artemis mission and most especially the free market enterprises such as SpaceX are engaging in the necessary task of giving America the edge in securing the ultimate high ground for our national security and future prosperity. So consider me duly chastised in this regard. I hope that despite it being yet another DC Bureaucracy, perhaps Nasa and its partners in the private sector and the War Dept. can overcome the typical pitfalls of bureaucracy and make great strides in the aforementioned. Maybe I'm being more than a bit Pollyannaish, but still, here we are 53 years after the last lunar mission and making history again.

As awe-inspiring as this is, for my money there is nothing more inspiring and incredible as the bravery and daring of our men and women in uniform.

U.S. special operations forces rescued the second crew member from a downed F-15E fighter jet in Iran after a “heavy firefight,” successfully extracting both airmen and all rescue personnel from the country, according to multiple reports.
U.S. officials told Axios and Fox News the high-risk combat search-and-rescue mission recovered the weapon systems officer more than a day after the aircraft was shot down, concluding a complex operation that unfolded behind enemy lines. The weapon systems officer had evaded capture after ejecting alongside the pilot, using Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training to move away from the wreckage and take cover on elevated terrain while activating an emergency beacon, according to reporting cited by Fox News.

“The CIA executed a deception campaign to confuse the Iranians, who were desperately hunting for our airman. On Saturday morning, we achieved our primary objective by finding and providing confirmation that one of America’s best and bravest was alive and concealed in a mountain crevice, still invisible to the enemy but not to the CIA,” Ratcliffe said. Well, I imagine if John Brennan was still running Langley, he'd have guided the IRGC right to the downed airmen. The same Brennan who helped concoct the deception campaign known as the Russian collusion hoax.

hopefully now we can finish the job or at long last the Persian people can rise up and finish off the Mullahs.

That said to play devil's advocate do we really want to arm a potential insurgent force that could carry out terroristic acts in the same vein as the Basque separatists of Eta or the Ira?
then again the Kurds are not fanatical islamists. but if they can destabilize and counter the IRGC and mullahs maybe it's missed opportunity.

17 Sorry to say I disagree with your NASA assesment. NASA lead the way to DEI decades ago and it is so entrenched now it can never be removed.

NASA is collection of massively corrupt, over-grown sandboxes that was doing great pulling the wool over everyone's eyes until Musk found a way to make money in space.

NASA needs to go back to the labs and get the hell out of design and execution in Manned Space.

That is what the last five years plus has taught anyone who cares enough to pay attention.

100 Kharg Island is one of the largest oil refineries and terminals Iran has. Deep water for large tankers. If the US controls Kharg, the US controls the oil processed and shipped for there. A huge amount of oil that Iran exports moves through Kharg.

The EU, China and Russia depend on Kharg. The US doesn't.

That makes it ripe for exploitation.

Iran has been threatening to release the real stuff, to really fight back, for more than 4 weeks.

And all their doing is firing a handful of missiles per night at Saudi Arabia and other nearby countries.

They had the golden opportunity to get an American POW to torture live on the Internet. He was injured and alone in their country for 2 days. They lost 1500 men trying to get to him while the US built a makeshift airbase 20 minutes from an Iranian city of 2.2 million people.

All while massive stockpiles of their ballistics weapons capabilities have been destroyed in giant balls of fire for weeks.

I...don't think there's much to escalate with anymore. They would have done it weeks ago. All they have left is terror against their own people and LEGO AI slop videos.

I did some very basic research on Kharg island. It wouldn't be too hard to take but grok - yeah GIGO - said it's vulnerable to missiles and drone attacks for awhile. Even if the power plants are destroyed, all these have independent power supplies.

Even now, I have to imagine targeting and communications are an issue. Much more if President Trump is bluffing.

Oh grok also said Iran exports 2.2 million barrels of oil a day. Opec is near capacity but at these prices I'm sure all oil producing countries could and would be anxious to cash in. It may take a little while. Gas prices were $5.02 under Biden.

It would take 67 Senators, but the GOP could finally lay down a judgement, a constitutional judgement, that Donald J. Trump was no longer allowed in politics for the rest of his lift.

They only got 57 votes. Of the 7 Republicans who voted for conviction, only 3 are left in the Senate.

They are doing what they can. They are using some missile warheads that deploy/scatter small entry vehicles with HE warheads. Nearly impossible to target and destroy all the small bombs before they impact. Current US/Israeli anti-missile systems have very limited capability to intercept and destroy warhead before it scatters the small boys. The only good aspect is the small boys can't do a whole lot of damage. But they can play havoc with parked aircraft (one of them may have taken out that E-3C at a Saudi airbase) and randomly hit schools, apartment buildings, and other non-hardened mil and civvy stuff. China likely has similar cluster IRBM warheads aimed at Guam and other US Pacific bases.

He later resigned and retired, but wasn't disciplined.

The "Hello World" photo is actually of the Earth's dark side. The glow in the lower right corner is the obscured Sun while you can see both auroras. The ISO setting on the 35mm Nikon camera was 51,200.
