Top Story

  • A critical security vulnerability has been discovered in the leaked version of Claude Code. (Adversa)

If you've used Claude Code, you've noticed that it loves running shell commands to examine your codebase, rather than, say, reading it. Or having simple fixed-function code built into the software to do it on your computer.

And it also loves to ask you for permission to run those shell commands.

The vulnerability comes into play when a very long string of shell commands are run together. For the first fifty commands it will check - manually if needed, and in its history of permitted and denied commands if it's in there already.

And on the fifty-first command, it rests. And executes it regardless.

So if someone triggers a long string of commands and the first fifty are innocuous, after that they can take full control of your computer - because Claude Code runs on your computer, and just communicates with the Claude AI service as needed.

The particularly lovely thing here is that Anthropic already fixed this.

But both versions are present inside Claude Code and it using the broken one.

  • The cult of vibe coding is insane. (Bram Cohen)

Claude Code is the preeminent vibe coding tool.

Guess how it was coded? Guess how that horrible bug stayed in, even after it was fixed.

    You'll never guess.

    Oh, you guessed.

21 PBS interviewed Rafael Grossi the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency on 3/18/26.

Grossi Is a cagey interviewee and he doesn't give up much when asked questions that could easily be politically spun. By this I mean spun in a direction that paints President Trump as a war happy maniac who started bombing Iran on false pretenses that they were close to having nuclear weapons.

With that out of the way, my ear heard Grossi outlining that the Iranians were systematically blocking the IAEA inspections at locations where it was highly suspected they were enriching uranium to military levels. The subtext is the Iranians were hell-bent to build nuclear weapons and were very close to accomplishing that though he wouldn't say with any certainty how close.

22 Typically not here at this hour, but I just wanted to give an update.

The deer stopped by for corn when I was putting out the bird feeders. One was watching carefully as I was taking the little old dog out to burn a patch of grass. Fortunately she doesn't see well and spent the time sniffing dead leaves.

After I escorted the little dog back in, the other two wandered over from the neighboring yard.

Naturally, she's quite willing to pay him part of it. The problem is that she's on a limited income so we are basically going to have to bully her to accept us cutting the man a check. My wife is trying to see if she can find the neighbor's phone number to set things up with him.

Two professors from my old department, a married couple, left in about 2012 to take positions at a university in Perth. I looked it up. Perth has a similar climate to LA or San Diego, for the same reasons -- western edge of a continent, being around the same latitude south as LA is north, etc. If it weren't so isolated, seems to me it would be a very popular place to live as far as climate.

Rafael Grossi (director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency) says pretty much close to that:

I think the point that Mr. Witkoff is making, which is correct, is that, of course, from the moment you argue that a research reactor--for which you have a lot of fuel for many years even--necessitates, needs you to continue enriching uranium at 20%, then it is understandable that this is problematic for the United States in the negotiation.

58 If you think about it, Western Europe is right to be horrified by our war in Iran. They are on a path to soon be either putting down violent Muhammadan riots over mass deportation, or brutalizing their own natives for daring to protest the erasure of their national character, one or the other. So, when we profess concern for Iran's dissidents and disgust with the regime's brutality, Europeans may hear that as a threat to invade them next.

I'm not saying whether it's rational or whether we would, let alone whether we should or even could; those are separate questions. I'm just saying that there could be explicable emotional reasoning behind our erstwhile allies' hissy fit.

And on the seventh day, ... He rested.

78 73 mornin yall. NBC "news" says that "Targeting civilian infrastructure could be considered a war crime".
Posted by: fd at April 07, 2026 06:54 AM (vFG9F)

Are they citing "International Law"?

My favorite part of the video is that the band had their own professional clapper:

(I guess their lead singer didn't have anything else to do, with someone else singing lead on that song.)

80 "Targeting civilian infrastructure could be considered a war crime."

Coming up next, Maxine Waters will start screaming "WE GON' IMPEACH FOTY-SEBEN!"

81 Few things scare me, tech-wise, as much as the idea of Universal Basic Compute. Not only do they want to institute a new fiat currency, they want that currency to be something of limited or nonexistent actual value, under the domain of their systems, and for its existence to supplant the individual's own personal access to a personal computer. It's just evil all-around.

82 Now we find out if Trump and Hegseth really do have an endgame.

Kind of comical that the Iranians were the ones to say that negotiations were a stupid waste of time.

83 Mind you... had Biden started targeting Russian elementary with guided munitions, they'd have hailed Dark Brandon as the stern but sensual skipper of our mighty ship of state, delivering peace through strength. Time Magazine would run a cover of him standing astride the Urals with reflections of dead, Putin-faced toddlers in his aviators.

84 Few things scare me, tech-wise, as much as the idea of Universal Basic Compute. I have a candidate, though.

How about that "Universal Church"?
I would not, starting from scratch and 'on the face of it,'
want to allow people who believed in that into the country.

86 The seasons bring change
Bright thoughts bring new hope
Our lives we arrange
As we learn to cope
Fortune smiles and sings
Songs of bells and rings
Sit back and laugh for awhile
