As we round the moon, the crew will be the farthest away from earth men have ever traveled. (They always have to work some kind of a "FIRST!" into these missions, much like commenters.)

They could have resolved that by just saying "port-starboard-fore-aft"

However, it is NASA so even putting a dab of paint on would require three months of debate, changes in every mission booklet, and a separate declaration of climate and environmental neutrality matched with the addition of paint documentation in the MSDS and another waiver from EPA.

The 60's were a simpler time, they would notice that something was carcinogenic so they would make sure to verbally instruct the assembly team to wash their hands after using it and call it good.

Did you see Iran’s response to the offer? They said they’d consider it if we paid them a billion dollars in reparations for the damage we did. Not kidding.

Trump knew their response would be something idiotic like that, this is why he’s free to make any wild sounding negotiation he thinks sounds good. He gets the PR and moral boost from having made a generous offer, and it’s cost free because the Iranians are incapable of negotiation.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. But I would not be in favor of calling it something else that it isn't, like petunia. Those are different things. The inability to tell one from the other is not to be celebrated.

I mean, changing the meanings of words is not exactly something that I am generally in favor of. I like them the way they are. They represent a real thing, usually. But I'm picky. Decimate is just an example of how people mis used a word and we have re defined it to mean the popular, albeit misunderstood, use.

That it was originally done by a unit in your own army to their own fellows rather than done by your army to the enemy makes this a metaphorical application.
