The Morning Rant: Iran Is Not Of The West

punk-monkey.jpg

The gulf between East and West is massive, and the best way to see it is to negotiate. Westerners, animated by 2,500 years of Western culture -- based on empiricism and truth and morality -- make implicit assumptions about the motives of the people across the table: that they are motivated by the same goals...an honest and fair agreement that recognizes the needs of both parties.

And those are laughable from the perspective of the rest of the world. Lying, cheating, outright stealing is part of the game, and they simply take advantage of the morality of Western culture to get what they want, and be damned with the other parties to the agreement.

Iran has never and will never negotiate in good faith. Their goals will never change, and until those goals are seen as 100% unobtainable, they will continue along the same path. And what are those goals? Regional hegemony. A nuclear arsenal. The destruction of Israel. The destruction of America. How can honest negotiation proceed if those goals are immutable?

Vance says "ceasefires are always messy" and U.S. "never indicated" Lebanon would be included in deal with Iran

The U.S. never promised Lebanon would be included in the ceasefire agreement, Vance said, despite Iran's claims it was, chalking that up to a "reasonable misunderstanding" between the parties.

Vance said he's not confident in how well Ghalibaf understands English, "because there are things that he said, frankly, that didn't make sense in the context of negotiations that we've had."

On Wednesday, the Iranian Parliament speaker claimed the U.S. is violating three parts of a ceasefire deal, citing continued fire in Lebanon, a drone allegedly entering Iranian airspace and a "denial of Iran's right to enrich uranium." Vance said that if Ghalibaf only has three points of disagreement, there must be quite a lot of agreement.

It's cute that the Vice President is scrambling around for excuses for the Iranian negotiator. He's a commercial pilot, and the universal language of flying is English. But even if his command of the language is shaky, the difference between including Lebanon and not including Lebanon in the ceasefire is clear and unambiguous.

What is actually going on is murky, but it is entirely possible that Ghalibaf does not have overall authority, or he is simply lying and Iran had no intention of opening Hormuz. Or both. And the IRGC and the Iranian government are not one and the same, unlike Western countries with militaries that answer to civilian leadership.

That is why the only clear path to a peaceful Iran is the total destruction of their military capacity, and the decapitation of the IRGC down to the squad level. Negotiation will never change the savage focus of the Mullahs and the IRGC, and to assume that there are "moderate" factions within Iran that can take control is just silly. Absent a successful revolution and the ascension of Pahlavi or another anti-Mullah figure to a position of authority, Iran will not change.

I'm no quite as gloomy as all this. I think young Iranians have had more than enough of this nonsense, possibly excepting regional hegemony. The mullahs can't fill the mosques, while the young'uns want to have a taste of the good life they see all the time on the Intertubes.

8 I don't disagree - and when Iran fails to live up to the ceasefire - we will have gleaned additional intelligence to go in and do more damage.

The best thing about this? It has shown the TDS cadre is completely nuts, essentially eliminating anyone to take anything they say about Iran seriously.

9 It's cute that the Vice President is scrambling around for excuses for the Iranian negotiator.

Reportedly, the Pakistanis screwed up (or altered) a proposal exchange so that the US accepted something which the Iranians never proposed. Reportedly.

It may be that the VP is looking for a way to not say that the Pakistanis are either incompetent (probably), dishonest (almost certainly), or both.

Could definitely be one of the motivations.

"Calming the markets" is one reasonable and sensible bit of speculation as well. Problem there is that the ceasefire's most serious element - opening the Strait essentially a pre-condition to everything else - has already shown that Iran is not engaging seriously. Even if they have stopped rocket fire towards Israel.

28 The most ineresting part of Iran claiming bombing Hezbollah is a violation of the ceasefire between the US/Israel and Iran is that Iran is implicitly admitting that Hezbollah is Iran.

No more evasion and lies. Hezbollah isn't a proxy of Iran, it's just another division of Iran's Islamist army.

Other than drinking( legally) there’s plenty of good life. It’s not USSR in 1952. Take a perusal on YouTube for “life on the street” videos of Iran. It’s a modern country with all the shit we have here. And the majority of women don’t wear hijabs despite what we’ve been led to believe.

I’m not supporting the mullahs or anything. But at the same time the image a lot of people have of Iran right now is really out of date.

If there a 25 year old I do t know if you’re going to risk your life or your economic future to revolt just so you can watch porn and drink without hiding it.

46 While the left is obsessed with finding new ways to hate Trump, and will only describe every event in Iran as a failure, the reality is much different.

Each of the on-again, off-again threats and retractions are carefully mapping out the real power in Iran.

1- Kill the leaders.
2- Find out who's willing to talk
3- force them to act and prove it
4- if no power/proof, return to 1

We have proven that the last 20 years of negotiations with Iran have not been with those actually with the power.

This is like a geopolitical version of Mel Gibson in "Payback."
We're going to keep killing until we get to the person who can make the decisions.

Unfortunately, the Russkis would still have to go through the countries where our troops are redeployed to get to old Europe, so it won't really change much. I suppose the Poles would like to have them, but the way things are going, they might be able to kick Russia's ass all by themselves.

48 You don't play at war. I would be unambiguously surprised and disappointed if Trump has made the mistake of doing so.

That said I have been clear all along that we must wait until ALL the smoke clears before knowing for sure what has happened. That timeframe is in May because it doesn't make sense to me that he would want this dragging on into the 250 which would become very subdued indeed.

If you watch Trump long enough you know that he plays possum and dead better than anyone you have ever seen. The moment you think they "got him" is when he suddenly teleports and reappears behind them like nothing happened. They got his ass over a loaded barrel on an uneven playing field with covid but this one is his doing.

That said I still question whether Trump got verifiable wind that Iran was planning something of an op with their friends in the Uniparty (as China did with covid) and he decided to fuck it and flip the game board over. That is still a possibility to me but we will really have to wait and see.

Threats and fear, mostly. Crews made up of young men from the Pacific Rim and some other 3rd world shit holes are afraid. They refuse to board, and operate ships in the area. No crew, no shipping.

Insurance premiums are through the roof. Regardless what Trump has promised, shipping companies aren't going to take the risk of losing a billion dollar ship.

The IRGC has boats, drones and anti-ship missiles staged in and around Hormuz. They've mined at least some of the area too. Again... risks the shipping companies won't take and neither will the crews.

The Hormuz Strait isn't "closed." It's a contested war zone that some shippers, crews and insurances companies would rather not deal with. Despite what Iran or the US says.

It may yet come to be that they are destroyed utterly. I suspect that there is a loss of control, and the "leaders" are Larping. If that is the case, it is probably likely that oil can move, although at risk initially. It will be a job of locating and destroying the local capability to launch. Trump doesn't want to be the one doing that. He wants Europe to take some viagra and get to work securing its own future. Europe doesn't want to do that and thinks that if it waits long enough the US will do it, because US politics will motivate Trump to act sooner or later. I think the broken ceasefire gives Trump more room to move militarily, but he'd rather not.

73 Knowing that the Iran regime isn't planning to abandon any of it's goals, I can only hope that this ceasefire was set up only to give the US a chance to replenish combat capability and move some additional units into or around the theater. Over one month of sustained combat ops puts a strain on aircraft, ships, and men, so a respite may have been needed. We don't have the resources we had during Vietnam when carriers spent about 30 days on the line before heading to the Philippines for massive drinking..... I mean, replenishment. I imagine the Air Force has similar strain generating missions for several weeks.

But if the administration is expecting the Iranians to negotiate then Heaven help us.

Bullshit.

People might press on details, and a few scattered shots will always be fired.

But from the beginning of the enlightenment until the last fifty years, ceasefires meant firing ceased, once everyone got the news.

Because that's how ceasefires work. It's right in the name.

It's not messy. It's simple and straightforward. Except if you're working with Muslims. And then it's meaningless, because they're pre-enlightenment.

167 The Iran situation reminds me of the Russo-Japanese War. The Japanese kicked the Ruskie's ass in the war, to the point where the rest of the world was stunned that an Asian country could so dominate a powerful western country.

But the Russkies were impossible to deal with in terms of negotiating a treaty. They kept insisting they won, and refused to give an inch. Eventually, they had no choice, but for a completely defeated enemy they were impossible to deal with.

This is why this reminds me of Iran. Plus, so long as Iran knows it can merely say the words "close the Strait" and the rest of the world runs to their fainting couches, it knows it will always have a very powerful bargaining chip.

Posted by: ballistic at April 09, 2026 11:33 AM (oqH4h)

Because Iran isn't controlling traffic in the strait with tactical or strategic forces.

Iran is making shipping companies (and their insurers) afraid to navigate the strait at all by threatening to damage them.

This they could do with single fishing boats, individuals with RPGs, kamikazi drones, et al.

Without seizing and holding both banks in perpetuity, we can not guarantee with 100% confidence that all of those threats are mitigated.

Because it's not a tactical problem - it's a mindset problem, and the Euros are pussies. We can solve tactical problems. We can't make men of the Euros.

180 I'm asking why we didn't do more to take out whatever resources Iran could possibly use to try to control traffic in the strait.

There appears to be no organized Iranian capability to control the strait. Roughly 10-12 ships a day have been going through with no incidents.

There is probably some *disorganized* capability that's completely divorced from any central command & control, and that's what everyone's scared of even though it hasn't actually shown up.

There's probably 100s of miles of Iranian coastline on the north of the Strait. Very difficult to weed out installations there capable of hitting sea traffic.

The Euros are the ones with a need for an open strait. Trump literally told them to take it last week. He does not want to be the one covering their ass in perpetuity. As of early 2026, the British Royal Navy operates approximately 62 to 63 commissioned ships in active service, though the number of actively deployed warships is significantly lower due to maintenance. For the same reason that roughly 65% of the United States aren't wackjob leftoid retards, but that 35% wants power and is willing to do anything to obtain it, just like the fascist Islamists in Iran, and we get ruled by a leftoid retard about half the time. Yeah, the whole of the history of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been a constant contest about-

Who can be the biggest islamic ratfucker responsible for killing Jews and Americans?

Anyone not on board with this radical agenda was not going to make it and not advance and probably was killed as a traitor.

So, probably it's going to require a lot more killing to plow through this pile of psychos until we're dealing with someone halfway sane and moral in the Western sense.

Diesel is the lifeblood of the economy. Literally nothing happens in our society without it. The higher it goes, the more expensive sh*t is going to cost.

I still don't know how and why diesel became so much more expensive than regular. They used to be on par with one another.

How many people were card-carrying communists in the USSR? It's only about 5% in the PRC. And how many are card-carrying fanatics even in places like Saudi Arabia? Shockingly few. Observe them once they escape Saudi airspace.

And look at our own ELECTED elites, refusing to do the will of 70-80% of Americans on issues like illegal migration and secure voting.

I know I've read up on how this happens, but I can't remember right now. But it's a universal thing, and "only" 35% Muslims in Iran with some handful being turbaned dictators seems nigh-insurmountable to me.

Iran has long-range missiles that can hit Israel. Those same missiles could be fired from any site in Iran, and hit a vessel in the Strait. Or miss it, and blow up harmlessly. But as long as they have the capability, insurers won't insure. Regime change is the only way to ensure the Strait reopens.
