Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Solid Jobs Report With A Delicious Bonus!Decrease regulation. Decrease the drain on the economy by parasitic government employees. Send a clear signal that American manufacturing is paramount. Decrease the barriers to domestic production. Begin to even the playing field with regard to cheap imports subsidized by foreign governments. These are obvious and rational policies that every American politician should embrace, yet one half of them champion exactly the opposite! Here is the March Bureau of Labor Statistics report. It's long and repetitive, but here are a couple of paragraphs that are nice to see.Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 178,000 in March, and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in health care, in construction, and in transportation and warehousing. Federal government employment continued to decline. One downside is the growth in healthcare, which is an unbelievably bloated and inefficient industry whose employment is driven by government regulation and interference. One look at most medical offices will prove that point. How many M.D.s compared to the number of clerks and billing "experts" and managers? Most of that overhead is forced by government fiat and the unbelievable complexity of health insurance company's systems. But here is the best part... Federal government employment continued to decline in March (-18,000). Since reaching a peak in October 2024, federal government employment is down by 355,000, or 11.8 percent. Federal employees on furlough during the partial government shutdown were counted as employed in the establishment survey because they worked or received (or will receive) pay for the pay period that included the 12th of the month. That is a lot of leeches that have been plucked off the body of the American economy. Not nearly enough, but it is a solid start, and we should applaud President Trump and his administration. Totally agree with you on bloated healthcare. I was able to run a solo office with one part time nurse, one full time receptionist, and a part time biller back in the 80’s. And that was sub specialty. 30 years later I had to have a full time medical assistant added, mainly due to both the required EMR work and the increased required BS of documenting silly requirements asking more and more questions of patients as well as prior authorizations, etc. And I spent about twice as much time trying to see same number of patients in primary care compared to my previous sub specialty practice. It’s Obscene.

How to fix health insurance:
Health insurance needs to be as good as cash, meaning you will never again hear "sorry your not in out net work". This will break up the small monopolies and keep prices down and improve availability. Medical Spending Accounts need to be unlimited. No max amount you can put in them. No rule that you have to spend all of it in a year. You can help your neighbor or people you don't even know instead of just your immediate family. It's for the greater good right? Medical menus: within reason you need to know the cost of a procedure ahead of time so you can make a decision. No more $400 band aids added to the bill. Tax credits for pro-bono work. Doctors and pharmacists can give services away for free to those in need. They would then get a break on their taxes. Remember how computerization of health records/billing was going to save large amounts of money and how that didn't happen? Its because the government reacted to a lightening of the bureaucratic load by multiplying the bureaucratic load. This is why there are about 20M healthcare workers but only 1M doctors and 4M nurses. And we get this sort of problem in every industry the government plays a major role Posted by: 18-1 at April 05, 2026 01:45 PM (sKqQm) 21

ADP, which runs its own independent employment survey, came in at 41,000 for March. ADP and NFP diverging by more than 4x is a significant indicator.
They used to call that anemic growth. Every time Biden was sub 200k it was a sure sign the economy was off track according to the media. Are these jobs in the room with us right now? Seems like we're getting a lot of "suprises" with the headline jobs numbers these days... and even more "surprises" later when the revisions quietly come in. The decline in the unemployment rate came with an asterisk: The labor force shrank by nearly 400,000 people, meaning fewer Americans were counted as unemployed. The share of Americans working or looking for work slipped to 61.9%, its lowest level since the fall of 2021." Unemployment is "down", because more people are giving up. It accurately reflects official U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data from the March 2026 Current Population Survey (CPS) household survey, as published in the March Employment Situation report (released April 3, 2026) and available on FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data).
Here are the exact figures from the post, confirmed directly from BLS/FRED data: Foreign-born workers (those not U.S. citizens at birth): +806,000 in March 2026 → total 31.974 million (a new record high). Native-born workers (U.S.-born or born abroad to U.S. citizen parents): –194,000 in March 2026 → total 130.791 million. The biggest problem with health care is the end user almost never sees prices. You walk into a doctors office you have no idea what anything costs. Cost could be $100 or $1000 you have no idea. Three months later you get a bill for $82 which your portion after insurance. Most people don’t care because whatever it is they do pay is a small fraction of the actual cost. So there is no price comparison. What do you care if the cost is $100 or $1000? You’re not paying more than $80 either way.
There’s no other consumer industry that operates this way. It’s fucking insane. Posted by: Heroq at April 05, 2026 02:15 PM (c3Uld) 47

Living around the BLOATED medical system in parts of NC that comprises of Duke, UNC, Rex, Wake Med for the better part of 25 yrs, I realized a long time ago, these medical complexes are cities within their respective city and that half the people hired are worth their pay checks. The medical complexes will continue to suck the life and money out everyone and everything until AI takes over. Then, there will end up being massive unemployment and poverty galore in these cities. The CEO of NY Health will be replacing, in the very near future, radiologists with AI because of the massive amount of money they will save. Not that that will be passed on down to us little people.

And this is why the privately insured are so sought after...and how if we switched to single payer, our entire system would collapse and we'd all be looking at Canadian healthcare...

67 I thought you were talking about Medicare.
I have no idea how Obamacare works other than it's screwing people royally. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at April 05, 2026 02:36 PM (nXhai) I'm talking Medicare. And prior to that - in my lab work example - my employer's high-deductible medical plan. They gave us a cash subsidy into a HSA to help cover deductibles. Still - wonder what would happen if you told dentist you can only pay $X?
I have no dental insurance. This means I pay $109 per visit, two visits a year; this number (knock on wood) hasnt changed since I started seeing this dentist about a decade ago. Had to have a root canal a few months ago. Quoted price was something over $3,000. Found out I dont have insurance, it went to $2,500 even. No idea if those are good or bad numbers. But its one less bureaucracy I have to deal with, which improves quality of life. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at April 05, 2026 02:43 PM (EXyHK) 79

I didn't know that you could work and carry a second plan along with Medicare. Negotiating between the two must be a mess.

Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at April 05, 2026 02:43 PM (EXyHK) They aren't great - if you have a private plan that gives a baseline insurance (so it's just included in your health plan, but it's not "bells and whistles"), you make out way better... Not sure about 65+ plans... I pay $5 visit (for cleaning and yearly X rays). Nothing for fillings, and discounts for further work...like a crown costs me $800 start to finish...implants (which my husband did) were more, but doable... I have no idea how Obamacare works other than it's screwing people royally. Posted by: Braenyard Y’all don’t know the half of it. My parent company is United Healthcare. They have put a pop up in the scheduling program that tells you not to schedule more than TWO MEDICARE PATIENTS PER DAY. This effectively blocks access and is poor patient care and is unconscionable. I override it. Let them write me up. I will not make a patient wait five freaking months because of Their insurance. UHC is fucking evil. Posted by: Jackson K. at April 05, 2026 02:49 PM -------- I believe Obama was born in Honolulu, and his mother was an American citizen. Whether his mother renounced his citizenship while in Indonesia, or he listed himself as a non US citizen to gain college admission or other favorable treatment, I don't know. He had an uncle and aunt who were illegal aliens living in the US for years and years. He seemed to regard them as embarrassments to pay off and keep out of sight in the attic.
