The Obama Library (aka "The Flak Tower") is about to open, and they've released their admission prices.
Thirty bucks, with four bucks off if you are an Illinois resident. Naturally, if you claim to be an Illinois resident, you have to show ID to prove it. For some reason, the Obama Library doesn't care about the millions of people who can't get ID, and would be unable to vote if ID was required. Picked up a nail in my tire on the way and limped home. Got to bed at 12:30 and woke up at 3:30, unable to get back to sleep. Found a place up in Rogers AR with many brands, and they actually sit you down and measure your feet with a Brannock device. When your feet are getting old, wide and gnarly it's tough finding shoes. They also do arch support fitting if you need it. Figure I'll blow off $600 or so for two or three pairs good shoes and a pair of slippers.

So I had a thought recently. You know how so many leftist protests are simply paid for? The protestors are paid agitators paid for by a business, right? Why doesn't the government regulate this as a commercial activity? Now the gub'mint can't make these people protest for/against anything in particular right but how about simple regulations that identify them as being employees of a business? If you work at a call center you're required to announce that a call is monitored and recorded, why not a requirement that these paid agitators announce they are indeed paid agitators? Force them to say or wear whatever necessary. Here, a t-shirt that's identifies the org you work for, a high visibility vest with same and a hoodie with big pink bunny ears. If you like a Catholic mass but want to see the church living out the actual teachings of Jesus, Episcopal churches are great! Yes! If Roberts and Barrett rule that the 14th amendment doesn't mean what it says (along with the liberal bloc), I think a large majority of the American people would back a ban on issuing visas to any foreign national who is pregnant.
If the Supreme Court seriously says that a women can fly from China to the US, give birth, fly back to China, and that her kid is therefore a US citizen, we really have to rethink the whole visa system. You'd think they would be able to ban birth tourism at least. Posted by: The ARC of History! at April 06, 2026 01:02 PM (n1OCj) 189

We would have "battles " between the different set of marbles. Cavalry usually won even though they were heavily out numbered. Though on occasion, the 7th cavalry would meet their reward on the basement carpet. Posted by: Beartooth at April 06, 2026 01:09 PM (tYGL3) 213

Good lord, does my little girl ever love socket wrenches and screwdriver bits. I will be stuck buying my missing pieces every year forever, but at least it's more or less random which ones. I have a full complement for now, but it's still spring, when a young lady's attention turns to stealing my expensive things and losing them.

Were Apollo 13 calculations imprecise?" There are 2 common systems. One went to the moon and back. The other is metric... Posted by: man at April 06, 2026 01:43 PM (XuXeR) 349

With what I work on now my deep 10mm stays attached to my 1/4 ratchet. I don't even pack standard anything anymore. My only needs are two multi screwdrivers, a 1/4 deep and shallow socket set and about 20 special keys.
It's nice after years of dragging around 2 tons of tools. Posted by: Reforger at April 06, 2026 01:29 PM (ZhdAT) If my life was that easy. Even after decades I'm still amazed how many frigging tools are on the lift when working on a harley. Its insane, as if somebody dumped a tool box. Allen sockets, long allen sockets, long ball allen sockets, a rail of 1/4 and 3/8 drive sockets, socket extensions, wobble extensions, assorted pliers, snap ring pliers, multiple wrenches, ratchet wrenches, impact gun, large 1/2 drive sockets, multiple screw drivers, etc. That don't include the specialty tools. Its crazy Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at April 06, 2026 01:43 PM (snZF9) 351

I have to agree with what someone said upthread.

The Euros are still stuck on "airplanes cost money, people don't, so the US was stupid to rescue those two airmen". I think that on matters military and what is decent, honorable, and right, Euros should stand mute on anything that touches on how our nation conducts its military affairs. The earlier thread re King Chuck reminded me of the video of Churchill's funeral. It's well worth a look. England will never see his like again:

Our spaceship doesn't have a working toilet, but it can take a selfie.
Tell me it's 2026 without telling me it's 2026. I strongly hope the toilet and the selfie camera are from two different engineering teams. Posted by: Ian S. at April 06, 2026 01:45 PM (2ocoG) 361

The Euros are still stuck on "airplanes cost money, people don't, so the US was stupid to rescue those two airmen".
Tribalism vs the individual... It's the whole "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one" riff from Star Treks II through IV. Spock led with that version, and Kirk inverted it when he threw away his career to resurrect Spock. And as a lot of people have pointed out, recruiting gets a lot easier and the troops will fight harder when they know the Pentagon will move heaven and earth to rescue you if something goes sideways.
