But there's been a knock-on effect - my neighbor had a woodchuck, but no wherewithal to get rid of him.

With no nearby woodchuck competitors, this woodchuck has grown to Gorlock-esque proportions.

I used to worry about him getting through my back fence. Now I'm not sure if he could fit through my gate.

So congressional subpoenas are effectively toothless. The court clearly thinks that only one of the three branches matters at any given time: the executive when a Republican is president, and the judiciary when a Democrat is president.

The whole structure of the court was always destined to get out of control. They are a group of non- elected god- kings who serve for life and can’t be removed. They have no reason to care about what the public thinks. The constitution protects them from accountability.

There is a reason why US (and Israeli) pilots will take on about any mission is that they know that if they get shot down, that the rest of the US military is willing to risk life and limb to rescue them. The rest of the US military knows that when they need hell rained down on the enemy that the US pilots will do everything that they can do to deliver it.

It's a grand tradeoff.

There was a nice little shaded rise at one end of the field with great sightlines to the entire thing. We broke out the bolt-action .223 and the spotting scope and took turns playing sniper and spotter for about 5 hours. There also might have been a beer or two consumed, but my buddy's grandpa never griped about groundhogs again.

Believe it or not, he somehow got in the house once. My grandmother (RIP) saw him and thought it was a cat.

Hell, any time Congress did write laws about the courts, they were explicitly limited in scope, refusing things like jurisdiction on certain matters (like immigration) that the courts have been ignoring for decades.

If this poster got what he suddenly wished, a defanged court system, he'd hate the results because the country would shift massively rightward pretty much overnight.

Jefferson talked about this, but you don't need the SC to arbitrate. Congress could then remove funding until their interpretation was accepted or the populace either voted out the president or the current congressional majority depending on which they agreed with.

The system does depend on congress doing its job of course and not to spend its time voting on earmarks and renaming post offices

Oh, they absolutely need someone out of the race. If Swalwell doesn't exit, then there's a good chance that two Republicans would end up competing against each other in the CA governor race. It's a jungle primary, so everyone's on the ballot and the top two vote-getters run. The Dems need to have at least one candidate to get through so they can win, and Porter (or any other Dem) isn't going to win without another Dem leaving.

The head of the CA Dem Party was begging someone to do the right thing and leave. They're not asking nicely anymore.

I went into some NYS animal lover forums after Hochul sent has assault team to kill Peanut the Squirrel.

I pointed out the man that ordered the raid was appointed by her and could be removed by her if she wanted to. And that since she wasn't doing so she was fine with his decision and so people that disagreed with her should vote for her opponent.

People like to say that the Constitution is perfect, but that was one big glaring hole in it right from the start. That's why Marbury got away with his after the fact fix of giving the power to the Supreme Court; nobody else was claiming it, and they feared that the Executive could become an Emperor if he had that much power.

Marbury was quite clever, he provided an answer to a problem that nobody else was ready to deal with.

Good question. I remember Bush Jr saying something similar to "if it's unconstitutional, the courts will let us know" when signing a bill. NO you dolt, you as rep for exec branch have to make that judgement before you sign, same as each congressman before voting to pass. The judicial branch is a co-equal branch, not the ultimate decider on what is constitutional or not. If congress and the executive are in agreement, the best the judiciary can do is gum up the works.

For kids, it's "lose you coat" season. Put 'em on the school bus in a coat on a cool morning, watch them get off it in the afternoon sans coat.
This would happen 8 or 9 times each year, with successful coat recovery about half the time. My daughter went through 3 or 4 coats every year through middle school. A couple of times, we found a coat she lost in October in the school lost and found in March. Some other kid took it home, then "lost" it later.
