But there's been a knock-on effect - my neighbor had a woodchuck, but no wherewithal to get rid of him. With no nearby woodchuck competitors, this woodchuck has grown to Gorlock-esque proportions. I used to worry about him getting through my back fence. Now I'm not sure if he could fit through my gate. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at April 06, 2026 03:08 PM (BI5O2) 35

Supreme Court vacates Steve Bannon contempt-of-Congress charges. The Court did not explain its decision. There were no noted dissents.
SCOTUS returned this case because the prosecution pulled it. There really wasn't an option for SCOTUS. This is Trump helping his buddies in a way that follows the law. For this particular case, the spin is to make SCOTUS look bad rather than the real perpetrator, Trump. So congressional subpoenas are effectively toothless. The court clearly thinks that only one of the three branches matters at any given time: the executive when a Republican is president, and the judiciary when a Democrat is president. The whole structure of the court was always destined to get out of control. They are a group of non- elected god- kings who serve for life and can’t be removed. They have no reason to care about what the public thinks. The constitution protects them from accountability. The rest of the US military knows that when they need hell rained down on the enemy that the US pilots will do everything that they can do to deliver it. It's a grand tradeoff. By favorite JAG story from the French era was when a corpsman went to treat a wounded jihadi who then attacked him with a knife leading to the US soldier killing the jihadi and the JAG(offs) decided to charge our soldier with murder. Well, they leaned on one of the soldiers there with him to testify against the corpsman OR ELSE but being a smart guy he agreed under the terms of a full and complete pardon for himself Then when the soldier was brought up to testify he...claimed he himself killed the jihadi leaving the JAGOffs with no way forward to charge either of them... Jefferson talked about this, but you don't need the SC to arbitrate. If Swalwell doesn't exit, then there's a good chance that two Republicans would end up competing against each other in the CA governor race. It's a jungle primary, so everyone's on the ballot and the top two vote-getters run. 11th Amendment Chisholm v Georgia 1793 Chisholm loaned $ to GA during Revolutionary War. After war GA said thanks for your contribution and we're not paying you back. Supreme Court said Georgia had to pay Chisholm back. In record time 11th Amendment was passed not necessarily to prevent the contract or tort obligation but certainly to throw cold water on efforts to make a state pay you back. In California for instance you have six months to sue the state for torts. In Nevada state torts are capped at $250,000. Posted by: torabora at April 06, 2026 04:08 PM (KtOUo) 270

Page 185: "The engineer who actually built the algorithm stealing the election for Biden looked at me like I was an idiot and asked, "Do you think we stole the election here in the blue counties? We're smarter than that. No, we shaved off votes in the red counties in the countryside where Trump was strong, and we left the blue counties untouched. We shaved off 10 percent in Douglas County (Colorado) and 10% in Mesa County (Colorado) and other red counties until Biden's count was over 50 percent statewide." It strikes me as being like pufferfish - not worth it.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice I do admit, I once had a morbid curiosity about trying pufferfish. But, like my morbid curiosity about going skydiving, I got over it. Posted by: Bulg at April 06, 2026 04:20 PM (77rzZ) 302

Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at April 06, 2026 04:25 PM (BI5O2) ======== Well, their chief mullah is gay and in a coma, at best. Their tippy top of the IRGC leadership is dead. It's really not about "Iran" agreeing or not. It's about which surviving commander is agreeing and how much he controls. It's always going to end with one IRGC commander deciding to make a deal and then killing the others. --- It is officially wrong coat season. Posted by: I'm always poorly dressed ----- For kids, it's "lose you coat" season. Put 'em on the school bus in a coat on a cool morning, watch them get off it in the afternoon sans coat. This would happen 8 or 9 times each year, with successful coat recovery about half the time. My daughter went through 3 or 4 coats every year through middle school. A couple of times, we found a coat she lost in October in the school lost and found in March. Some other kid took it home, then "lost" it later. Posted by: buddhaha at April 06, 2026 05:16 PM (0r3iH) Processing 0.05, elapsed 0.0598 seconds. |
