I saw a video from Johnny Harris explaining why the western world economy exploded and China's froze and even regressed starting in the 1800s.
And the first half was ok - he pointed out it was capitalism. And then he even got into Deng Xiao Ping and how his experiments with capitalism made China the power it is today. Oh, did I mention Mr Harris is one of those voxplainer guys? Yes so the second half covers why capitalism is bad. Did you know not everyone's wealth increased at the same rate? Doctors have advised Stevens to wear a neck brace for approximately four weeks. Despite the injury, he remains fully mobile and in good spirits as he continues his recovery. Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu, Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse and DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement:
Donald Trump is completely unhinged. His statement threatening to eradicate an entire civilization shocks the conscience and requires a decisive congressional response. The House must come back into session immediately and vote to end this reckless war of choice in the Middle East before Donald Trump plunges our country into World War III. For years, Republicans have enabled and excused Donald Trump’s deeply dangerous and extreme behavior. Enough is enough. Our brave men and women in uniform have been put into harm’s way in the Middle East. Over a dozen have already been killed and hundreds injured. Gas prices are skyrocketing, the cost of living in America is out of control and billions of taxpayer dollars are being wasted on a reckless war of choice. It’s time for House Republicans to put patriotic duty over party loyalty and join Democrats in stopping this madness. Posted by: The DU Voice of Sanity at April 08, 2026 12:24 PM (0sNs1) 50

76 but with a call for … gun control.
Gun control is one of the dumber issues if you really do look into it. Ok, America has "gun violence". Almost all of it by a small group of people engaged in all sorts of criminality. So the answer is...throw people that commit existing crimes in jail for a long time or execute them right? No...the answer is let those people out on the streets and put the people who aren't committing crimes with their guns in jail for having them. Posted by: 18-1 at April 08, 2026 12:33 PM (sKqQm) And then go one step further: prosecute those who use guns for self defense. Shoot a criminal trying to kill you go to jail. In reality, all those criminals need to be paying the politicians and judges that want them out a late night visit... Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at April 08, 2026 12:35 PM (ynpvh) 90

Posted by: 18-1 at April 08, 2026 12:33 PM (sKqQm) It's not about logic, it's about control. They want the State, in their hands, to have an absolute monopoly on violence. Once they have that, they can do what they want. (See also: German, France, England) They fear an armed populace will rise against THEM. Remove THEM from power. there is a certain logic in calling for gun control. deny the 2nd amendment means what it says while twisting the laws to let criminals run loose, sooner or later the modern liberal fascists will expect people to let the courts and pols twist the bill of rights to regulate speech and the media, throw opponents in jail for hate speech and spreading misinformation, allow cops to come into you home without a warrant, etc.

As much as I love Trump, and unless he's playing 11-dimensional chess using disinformation ops, I wish he'd keep his mouth shut about what should be clearly classified technologies and actions.
To wit, it was only because he announced ahead of time (which he's criticized past idiot POTUSes like W, DogEater, and F. Joe AutoPen for doing) that we were going to take out all of Iran's power plants and bridges that they were able to mobilize human shields -- giving their allies and our Treasonous Fifth Column Left all of their "War Crimes" and "Impeachment" talking points, and likely forcing Trump to back down. [Again, this may have been intentional and perhaps he was actually going to target different infrastructures, so that could have been a deceptive head fake. I wasn't happy about him revealing the "Discombobulator" technology -- nor now the "Ghost Murmur" technology that somebody (CIA, DOD, or Lockheed Martin "sources") leaked to the New York Post. [Again, the caveat here is that these were intentional leaks and in some manner disinformation to accomplish some goals unstated.] /end rant Posted by: ShainS at April 08, 2026 12:50 PM (TbhYO) 154

Really? How do you know what I know Bulg?
It’s funny. You know some of the coordination that happens here sometimes. I mean, it’s very easy to figure out where most of the population stands on the mullahs. Notwithstanding what we’ve seen in actual real video of protests across various cities. Not to mention verified accounts of jailing, murder and what not. I am not saying that as a call for action by us. But it’s actual facts. Then you have the trolls coming in, thinking people can’t figure out who they are, and making unsubstantiated claims. Weird. Even in WW2 the Brits had to abandon the Pacific as they could not stop the Japanese and mostly just ran from them. Churchill realized their Pacific holdings depended completely on the US Navy. They could not even take Germany on their own, much less the Japanese. They weren't strong then, and are markedly weaker now.
Posted by: Xipe Totec at April 08, 2026 12:51 PM (pohLc) They were powerful- as long as they could concentrate force. Their holdings were so far flung that the two front (Japan and Germany) exposed the weakness there. They could not divert forces from Europe because they feared invasion. Meanwhile we did not depend on colonial holdings for resources and men. So, we could sit here in Fortress North America and project power without having to draw it in. From 1939 to 1941, the Royal Navy pulled most of their Pacific units closer to the ongoing conflict, for example keeping the Mediterranean at least not wholly an Italian lake and thus the Axis could more easily threaten British control of Egypt and the Suez Canal.
Then the balloon went up in the Pacific. And what was left of the Royal Navy, such as HMS Exeter and hero of the Battle of the River Platte, were quickly swept aside or sunk with their American and Dutch allies in the Dutch East Indies. December 26th, 1941 would see HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse be sunk while returning to port by Japanese airpower. Then the British would lose an aircraft carrier, HMS Hermes, and several other ships when Nagumo's carrier force struck Ceylon. Posted by: Anna Puma at April 08, 2026 01:00 PM (2GVsD) 211

By 1944, the Royal Navy and the situation in Europe had changed. Admiral Cunningham in the Indian Ocean thus began assembling a force that would become the Pacific Fleet built along the lines of the American carrier task force model. The Royal Navy would also have to create from scratch another US Navy invention - the fleet train of supply ships and oilers.
So, in the closing days of the Pacific theater, the Royal Navy would be operating with the US Pacific Fleet in attacking the Japanese Home Islands. The last Victoria Cross would be awarded in August 1945 to a Royal Navy Corsair pilot, posthumously. Posted by: Anna Puma at April 08, 2026 01:14 PM (2GVsD) 270

His book gave me insight into his unprivileged childhood and his knowledge of the problems of blue collar people comes firsthand. He mentions the "big 4" plant employers to people in the area. His grandparents worked in one. My grandfather worked in the other. I always held a belief that he's a good guy and has his head on straight. Hiroshima was the Japanese army headquarters for the expected American invasion.
Hiroshima as a viable port is about as far south you can get on the Home Islands to support an invasion. Which is why it was a US invasion objective before landing further north in 1946 near Tokyo.
