ICPS is firing, seems good. This is the perigee raise maneuver that gets in actual LEO, raising perigee out of the atmosphere. They'll dick around a bit there, then do a big apogee raise burn, putting Orion in a very high elliptical earth orbit with a period of about 24 hours. They'll then check systems out for a day, then the SM will do the final TLI push to the Moon. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 01, 2026 06:58 PM (w6EFb) 16

Zimmerman is saying the real test will be with the life support system. SpaceX hasn't designed anything like this (the Dragon is just a shuttle to LEO). Zimmerman is least hopeful for the return. The heat shields failed in 2022. NASA's response was "yolo" to that. The new trajectory is supposed to put less pressure on the shields. Posted by: gKWVE at April 01, 2026 07:11 PM (gKWVE) 46

One alleged controversial element of SCROTUS eliminating 'birthright citizenship' - "But, but, but what about all those anchor babies losing their citizenship?"
Happens en masse several times before. When Philippines was cut lose from being a Territory they had a deadline to get ass into what would in the future be the US proper by a deadline or they would lose citizenship. If Puerto Rico goes independent, the same. When certain island nations of the Pacific Trust Territory went independent, same. Nothing remarkable about it other than some people freaking out about "It cannot happen" It happens and has happened to tens of millions in the past WRT US citizenship. BOOM! Kayleigh just dropped TRUTH: There are over 500 firms in China helping CCP members come here to give birth in the US, all thanks to Obamas 2009 loopholes. That could mean 1 million new anchor baby voters by 2030. ____________________________ I mentioned this oddity before. In Southern California there a number of mobile birthing centers. They move around to different motels along the border. And, while you might assume that most of the non-citizens using these birthing centers to be hispanic, you'd be very wrong. Most users are Chinese "tourists". I'd go so far as to guess that the CCP is providing some funding for these ad hoc set ups. Posted by: Orson at April 01, 2026 07:32 PM (dIske) 127

So have we kinda figured out the actual question before the Court today?
A) deny automatic citizenship for all noncitizens born in the US, after January 1, 2024. B) grant automatic citizenship for all noncitizens born in the US forever. Those are the only actual options before the Court. See, as others noted, the ACLU option is the most extreme. And they don't grant any lesser option--all citizens forever, no exceptions, no restrictions. OTOH, Trump is saying, the accepted interpretation has no legal basis. But, we're not going to punish those already here. We only want to start enforcing the law as written. So, you can say Roberts and ACB are spineless weasels--and they are--but there is a reasonable option and an extreme option before them. Now go back and look at their questioning in that light. This happened with the Apollo mission several times. Iw was listening to some of the accelerated mission audio for Apollo 8, 9, 10, 11 a while back. I went to visit a cousin in Nebraska last year, and it was different. I live in a valley between two mountain ranges, and am used to hills and such. Rare sighting....
============== The U.S. Air Force Materiel Command’s secretive NT-43A has been spotted in Florida, taking part in the preparations for the launch of NASA’s long-delayed Artemis II lunar space mission. This highly unique and notoriously shy plane, a converted militarized Boeing 737-200 variant (T-43) also commonly known by the callsign RAT55, has long been used as an airborne signature measurement platform to support work related to stealthy military aircraft. However, during a high-stakes space launch, its two huge radar arrays, modular electro-optical and infrared sensors, and other capabilities would likely be well-suited to gathering telemetry and other valuable data. I hate com loss on modern digital telemetry systems because they will just echo/repeat last values and for voice that's the last things the crew says, sometimes their words echoing over and over. Very disconcerting when you are on ground monitoring. There was a Dr Who episode where the crew's coms would do that ehco and they must have consulted a test crew because it happens just like that. Echos from ghosts.

There's a little notch where the river runs, then its flat for miles and miles. Not level; it gains about 1 foot of elevation for every mile you get away from the river. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at April 01, 2026 07:40 PM (El6/E) West Nebraska is on a tilt for about half the state. Coming back there was a blizzard that shut down the highway for a day or so so we were stuck near Salt Lake. As we went into Nebraska they had plowed the highway first then plowed the overpasses down onto the highway so there was a ridge of snow and ice the trucks had bulldozed mostly clear. It was bumper to bumper at night with trucks going about 40 no stopping. Our truck blew a tire and we just had to run on the one tire of the pair for hours before we could find a hotel and service station. Posted by: Oldcat at April 01, 2026 07:51 PM (8avO+) 196

My late older brother made the mylar canister that they carried the flag to the moon in on the Apollo 11 mission. He took the left over scrap material - cut it up and gave a piece of it to each of his siblings. It is my proudest possession: its like having a piece of material that Columbus' sail was made from.
That Mylar canister can be seen lying on the surface of the moon in some of the photos that Armstrong took. I like the idea that there is some litter from my family on the moon. Posted by: An Observation sez Trump is my President at April 01, 2026 08:05 PM (Da7Vv) 213
