Paul Newman racing at the Daytona 24 in the mid 90s. NASCAR took off the way it did in part due to the open wheel and sportscar racing splits in the US at the time. Open wheel was screwed over by arrogance and greed. Sports car was screwed over by arrogance and greed. Go figure. A guy named Andy Evans really set back sportscar racing in this country. NASCAR didn't mind though. Both splits have ended of course. Indycar is doing pretty well and IMSA has carried the torch. Still, they aren't as popular as they used to be. I suspect the car culture in this country isn't the best anymore either. That doesn't help matters.

Artemis is doing their "proximity operations" test now, playing around with pretend docking and station keeping with the ICPS (upper stage). This is testing maneuvering the Orion spacecraft for docking operations. Apollo 8 did similar play docking with the S-IVB (third stage) after TLI. Orion is now in that high elliptical orbit, apogee raise complete and is coasting. That has spent the ICPS stage. On the next perigee loop around, in about a day, they will deorbit it to burn over the South Pacific. Orion will then do the TLI boost to get it to the Moon. Thanks for the ONT, T Rex.
Unlike many Morons & 'ettes I love Steve Perry's voice, still good after all these years. Yes, I know, rather bubblegum or something when he was part of Journey, however, some great music for this dancin' queen. Paul Newman's eyes. Oh, boy. Only met another pair of blue eyes like that and even more spectacular with thick black eyelashes. Possibly the most beautiful man/boy I ever met. A year before I met my green eyed bf/husband. There are not many Paul Newman eyes in this world, but I met a guy who had it all til he died a few short months later, age 24yrs. Rare cancer. Gone.No choice but to go on and work hard in nursing school, which he knew was my goal. Need to watch that movie tonight, and I thank you for the reminder. Another pair of beautiful eyes is Leann Womack's. I'm told mine are not so bad, even in my fossilized state of age. Green. President Trump gave a great speech tonight.Respectful. Subdued. Tired. But not tired of winning. May God be with him and give him strength. Please pray for him and his cabinet as they make the world safer. I don't have a lot to do with 'popular" culture. The majority is clearly aimed at younger audiences, not someone in their seventies. Happened to watch Trump's address on the local Fox channel and didn't switch after. Some show called The Masked Singer came on. Never heard of it before. The music was awful, I didn't know who any of the performers or panelists were and it was so overblown with fake excitement it made my teeth hurt. So-called adults were acting like they were the Peanut Gallery on Howdy Doody. I could feel brain cells dying the longer I watched.
After a few minutes of thinking WTF is this thing, I muted the sound and opened a book. If this crap actually has millions of followers, I fear for the country. The books on my shelves never looked better. Posted by: JTB at April 01, 2026 10:48 PM (yTvNw) 146

so everyone talked me into listening to Plant's Ship of Fools.
It is actually good. I'd not heard it before. ----- The music industry has always been a Hunter S. Thompson world (most of you will get the quote). I would like to encourage the 'Rons who aren't familiar with Robert Plants FIRST solo album to find it and give it a listen. Its titled "Pictures at Eleven". Plant stepped out first after John Bonham's death ended Led Zeppelin. He put together a masterful album...it had his ringing voice and reminded listeners that he was the voice of Zeppelin. But the album wasn't a blatant attempt to rip off Led Zeppelin. Musically, it included the previously undiscovered Robbie Blunt on guitars. More than half the tracks had Phil Collins on drums, even though Genesis was at the height of their popularity--that was the power that Robert Plant had. The remaining tracks had Cozy Powell on drums, whose resume included long stints with Rainbow, Whitesnake, and Emerson Lake and Powell (the successor to Emerson Lake and Palmer). Here's a haunting track off Robert Plant's first solo album. It sounds both "like Zeppelin", and yet...individual. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doj08c62 Posted by: Crusader at April 01, 2026 10:56 PM (Cjcf6) 159

Never saw "Nobody's Fool", but you made me curious. I just read that Willis took the base salary $1,400 per week just to be able to do a movie with Newman. Additionally, he was left out of the advertising (posters) at his own request and doesn't appear in the opening credits. He did this because he was all action movies in that time period and didn't want to confuse movie goers/fans. It was his prime, I belive (1994). Tandy died unexpectedly before the film was released. AND, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in it playing a police officer in one his earlier roles.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at April 01, 2026 11:05 PM (n9ltV) Switzerland still might be ok? It used to be so clean people would float down the Aere River, the main river flowing though Bern, in the summer. Try that in the Seine and you'll probably get radiation poisoning and every parasite known to man. And they have some of the tougher immigration laws in Europe. I hear Japan is cheap once you get there, it's the airfare that's killer. Travel goals! Posted by: LizLem at April 01, 2026 11:17 PM (gh+Ib) Posted by: Kindltot at April 01, 2026 11:18 PM (rbvCR) 193

I saw this post, and immediately fired up the Victrola and got up to dance! Amazing song (for me)! The instrumental changes throughout the song are quite impressive. 🎶 Posted by: COMountainMarie at April 01, 2026 11:21 PM (dACf/) 198
Watching Gutfeld and they're discussing Gavin Newsome's wife's interview with Jen Psaki where she (Newsome) talks about taking their young children to Alabama so they can see and experience racism, poverty and ignorance (paraphrasing) first hand. What infuriates me is Mrs Newsome's smug condescension and confidence that nobody will ask her to 'give us an example that the kid's saw....' Pittsburgh Scanner @pgh_ scanner • Mar 27 Knoxville. Reifert Street. Caller said a bunch of people were in the street. PD arrived and said they found that it was for a memorial balloon release. When they released their balloons, it hit the power lines and took out a large portion of the neighborhood's power. Ain't that just like Aunt Estelle, though? Woman always was a buzz killer. 140 Remember when one of the news shows went undercover at a NASCAR event to show how racist the fans were? FAIL.
Posted by: Harry Vandenburg LoL!! I 'memba!! That was in 2002, when the post 9/11 view in the msm was that the racist America hillbillys were burning muslims at the stake around the country. They just had to find the most racist part of flyover land. Turned out that was Martinsville, VA. I think it was 20/20. One of those newz shows. They sent a couple of muslims, decked out in robes and prayer hats, to rural VA, hoping for a racist incident they were so sure wsa to happen. This one came up as part of one of my mixes the other day --though I think I'll be removing it upon deeper reflection of the lyrics in light of Doug's...erm...proclivities. Once upon a time they were great -- especially the first two albums. This is from their fifth album, which definitely signaled their departure from faith:

Well, nothing happened and it was all on camera. Everyone was nice to them. Helped them to the ticket counter, explained NASCAR nuances at a short track (there aren't many), and generally just left them alone. Nothing happened. It was funny! Must have been a blow to there precious worldview. Maybe. They have since doubled and tripled down on the razist country bumpkin locals who hang minorities as a hobby. Was it not at a NASCAR event where the crowd was chanting "Fook Joe Biden" and the bimby behind the microphone expressed the idea of how cute it was that they were chanting, "Let's go Brandon" to support of one of the car drivers?
