Granted it was a commuter train, end of the work day, and four blonde Americans got on to their dismay with one carry on suitcase.They were yapping in Finnish, which none of us speak. I was tired. Made my way to a seating of 4 lads sharing a beer over a table. One tiny man was hogging two seats and I asked politely to sit and he moved over (seeing as I was taller, lovely but with a mean crazy look in my eyes). The rest of my family were strap hangers, but not me.
They chattered away as I looked at scenic windmills and commented how pretty, etc. Knowing they hated my American guts and ignoring that fact because I did not care.
When two got off the third one actually made eye contact and was nice to me. As it bloody well should have been from the start since they were not speaking German thanks to us.

It depends on a lot of things, including the bullet, the charge, the age of the ammo, the condition of the rifle chamber and barrel, and how it was modified from 8mm Mauser to 30-06.
I hit a blacktail deer with a glaser type hunting round from a .303 Enfield at 50 feet and it did not penetrate . A friend hit a buck with a .30 carbine full jacket round and it zipped through and hit the doe behind it too.

IIRC the story, the engineers were running behind so the appartchek running the program planned a party on the launch pad as they were supposed to finish.
This led to the engineers and techs working round the clock and someone left a valve open letting a toxic/flammable chemical to seep out
It caught fire and then exploded killing a good deal of the USSR's best scientists, engineers, and technicians all in one go...

Artemis II is sort of like Apollo 8, but it's not going to go into lunar orbit, just a free-return fly-by. It will go "higher" beyond the Moon than any other Apollo mission and set a record for that, but it won't go into orbit.
Why? Because the stupid SLS and Orion don't have the fuel/delta-v budget to insert into lunar orbit and get out. Orion/SLS is no Apollo/Saturn V.

Oh, they're going to use Elon's tankers. Big Time. This is what a boondoggle the SLS/Orion approach is. The lunar lander is going to be a modifed Starship, dubbed Starship HLS. It has to get the Moon and insert itself into orbit on it's own. Multiple refueling and tanker launched into LEO will be required to fuel an HLS version for its trip to the Moon.
Orion carries the crew. The dock in an EPO/CoLA orbit (that stands for Elliptical Polar with Co-plane Line of Apsides -- I roll my eyes at their acronyms).
Crew transfers to HLS to land. HLS then brings them back to Orion. At this point, you scream, if Starship is going to do all that, then why doesn't it just carry the astronauts itself to begin with?

The communist countries never saw the need to follow safety protocols - for example, onboard destruct systems if a rocket goes out of control. I remember seeing a cell phone video sent out of China after a failed rocket launch from the countries interior. (Don’t know if it was a satellite or military or whatever) Big rocket goes up, looks good, then it loses control and pitches down and there’s no self destruct - it flies at full power straight down into a populated area where all that rocket fuel made a real Big Bada Boom.
The Chinese never reported it. When asked they said there was no crash because there was no launch. What about the video? There was no video, and if we find person who took video that does not exist, he get long stay in re-education camp.

Seems to me they could do mass spectrometry analysis of the lead alloy and copper alloy of the bullet jacket from the fatal bullet and of an unfired one from the rifle's magazine. Should be the same. Not necessarily dispositive if they are the same, but if they differed beyond the range of experimental error, it could be reason to do more examinations.

I go back to the day a friend mag dumped an AR15 into a large car battery. I think a 27 series, and all it did was poke holes in it and knock one of the caps off. I hit it with an M1 garand with one shot and the battery vanished, like removed from this earth. We found one small chunk of corner and maybe a few small shard of the plates. That was it, gone, scattered to the wind. That was probably 1960's surplus ammo. I could not believe the frigging power that round had. With that kind of energy I would figure a neck shot would pop his head from his body, unless there just wasn't enough area to generate the hydrostatic shock. I still can't believe that battery. Its etched in my mind.

I think that managers always feel like they need to put their mark on the department, so they have something to point to in their bid for their next position. So, IT managers for an established product are always pissing off customers by messing with their "cognitive capital" of knowing how things work. It's a real cost, and I think that for very large projects like Windows, it could be worth it to bring in a cross-functional manager near the end whose bragline would be something like "saved us from pissing us all our valued customers, by cutting 1213 wholly unnecessary changes from the new version."

Artemis II is sort of like Apollo 8, but it's not going to go into lunar orbit, just a free-return fly-by. It will go "higher" beyond the Moon than any other Apollo mission and set a record for that, but it won't go into orbit.
Why? Because the stupid SLS and Orion don't have the fuel/delta-v budget to insert into lunar orbit and get out. Orion/SLS is no Apollo/Saturn V.

The original Chevy Colorado was a weird beast that look like a Tahoe, with the rear roof cut off, and an end gate fitted to the back of the cab. Just like the Honda Fridgeline (so named, because it is an appliance). But I thought the Colorado name was now used on a "mid-size" pickup; a little bigger than the old S10, but smaller than a base Silverado?

It was an amazing achievement. It was incredibly expensive. It served very little practical purpose.
The current moon base plans don't make any sense either. We're nowhere near the capability of setting up any kind of useful resource extraction, it's just another gimmick project that is destined to be canceled.

I am thinking that the Artemis Program, although a bit of a boondoggle, is necessary for us to keep up some semblance of space program (and I also don't want to hear the nonsense that will ensue if China somehow manages to send a manned mission there before we do (again). We waste enough money on useless shit, fraud and graft, I think we can find some space (pardon the pun) in the gigantic deficit spend for this.
