![]() The Big Dummy dozes in his man cave at a show. It's a 4x4x4 pen with a top that can be put together in a few minutes, giving him plenty of room to stand or lie down on blanket and pads. Sheets hung on the outside give him some privacy, he has food, water and chew toys and a floor fan to keep him cool. The only things missing are beer and a TV. Hadrian the SeventhHe's all set, and looks relaxed! Thanks for sending in the great photo of his life at a show. Quite the set-up! Encountered by Members of The Horde ![]() ![]() This week's wildlife photo is... a Gray Treefrog (Hyla Versicolor)I don't know about the series of novels, but I looked up another famous amphibian: From an Aztec god to Minecraft star. Why does Mexico love the axolotl so much? Legend has it the axolotl was not always an amphibian It has made quite a sensation lately.

I have seen enough tree frogs on my back deck (and grill) to last me for the rest of my life, thankyouverymuch. Posted by: bluebell at March 28, 2026 03:20 PM (afFes) 2
the clip of the tot giving the dog a pillow made my afternoon. Especially her little "oooh how cute" gesture and face at the end.

Gave The Cat some Churu squeeze treats earlier. There is definitely crack or Red Bull in those things. She's clawing to get into the treat cabinet now for more.

Ralphy is recovering incredibly well. He easily makes it up and down steps but I'm still carrying him to let soft tissue damage heal. The stairs to my bed are going downstairs. I'll lift him up and down when we watch tv. Snowflake the cat, upstairs now, licks and grooms him before laying by him. Very cute. Everyone have a great rest of the day. The dog at the top? Describes my Piper exactly. She is not particularly trainable unless you have a spine of steel, which luckily, I have. She is a force of nature, and really thinks she should have her food, Ruby's food, my food, and DH's food. And treats, all of the time. Because she is Piper. Caught her last week getting on the kitchen counter stealing shredded chicken.
And, the vacuum must die. And, if I can't reach your face, I will jump up to get to it. No matter how many times mom steps on her feet. Posted by: tcn in AK at March 28, 2026 04:27 PM (OhEuo) Posted by: four seasons at March 28, 2026 04:28 PM (3ek7K) 36

Spring is here! Posted by: All Hail Eris, She-Wolf of the 'Ettes 'Ettes. at March 28, 2026 *** I'm reminded of the frog hunt scene in Steinbeck's Cannery Row. "During the millennia that frogs and men have lived in the same world, it is probable that men have hunted frogs. And during that time a pattern of hunt and parry has developed. . . . Big Stirling was just napping with me, and Dagny is over on the end table watching him play with a paper grocery bag.
Now and then they get more creative and destructive. One of them got the snap buckle of a strap of my leather briefcase. No harm done; the buckle is brass and hard to destroy. I just wonder how they get it off to start with. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 28, 2026 04:41 PM (wzUl9) 45
Went to my local gun store yesterday - which is a one-man operation. However, the owner always brings his very large, male German Shepard to work.
He has to leave the sales office to go into the gun safe if you are making a purchase. The German Shepard then fixes a look on his face that says, "Go ahead, make my day." to anyone that is contemplating jumping the counter and breaking into the cash register. I believe the dog is a little depressed that no one has yet tried to make his day. Posted by: Pillage Idiot at March 28, 2026 04:45 PM (HlyYF) 46
Little Dagny just turned four this past week. I gave her treats and a little extra playtime, and Miss Linda snapped a good pic of her standing on the kitchen floor, looking like a Hollywood star glaring at a member of the paparazzi. Since she is a very sweet cat (amazingly, she's curled next to me right now), it's not representative of her personality at all.
I'll send it in to KT so that you can see how she's developed and flourished since the fall of 2022. Stirling also turned four earlier this month. Cue the cliche, "They grow up so fast, don't they . . .?" I need a companion pic of him. But being black, he is hard to photograph. Does anyone have a recommendation for wildlife cameras?
Posted by: four seasons at March 28, 2026 04:28 PM What is your main goal? I have had 9 cameras (over the years) to monitor wildlife at our farm. The "deer" cameras from the name brand U.S. companies have been a little hit or miss for me. Just as an experiment, I bought one of the cheap cameras from Amazon. (A GardePro E5 for $40.) It has given good service and good pics for two years so far. If you need "real time" data for monitoring intruders, etc. then buy one of the cell phone cams. I have used the Tactacam. I think it was $100. The cheapest cell plan is about $15/month, and I think that is for 200 photos per month. If that is not enough info, come back into the thread with more questions and I will check in after finishing some yardwork. Posted by: Pillage Idiot at March 28, 2026 04:54 PM (HlyYF) 52

Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at March 28, 2026 *** Many times, Perfessor, and in the before the cellphone times too. Big Arizona the red tabby loved, and stole for his own, Mrs. Wolfus No. 2's childhood stuffed Pegasus. It was just the size of a rat, apparently. Late at night, years later, I'd hear him scuffling with something, and would creep out to see him playing with it. The funny thing was the look he gave me, as if embarrassed to be doing such kittenish things -- "Busted!" -- and he'd rise and stalk away from the Pegasus. Then next week he'd be doing it again. He's been gone since late 1999. I still have the toy atop my bookcase. Stirling has been hit-or-miss, thankfully miss, on his little hobby of leaping across me and kicking me as he goes in the early morning. For a while you could almost set your watch to him: 3:45 am. And I plan to get up at 4:30 to 5. The last two mornings, though, he has not done it and I've been able to sleep until the alarm, or today until 5:30. That's rare for me to do that, and unusual now for him to let me do it.
I hope he's outgrown this hobby. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 28, 2026 05:11 PM (wzUl9) Processing 0.01, elapsed 0.0144 seconds. |
