Below: I posted this a couple of days ago. Here, a Florida cop stops a "migrant" truck driver to ask him questions. He speaks no English and is even unable to say what a "No Right Turn" sign means. He literally speaks no English and his only answer is "No, no."

But by some estimates, there are over 20,000 of them in the country. There are at least 16,000 "registered" ones.

That is an insane amount of CDL schools. By contrast, there are only about 5,000 colleges in the country. And those colleges have 20 million or so students enrolled. There are only about 3.5 million CDL truck drivers in the country.

So there are 4x as many CDL schools serving a small fraction of the students as colleges are. What possible reason could there be for this? This is a yuge scandal in and of itself.

It's a merge onto a freeway frontage road, where the road is 1 lane and the incoming lane gets it's own continuing lane. There's a sign there that shows one lane becoming 2 lanes, so you don't have to yield or stop, you can just drive in your continuing lane.

I don't know about all of the other CDL schools but when I started my class there were about 30 of us. When we finished there were 8 left.

Granted my school was legitimate and actually did the crazy stuff like drug and alcohol testing on an almost daily basis and made us pass the state mandated driving test 3 times before they would certify us to take the actual state road test.

I am not sure how a fake CDL school can get a person a CDL unless the state in engaged in some serious kick backs or fraud.

96 A number of years ago I had a job on the other side of a wealthy leftist town. Traffic patterns had changed and so there were a lot of jobs in the towns on one side, and a lot of housing in the towns on the other side.

So what did the wealthy leftist town do? They get a half a dozen stoplights placed on the main artery that passed through their town so traffic stopped to a crawl for the 1 or 2 cars going the other way at those lights.

But this only worked for so long...when GPS came out guess what it directly me and everyone else to do? Drive through the side roads in their town.

Oh the fun! Suddenly it became a problem that people were stuck in gridlock...in their town instead of on the outskirts. Walking the dog or driving to Starbucks was now no longer a simple affair.

And I had to laugh and laugh

Ace, I listened to Duffy and think he was talking about the cost of the CDL license from these sham schools, not the cost of opening a school. That is consistent with other reporting that you could pay $800 to $1,200 to one of these "schools," and they hand you a certificate that you are qualified for CDL.

$800 for a CDL course is itself a red flag. Reputable CDL schools charge 5x to 10x more than that.

108 There are, or were, a bunch of legal loopholes that permitted over the road trucking companies to setup an office in Mexico. Recruit and "train" drivers there. Register the trucks there. Pay the minimal taxes there. But DoT regs permitted the trucks to run on US highways.

If those get delt with, the regulations, and this practice becomes more difficult or expensive, then we'll see some real change.

Right now, it's whack-a-mole with the drivers. And they're increasingly finding back roads to avoid those pesky authorities. I see them here, running the back roads to get from KY into IN or TN without hitting a weigh station.

If I understand correctly, the $800 dollar certificate means, you and whoever you want (for some amount of money) can now be determined to be qualified per a credited school.

I could become a certified school with this certificate and now "I am the captain" - I will tell the country who is qualified. (Whoever gives me money).

Pretty devious and perhaps inevitable as the regulations strangle all productivity.

I can't say for CDL but when I was at the DMV one of the testers came out during my 3 hour wait and asked if there were any people there "certified" by a driving instructor. A few hispanics got up gave them some paper work and they were out in five minutes.

I had a Ukranian take out a guard and when I confronted him he mumbled some shit into his phone and handed it to me. It started translating and it was nonsence.
