I don't know why she says that. Maybe he's flashing a TdA gang sign or something. This judge overseeing a lawsuit against Elon Musk has previously mocked him online, but refuses to recuse herself. Because she hates him, and she wants to be the one to bring him down. Elon Musk demands judge's recusal over 'support' of LinkedIn post that mocked him after $2B verdict Elon Musk is demanding a Delaware judge step aside from a high-stakes Tesla case after she allegedly "supported" a LinkedIn post mocking a $2 billion verdict against him in a separate California case. Lawyers for Musk and Tesla filed a motion in Delaware's Court of Chancery seeking the recusal of Chancellor Kathaleen St. J. McCormick from overseeing consolidated shareholder lawsuits, arguing her conduct "create[s] a perception of bias" that taints the proceedings. The explosive filing centers on activity tied to McCormick's LinkedIn account following a federal jury verdict in California that found Musk liable over tweets he posted in 2022 about his $44 billion Twitter deal. The complaint includes a screenshot of a LinkedIn post by Harry Plotkin, a Southern California-based jury consultant who worked with the legal team that sued Musk for securities fraud in San Francisco federal court. "Sorry, Elon. Sorry, Quinn Emanuel," Plotkin wrote, referring to Musk and the law firm that represented him. "Thanks $2 billion for your help in this trial. It was a pleasure working against you. Congratulations to the trial team at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP and Bottini Law for standing up for the little guy against the richest man in the world." The filing alleges the post was promoted by McCormick's account, with a banner above it reading: "Katie McCormick supports this." McCormick has denied intentionally endorsing the post, claiming she was unaware of the interaction until LinkedIn notified her she had used the heart-in-hand "support" icon, according to the Financial Times. "I either did not click the 'support' icon at all, or I did so accidentally. I do not believe that I did it accidentally," she wrote in a letter to attorneys. As alleged in the filing, LinkedIn's "Support" reaction -- shown as a heart cradled in an outstretched hand -- requires a deliberate selection from multiple options and is generally interpreted as a stronger endorsement than a standard "Like," which is the platform's default, one-click response. A separate LinkedIn post criticizing Musk also drew engagement from the judge's chambers, with a staff account "liking" a message saying "so many people who should be so deeply ashamed of themselves seem incapable of being so," according to the filing. In the filing, Musk's lawyers argue the LinkedIn activity strikes at the core of judicial impartiality, writing that the posts "are not simply negative criticism" but "inflammatory," mocking Musk and his attorneys while celebrating a multibillion-dollar verdict against them. They refuse to recuse themselves even when their is blazing evidence of bias precisely because they are biased and emotionally invested in the outcome of the trials they rig. The British PatriotA senior member of Iran's Ministry of """ Intelligence""" was also, sadly, deceived by aides resulting in an incomplete understanding of his own death.

This judge overseeing a lawsuit against Elon Musk has previously mocked him online, but refuses to recuse herself.
The main flaw with the system is that it relies almost entirely on honor and dignity to restrain judicial abuse. No one can force a judge to recuse themselves, so they don't. No one punishes a judge for letting a murderer go free 87 times, so they do. No one punishes a judge for making stupid rulings, in fact they get promoted by Democrats. There's no cost. All of that and more was supposed to be prevented by having sober, honorable, dignified men who loved the law and justice over themselves. And as a last resort, legislators can remove them from their office, but it almost never happens, and is almost impossible to even make happen. So much noise, so little signal.
The whole judge thing is a win-win, because if she doesn't recuse Musk has good grounds for an appeal, and the judiciary as a whole looks even more shamelessly corrupt. This is a necessary precondition should Trump choose to begin ignoring them because he can point to example after example where they beclowned themselves like this. Posted by: Nelly at March 25, 2026 05:59 PM (7gpcF) --- It's about how you approach it. It is not a single, cohesive work but instead a series of essays. You don't have to read it in order. Many of the chapters are effectively standalone in terms of characters (especially humans). Skip the first part, which is very symbolic and about the creation of the world. Dig into the early chapters about the origin of the elves and stuff. Or the darkening of Valinor. That's the good stuff. Christopher Lee recorded himself reading bits of it, and it's great. People love it because it is severely *metal* with heroes fighting against impossible odds at a scale well beyond LotR. Dragons are actually involved in battle, and don't always win because the heroes of old were frickin' HARD. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at March 25, 2026 06:04 PM (ZOv7s) 213

I'm sure all you hard Tolkien buffs are revved up that none other than Stephen Colbert is writing a script for a new LOTR movie. Posted by: Nelly ===== The Silmarillion is fragmentary as it was simply the manuscripts that Christopher found of his fathers that were most complete and unless you are really interested in Tolkien's world building mythos, a bit confusing, depressing, and hard to connect like a massive Russian or French novel is for some. The rest of Tolkien's unfinished bits are worse; useful if you want to know what he considered the mythos behind the Trilogy. If you want something a bit more complete from Tolkien than his mythos back stories, read Sir Gawain and the Green Night, Pearl (this is a translation from older English), or my personal favorite--Farmer Giles of Ham. Basically, Springsteen wanted to be famous and celebrity over that of being a unique musician. His original manager wanted him to go another way like his earlier stuff. These were his first writings and they make up discrete narratives that are somewhat linked. It's closer to a Conan the Cimmerian collection. The places and characters repeat, and build upon each other, but the episodes also somewhat stand by themselves. It is darker than LotR because it was written in the immediate aftermath of World War I, and that gives it the raw, brutal feel that sets it apart. But it is also supremely heroic, with Beren and Luthien doing the impossible and stealing jewels from the very crown of Morgoth. Epic. And even when the good guys lose, they go down fighting hard. Hurin being taking alive after slaughtering 70 orcs by himself, Fingolfing, High King of the Nolder engaging Morgoth and single combat and wounding him permanently. It is great stuff. Also: no hobbits. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at March 25, 2026 06:13 PM (ZOv7s) 246

The best way to enjoy the Silmarillion is to get an overall idea of what is in it, then re-read the Trilogy and hop into the Silmarillion when it is referenced in the main text.
It fleshes out the Lore of Middle Earth well, that way. Posted by: garrett at March 25, 2026 06:14 PM (Klk40) 248
The juvenile "murder your way into the gang" has been around forever, do 2 years as a made man in a juvie and back on the street. A wonderful old guy in Ocean View Norfolk who was friendly to everybody, maintained the Publix grocery store and helped people with their groceries for was such a victim. Victim? Oh, I mean oppressor. Posted by: Auspex at March 25, 2026 06:14 PM (Y8DZL) Posted by: garrett at March 25, 2026 06:15 PM (Klk40) 250
212 ...
--- It's about how you approach it. Lloyd at March 25, 2026 06:04 PM (ZOv7s) ________ The opening I actually liked. (Lewis borrowed it for the creation of Narnia.) LOTR perpetuates the delusion that the good guys win. I'm not seeing it in this world.
Posted by: Field Marshal Zhukov at March 25, 2026 06:08 PM (wBaIH) --- They do win because God is good, and He will win. But good people will die, because it is a fallen world. They key is that death is not the worst thing that can happen to us. It will happen to us all. What is more important is the time after death, because we will be dead far longer than we are alive. Plan accordingly. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at March 25, 2026 06:16 PM (ZOv7s) 252

Posted by: Field Marshal Zhukov at March 25, 2026 06:08 PM (wBaIH) --- Actually, they don't. Tolkien cited that it is Frodo's failure to resist the ring that is the climax of LOTR. Posted by: Axeman ====== Yep, Providence in the case of Gollum saved Middle Earth but had mercy not been shown to Gollum earlier by Frodo and Samwise, then Gollum would not have been around to destroy the ring. Of course, the entirety of LOTR takes up about a page and a half in the Silmarillion. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at March 25, 2026 06:16 PM (ExV1e) 254

"Obama, himself said that gas could make it's way to $9/gallon--only not too fast." Posted by: Axeman
For Obama, expensive gas was a solution, not a problem. A solution to "pollution" was the excuse, but a solution to Prosperous and Free America was the real motive. "No coal power plants for US, those are all for China (and India)." Posted by: illiniwek at March 25, 2026 06:16 PM (vbXSk) 256
Tolkien intended to write a sequel to LOTR. But he decided that it would mainly be about "satanic cults" trying to bring Sauron into the world.
And the more he thought about that, the more he wanted to leave LOTR as it was. Because as I said above, Tolkien thought that Frodo only had to show up. "The One who is always present" takes care of the defeat of Sauron, from there. This is precisely in keeping with Tolkien citing that Frodo's failure is the climax. He also said that it is pretty popular to believe that Samwise is "better" than Frodo, but Sam hadn't had to carry the ring. That revisionism. Thus, JRRT is saying that Sam would have failed too--perhaps even earlier. Posted by: Axeman at March 25, 2026 06:17 PM (Fi81e) 257

It's one of those things they only mean when it benefits them. If they had leveraged a $2/gallon tax on gas, they'd be deliriously peeing themselves.
They don't actually care that gas prices are high, but they know Republicans and normies do and they want to demoralize Republicans and depress polling. If possible they want to turn normies against the president. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 25, 2026 06:18 PM (PYyV9) 259
>>Of course, the entirety of LOTR takes up about a page and a half in the Silmarillion.
The stories that make up the Silmarillion are constantly referenced throughout the other works. Through Geography, Song or Tales...you get ref'd to 75+% of the content of the Silmarillion. Posted by: Eeyore at March 25, 2026 06:16 PM (AlhUl) --- Skip to the rebellion of the Noldor and have a cheat sheet handy for the sons of Finwe. Feanor, Finarfin, Fingolfin, and then their children. These elves are not the ones from LotR. Much more impulsive and violent. And in the early battles they completely kick ass. The dwarves are cool, too, fighting Glaurung the dragon and wearing steel masks to defeat his heat, forming a ring around him and pounding him with great axes. Beautiful. I reread the original trilogy about 5-6 years ago but simply lack the interest to tackle it again. More so with the Simarillion or Christopher's other edited volumes. Doubt I will ever read the Hobbit again. The Bible itself is a true heroic epic on a level far beyond even Tolkien. Posted by: whig at March 25, 2026 06:22 PM (E4rtv) 263
>>>35 I don't understand the motivation behind removing Easter from the package. Its not even a Christian holiday any more. Aside from one sunday sermon, Christians barely celebrate it any more. Its all eggs and bunnies and candy.
You're thinking of the evangelicals. Lutherans still celebrate Easter -- starting with Lent, Ash Wednesday, Lenten services every Wednesday evening, Palm Sunday, Holy Week with Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, and then Easter Sunday. And Easter is not just one day, it is until Ascension Day. So yes, Christians still celebrate Easter.
