... Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana said it was under a shelter-in-place order March 9 after “a report of an unmanned aerial system operating over the installation.” ... “Between March 9-15, 2026, BAFB Security Forces observed multiple waves of 12-15 drones operating over sensitive areas of the installation, including the flight line, with aircraft displaying non-commercial signal characteristics, long-range control links and resistance to jamming,” the document said. “After reaching multiple points across the installation, the drones dispersed across sensitive locations on the base.” Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 20, 2026 07:34 PM (Puq9y) 13

I have got to save that page from the Babylon Bee.
It's Friday evening, pizza night at Chez Wolfus. Tonight it's a Tony's pepperoni. We had a special deal earlier this week with a fresh-made one from Fresh Market, so why not save a couple bucks on the second? And I like the Tony's pizzas, with their crisp but not thick crust. "The Enemy Within" is on Trek tonight on Heroes & Icons. I never saw it when it was new, and James Blish had not done it as an adaptation. So when it ran one Saturday afternoon during my high school years, I was riveted. Richard Matheson was a top-flight storyteller, wasn't he? CN's Walker looked like Shakespeare or Die Hard compared to the 2021 woke/wimpy remake. Okay, nobody's going to be the martial artist CN was. But Jared Padalecki's Walker is painted, at least in the first two episodes I saw, as something of a loser, and the plots did not involve any real investigation. Posted by: Boss Moss at March 20, 2026 *** It's possible -- just possible, now, but there has been some research on it -- that the substances the cigarette companies put into the white sticks to keep you addicted are the real danger. The nicotine may be addictive, yes, but it may also have analgesic properties. When I was working, if I got up feeling like I'd been wrestling instead of sleeping, a short pipe smoke would often smooth things out. Still does. And it may be a coincidence. But I haven't had a single infection like a cold or the coof since 2022, about a year after I took the pipe up again. Odd, too, that I never took up the white sticks. My mother smoked Pall Malls for years; the packs were right in a kitchen drawer, and she'd often ask me to bring her a pack when I went into the kitchen. And several of my youthful fictional heroes, James Bond, Ellery Queen, and even Sherlock Holmes, were cig smokers. But I guess smelling the smoke of Mom's PMs put me off.
My best friends in high school and college were not ciggy people either. Some of them got into pot later, which never interested me (alcohol was my thing). Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 20, 2026 09:01 PM (wzUl9) 193

Yeah, the pipes themselves -- new, $65 and up; estate, $35 and up -- are a cash outlay. But then you have them and they last decades. Several I bought in the '80s still look great and smoke the same way. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius I still have my pipe from the mid-80s, $7 from the Ft. Bliss PX. Someone is paying a lot to show political commercials in VA during the NCAA Tourney. All about that redistricting vote in April. The commercials are Stalinist of course and are telling me to vote yes. The reasons are #BADORANGEMAN, red states, etc. They like to pretend that blue states haven't been gerrymandered to the limit and only #BADORANGEMAN and evil red states are doing it. It's retarded but the commercials are probably effective, in Soviet NoVA anyway.

My most recent pipe is an estate that might be more than 70 years old. Recently restored; it looks like a small bit of fine furniture, like you'd hate to bring a flame anywhere near it.
Nevertheless, I took it for a trial run this afternoon. It might have been the blend I put in it, or it might have been the breeze outside, but it seemed to burn hot. You know what works? Adderall. Yeah. Spent 8 hours being tested before the doctor would agree to prescription. 30 mg upon waking, 20 mg aound 2:30 in afternoon. Sleep at 9:30. Ate two small meals a day. Never felt hungry. Posted by: rickb223 at March 20, 2026 09 You should know I am the biggest geek ever. I don’t smoke, never have. I have never done illegal drugs. I am trying lower carb and a lot more lifting. Slower, but I do not also feel like a mental defective.
Posted by: Aetius451AD work phone at March 20, 2026 09:34 PM (zZu0s) --- Sugar is evil but carbs are the true enemy. Look at proteins with zero carbs. Do you like cheese and crackers? Break the crackers in half so you cut your carbs by half. Lots of low carb options for stuff now. Also protein and exercise go together. More nuts, more dairy (heavy whipping cream in coffee) make you full. And fasting. Pick a fast day (I choose Friday because I'm Catholic). Nothing crazy, have a light breakfast and then wait until dinner. Lowers BG and burn calories. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at March 20, 2026 09:43 PM (ZOv7s) 280
This suspension is the third one in a year and a half for the agent, Myosoty “Miyo” Perez, who served as the “site agent” for the Butler campaign rally where a would-be assassin shot Trump’s ear, killed retired firefighter Corey Comperatore, and seriously injured two others in the crowd.

Speaking of weight loss drugs, my husband's cardiologist wants him to do a sleep study to see if he has apnea and if he does, wants to put him on Ozempic because it's been shown to help sleep apnea.
1) I'm a light sleeper. I know my husband does not have apnea. 2) I'm pretty sure that it's not the Ozempic per se that helps apnea, but rather the weight loss, which can be done without Ozempic. 3) I think we pretty much know that Ozempic causes muscle wasting, which I suspect IS NOT GOOD FOR A PERSON'S HEART MUSCLE! 4) Sheesh. Posted by: BarelyScaryMary at March 20, 2026 09:54 PM (w5FC4) --- I mean, what do you want to know? Lots of Catholic apologetics out there. Look up Scott Hahn on youtube and you can see how he went from a rising star in the Reformed movement to staunch Catholic. Taylor Marshall was also a Protestant who converted. I keep seeing this Joshua Charles guy on X who is a bit younger and may relate better. If things continue to calm down here, I'm planning on being and OCIA sponsor in the fall (that's how people come into the Catholic Church). I'm a convert, and was a sponsor in 2016. I really enjoyed it, but it took up a lot of time and my wife said I couldn't do it until 1) the kids grew up and 2) I was out of the Guard. So now I can! Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H.
