I would like another one, but I couldn't stay light on my feet and come and go when I want, or lock up the house and vanish for a few days. Most people around me have dogs though, so I'm always around them. The one shop I work out of has a dog, so I'm around that one a lot. The dude that lives next to the shop pops in a lot with his dog when they are out walking. Another shop I occasionally work out of has a dog. I'm dogged out by the end of the day, in a good way. When I get home my dog shift is over. lol

We moved a few times when I was a kid and ended up in Mass when I was going into Jr. High. I don't have much of an accent, they all seemed to cancel each other out.

The old Nawlins "Yat" dialect sounded like Brooklynese, generated by some of the same factors (e.g., a port, mixing of Irish and German with other speech flavors). It's fading now; you can hear it in some of the 'burbs and on the North Shore of the lake. But the old neighborhoods have changed too much.

I've been working with a professor who recently moved to the "big city" (St. Louis). Almost as soon as he moved into his new house he had a problem with squirrels invading his walls.

Not being physically around the opposite sex is part of it too. Porn and then Tinder is a poor substitute...but that's what the current gen seems to be using. Plus Filters and TikTok/Instagram are really inflating expectations. So hot guys are getting ALL the tail and normal guys are left in the cold, masturbating on the internet alone.

No joke. When I first got my office as a junior faculty, I was situated in the English Dept. Unbeknownst to me, they were engaged in a Civil War between the Lit Analysis crowd that wanted to teach their weird little subspecialities and the English Comp faculty that had to teach basic English I and II composition.

Nasty dirty little civil war in that department as a result and I stayed in that office for about three years. For me it was great as I had a parking lot right outside my office.
