AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

1/24 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd posted some updates and requests. In the blessings department: blood glucose has continued to fall, well within normal range. BP is good. The hole where his molar used to be is coming along nicely. The youngest has jaw surgery coming up in February. This is many years in the making and should correct her bite and ease the pain in her jaw and ears. She’s not looking forward to the liquid diet, but is looking forward to the pain relief. Prayers are always appreciated, and based on what they have been through, he knows they are efficacious.
2/14 Update – His daughter’s jaw surgery seems to be fully successful, thanks be to God. She is recuperating rapidly, the swelling is sharply down, and she’s counting the days to getting off the liquid diet.

1/31 – George V asked for prayers for his wife. She needs a heart valve replacement but first needs a heart cath to assess the valve and determine the replacement procedure and perhaps put stents in the coronary arteries that may be partially blocked. Also, the preliminary CT scan of her heart showed spots on her lungs that may be cancerous.
2/21 Update – The prayers are working. Thanks be to God and everyone who prayed. The heart cath showed no blockages in her arteries. The heart valve procedure will be in about 4 weeks. The pulmonologist said the lung spots have a very low chance of being cancerous, but a second scan will tell for sure. So far good news, and thanks to all who prayed for her.

2/14 – Vmom deport deport deport asks for prayers on behalf of her husband, as his employer is expected to file for Chapter 11. They are hoping for a decent severance.

2/14 – TCN in Alaska asked for advice. She is currently allowing her son, his girlfriend, and their infant to live in a condo she owns, and they are providing a terrible environment for the baby: pot-smoking, booze, no food, no formula. TCN in Alaska asked for advice about how to handle the situation. Prayers would help.

2/14 – L gave an update on her brother Ron. He has been in declining health for the last 6+ months, and has been transferred to a nice facility for hospice. They had been discussing this possibility for months. He would make improvements, then relapse, each time ending up more disabled. The best part is that he is at peace with the decision. He is aware enough to assist with the final plans and is enjoying parceling out his remaining possessions to family and friends. L’s daughter’s cardiac recovery continues. L says she cannot thank all sufficiently for the many prayers.

2/19 – mindful webworker requested prayers for his wife. Milady Jo will be having surgery on 2/26. It should be outpatient, and then a couple of weeks of recovery. Prayers are welcome for her, her surgeon, and her hapless husband while she’s down.
2/26 Update – The surgery is for Respiratory Epithelial Adenomatoid Hamartomak (REAH) – basically a blocked up nose. It’s relatively rare. It took a while to find an ENT whose diagnosis and surgical recommendation gave confidence. The surgery should improve her life greatly. It is scheduled for 1 pm.
2/28 Update – Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers for MiladyJo’s surgery. It took about 4 hours and seems to have been completely successful. There has been a great improvement in breathing and even appearance. She said that, after years of waiting, it seems like a dream, and that she knows with family, friends, and Morons and ‘Ettes, she is much loved.

2/20 – Gouveneur Morris requested prayers for herself as she has surgery scheduled for 2/27 for spondylolisthesis.
3/5 Update - Gouveneur Morris’ surgery was successful – every prayer and thought directed her way is appreciated.

2/21 - Skip asked for prayers for his sister and her two children, as they grieve their husband/father. The memorial service was on 2/21.

2/21 – Vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for Gerry and Cathy, the elderly parents of her co-worker, B. Gerry and Cathy are in failing health, and B is bravely trying to keep them cared for and independent while also being a mom to her own kids.

2/21 – San Franpsycho requested a prayer for complete and immediate healing for PS, his oldest living relative, who is back in the hospital due to post-surgery fever and possible pneumonia.

2/21 – Sock Monkey asked for prayers of comfort and peace for Rickb223, who recently lost his wife to cancer. It was apparently a long battle and he was her primary caregiver. He is struggling. Please pray for him.

2/25 – LinusVanPelt posted a request for prayers for himself. He had a health scare and it’s freaking him out a bit. He had a real thing happen, and then received a clean bill of health, but has 2 more doctors to see. He can’t stop irrationally worrying that they’re going to say bad stuff (despite the real reason for the visits is to adjust medication levels).
2/28 Update – He woke up in a hospital ICU recently. Everything checked out, and it was a stress-induced incident, but that means he needs to make changes in his professional life. He is looking for the Lord’s guidance.

2/25 – Teresa in Fort Worth posted that she might need some prayers. Her PET scan was less than encouraging. She will have more information on 2/26.
2/26 Update – There were 2 new spots on her liver and a couple of weird things in the transverse colon. But the oncologist says he is not worried by anything he saw on the PET scan.
2/27 Update – The newest chemo protocol appears to be working. Her cancer markers are below the “cancerous” range. So for now they will continue with 2 weeks of continuous medication delivered directly into the Hepatic Artery and 2 weeks off. Unfortunately, one of the meds is a low dose of steroids, so her appetite and her Zepbound are currently duking it out.

2/25 – Robert posted that he needed an ‘Ette to kindly bash his brains in. He is suffering yet another massive gout flare up, and needs someone to end it all for him. He asks for an ‘Ette because he knows women are capable of inflicting great violence with only love in their hearts.

2/26 – Farmer could use some prayers. A biopsy is scheduled soon. The dentist said he found a couple of suspect spots. After having had prostate cancer, anything like this really alarms him.

2/26 – Bluebell passed along news from grammie winger: “Tomorrow (2/27) I go in for an all day marathon of tests and consultations. Then Monday (3/2) they will attempt the surgery. It is quite complex and they are not exactly sure they can do it. If they can, it will be a ten hour procedure. I confess to being a little apprehensive. The Rev is a little overwhelmed poor soul. Fortunately my two kids have me covered. My daughter the nurse for the medical side, and my son for the spiritual side. He has been a rock.”
3/10 Update – GrammieWinger’s son said she wanted us to know that she had surgery last Monday, and they were able to get most of the cancer, but they had to remove her colon. It’ll be a long recovery time, but she’s in good spirits and good hands. Grammie’s daughter has been at the hospital every day. Grammie Winger is very thankful for all of your prayers and she looks forward to talking with us soon!

2/27 – turambar posted that his/her mom had surgery for a broken left hip. Lots of pins and a rod were required to fix her up. She is in recovery now and doing okay, but she has a long road ahead since she is 86 years old. Thanks for your prayers; turambar appreciated them so much.

2/28 – 2009Refugee asked for prayers for an older sister who was scheduled for brain surgery on 3/4.

2/28 – no one of any consequence requested prayers for the repose of his oldest friend, who died on 2/22. His friend had returned to the church in recent years. No one of any consequence will be giving the eulogy at his memorial mass.

2/28 – San Franpsycho asked for prayers for P’nina Bat Surel, who remains hospitalized and still is not stabilized.

2/28 – Fenelon Spoke asked for prayers for a friend, P, who is dealing with a pinched nerve and has to have surgery in a week or so. She also has a daughter, K, who just got out of the hospital having had major mental health problems.

2/28 – LinusVanPelt requested prayers for our troops, President Trump, and for Israel’s government and the IDF as well.

2/28 – Sock Monkey requests prayers for Mrs. Sock. She crashed and burned pretty hard while skiing Thursday. She went to work very sore and using a cane.

2/28 – JJ posted that his wife was discharged from her rehab facility and her prognosis post shunt surgery to regain strength and physical abilities is excellent.

3/2 – RickZ posted that he received bad news. He went to the ER with muscle pain and came out with a cancer diagnosis. He could use prayers for an extremely capable oncological team of cancer specialists, and that God guides their hands and minds as they work to rid Rick of cancer. And also that God would provide him peace and calm, and to help sustain him through this trial.

3/5 – Inogame posted the good news that baby #5 arrived! Baby was overdue by 12 days. Mom and baby are doing well. Baby was 9 pounds 8 ounces, and 21.5 inches long.

3/5 – IrishEI has learned that she needs major surgery on 3/16, and she would really appreciate prayers.

3/7 – Uncle Slayton posted the good news that his son-in-law, Kenny, is almost 3 years cancer-free. He beat lymphoma and leukemia, and Uncle Slayton wanted to thank everyone who prayed for him.

3/7 – Joe Kidd sent an update on a previous prayer, for a young girl named Jasmine. She is the adopted daughter of a friend of a friend. She had been rescued from abuse, but was withdrawn, etc. The friend took the family on an RV trip, and with lots of TLC for Jasmine, things have improved. It appears that God has surrounded this young girl with an army of angels, and your prayers for her are being heard. May those listed here and whispered elsewhere receive similar affirmation.

3/7 – vmom deport deport deport requested prayers for GB, the husband of her friend; he just had a quadruple bypass a couple of days ago, following a heart attack.

3/10 – Warai-otoko asked for prayers for a sister-in-law with some respiratory issues, who just took a hard turn for the worse. Thanks to everyone, even if you just take a fraction of a second for it.

3/10 – Update on Susan, who we have been praying for as she battles cancer. She is hospitalized again with an infection in her colon that quickly turned bad. The doctor says the signs are sepsis but they are running tests to make sure. The good news is that the pancreatic cancer was and is responding to the chemo and her cancer numbers are going down. God bless and thank you!

3/11 – Bulg sends a prayer of thanks. He called his formerly estranged sister on her birthday, and they had a wonderful conversation. It was their second conversation since February, and there was no animosity at all.

3/11 – Doof sent his appreciation for the Horde’s prayers for his mom, who has been in post-hospitalization rehab since mid-January. She has recovered from her illnesses, but her body seems to be increasingly giving up on her. PT has become too painful and exhausting for her. She is also having increased brain fog and is rapidly losing the ability to do things like answer her phone or send texts. Continued prayers requested for her, as she is very sad, and also for Doof and his sister as they figure out what’s next.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

5 I'm going to repost this from the Tech Thread because it's cool and others may know someone in need of this treatment:

My Dad's procedure at Emory yesterday was a success. They used focused ultrasound on his brain to stop the Parkinson's tremors in his left hand. The tremors were so bad he could hardly hold anything and now they are gone.

They do it while the patient is in an MRI machine, and it takes a couple of hours. Right now they are only doing 6 procedures a month, but as the process is perfected that will increase, as will the number of hospitals that offer it.

It took a year of tests and prep to get to this point but it's worth it. It does not cure Parkinson's, but will make his remaining time hopefully more pleasant.

15 Good morning Horde thx MIsHum. Prayers for the Horde and their loved ones in need.
Prayers for law enforcement officers. I've been telling the story of a NYS trooper who has been on trial twice for murder and manslaughter. A traffic stop went wrong , the driver who had prior warrants and his family in the car took off. The trooper did a pit maneuver and a small child was thrown from the car and killed. The trooper was charger by the NYS AG and found not guilty of murder , but the jury couldn't reach a verdict on manslaughter. A new trial was ordered and yesterday the trooper was found guilty of manslaughter. Father never charged

22 fd - good news about the Parkinson's treatment for your dad. My mom has been dealing with that condition for years, though her's has progressed way beyond tremors into Parkinson's Dementia. It's only a matter of time before she will need to go into memory care. I told my wife to drop me in the Alaskan wilderness and let the bears take me if I ever get like that.

28 It’ll be interesting to see what the marines are being sent to seize; Kharg Island is a worthy target. I also have noted that there are four other small islands in the straits that are not of that much importance themselves, but which are very strategically located and useful for any force that wants to exert control over traffic through it.

I ask for prayers for Mrs. Cop's cousin, "A.B." He has been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. He is a retired police officer that had been hit by a car years ago. He attempted to deal with the pain by self-medicating with too much Tylenol - which ended up poisoning his liver. His only alternative is a liver transplant, but he is uncertain if he wants to have the surgery.

55 I'm enjoying all the lefties trying to say women will have to take extra steps to vote under the SAVE Act.

That they shouldn't have to do more than men.

Oh?

Like, say, register for the draft to be called up --involuntarily-- at any time to die in war?

Oh no!! You poor dears might, maybe, possibly have to ... go to a government office (or online) to get a copy of a document!!!

That's just like being sent to war!!!

That's what I have to pay to be a citizen.

Good to hear about all the prayer requests being answered.

I'm fed, cleaned, shaved, and checking my email and the blog before I head out for my haircut &c. This may be hard to believe, but I feel I've had enough coffee for this morning already! Yes! I doubt I'll have time or the inclination to stop off somewhere for a coffee while I'm out, esp. at today's prices.

A few years ago I began looking at my Lenten practices and decided that "giving things up" wasn't that effective and that I should try to "do more." So i would go to an a daily Mass each week, or say an additional Rosary, but my schedule is making that difficult. My wife and I saw that they are doing a Vespers service on Thursday evenings (Liturgy of the Hours) and we were going to include that, but missed the first two weeks due to health/family issues.

We did got this week and it was pretty cool. It's just a bunch of singing verses, with some Latin prayers added in. It feels ancient, because it is, and I think that's one of the big things bringing people into the Church. Everything modern now feels fake, and people want genuine authenticity.

In terms of food, a couple of years ago I began observing the Friday abstinence from meat year-round (except on feast days) and in accordance with the USCCB's guidelines, I would fast during the day to have meat with dinner. (con't)

64 It seems kind of silly to be fasting all year and then to go meatless and eat like normal during Lent, so I am fasting and abstaining on Fridays. Kind of tough sledding, but I'm also used to it. The hardest part is the lack of that protein surge I would get from chowing down on pepperoni pizza.

Another factor is that I have Type II diabetes, so my diet is already limited. Happily, a strict diet and increased exercise and weight loss have brought my glucose down to pre-diabetic levels without medication and I'm on the brink of being in normal range. I'll always have to watch what I eat, but being "condemned" to live a healthy and fit lifestyle is something I find easy to accept.

One of the "do more" things, I've decided upon for this Lent is to put more money in the Poor Box at my parish. I told Mrs. Cop how much I put in for March ($100) and she replies, "That's a lot." I told her that's kind of the point, besides we're financially secure at this time and can afford it.

68 I hope everyone is well. Thank you for the prayer list Annie's Stew and Mis Hum.

My brain is coming down after being hyper vigilant being sole caregiver for 14 years. I've only seen my family doctor once in 10 years but we had a phone call. I'm not a pill person but he prescribed pills for anxiety and depression and gave me 4 pills for panic attacks. I found GABA online and bought that from Amazon for anxiety since the pills will take a month to work. Day 5.

I had my first visit from Jillian from the mental health agency. She's coming back next week. We're going to get me through this. I showed her my plans. She was impressed. My brain is processing everything at once and I'm overwhelmed. This will pass. After she left, I did take down all the outside Christmas lights. I'm in Canada and it's been cold. Really.

I did sleep 8 hours without zzzQuil yesterday. Sleeping 8 hours was amazing.

I did have my first ever panic attack Monday. The pill worked. Interesting experience. Not recommended. Once I'm through this, hopefully I can be there in some way for other Horde caregivers. That would make me happy.

Years ago, when I was ferrying the kids to school, I started saying morning prayers in my commute. Nothing fancy, just an Our Father and then some Hail Marys. The amount varied by which school I was driving to. The middle school was three decades, the high school was two. Going straight from home is just one. On drill weekends, I might get four decades in before I hit I-69, which was when I wrapped it up with intentions and a closing Our Father.

I keep adding bits to it, so now I sometimes don't finish until I'm walking in from the parking lot or may sit in the car for a minute to finish (depending on the weather).

I have a theory that this is a setup. Trump and Thune are collaborating to drag this out. If the bills goes through, say this week, the issue is off the table. The law goes into effect, and then there are lawsuits and injunctions, etc. Judges asserting a constitutional right to stuff ballot boxes (it's a form of free expression!).

But having this massively one-sided issue just sitting there, week after week, month after month. Forcing the Dems and Rinos to recite the same stupid talking points that women and black people are retarded, that's absolutely toxic.

The 'town halls' and campaign events are going to start, along with outdoor fairs and stuff, and having this sitting there is a great way to create a ruckus.

I seem to remember that your mother was a former Catholic nun (religious sister?). Have you tried praying the Rosary? I find it very calming. You don't have to start will all 5 decades -- just ease-in, as it were.

Also, I know you're in Canada, so options might be limited, but is there an orthodox Catholic Church close-by?

Mrs. Cop and I are both reverts back to the Catholic Church. Once you reject the "pure materialism" of the secular world, and embrace the spiritual warfare that we are called the wage, it is source of great solace. The craziness just rolls off my back, now.

Jesus Christ didn't promise us a life without suffering. The Word of God became Man, precisely so that God could experience suffering.

90 I think the global goons determined sovereign nations were “selfish” a hundred years ago (unelected bureaucrats ruling the world illegitimately, is not selfish, somehow) and must be destroyed.

It isn’t really more complicated than that. Self determination, and “democracy” while right there in the UN charter, is most definitely not wanted by the usual suspects. So it’s no surprise the UN would posit that there is a “right” to invade other countries, basically.

That’s as transparent as the “No Nukes” crowd, who really weren’t against nuclear weapons per se, just against the US having them.

The shithole countries don’t have an illegal alien invasion, amiright? Weird, huh? We can argue about why that is the case.

But as that foundation crumbled, the discussion became impossible. It is no longer possible to win an argument by proving the policy will be a disaster because the people pushing it do not care. They want chaos. They are ruled by demons. There is no other logical, rational explanation. We can use psychological terms and call it "madness" or throw a clinical term in here or there to sound erudite, but the core issue is that they get off on being angry and seeing people suffer. 105 This is why the Dem (and GOPe) arguments are increasingly couched in the terms of moral absolutism, and backed up by outrageous lies. It doesn't matter of gun laws work, they are the Right Thing To Do. It's fine to repeat the easily disproven claim that only the United States has mass casualty events because the lie serves a purpose.

We have gone beyond "the ends justify the means" because no one cares what the ends actually are. No one can articulate them. Oh, the right can, but the left and their allies cannot. The means now justify the means. Cruelty is the goal. They don't want prosperity for all, they want misery for their enemies, even if it rebounds onto them.

We can pray for those people, work for their repentance and salvation, but we cannot trust them. They will break every promise and violate every pledge. They are controlled by pure evil.

What I find interesting is that the Trump II administration is embracing the spiritual.

Did you know that the White House worked with Cardinal Burke to write a prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and re-dedicate the United States to Our Lady of Guadeloupe, recently?

Sec. Robert Kennedy is being mocked for discussing the spiritual value of family meals to fight demons.

The usual suspects' ridicule tells me that the administration is over target.

Long ago someone taught me breathing exercises to do during anxiety attacks.
It's called square breathing or box breathing:

inhaling, holding, exhaling, and holding again for 4 seconds each

ALSO, very IMPORTANT, while doing this hold in your mind a happy or loving memory.
At the time I had 2 young kids, and I would hold the image of one of them sleeping peacefully.

These days, praying will calm me down before I get to an anxiety attack.

117 I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to warn you about the after effects of being a sole caregiver. It is definitely a real thing for the brain to have issues after losing the person who was its object of focus for years. We've seen it happen to several Horde members. Glad you are taking steps.

Really, I've been here for the better part of 25 years but didn't know that. Maybe I wasn't paying attention.

It'd be nice to have some sort of support group for ones currently caregiving. But I know how busy they are and any Horde caregivers probably aren't hanging out here a lot.

Hello. Mom was actually a nun in Cleveland! The convent is closed down now. And I was a computer consultant for 8 years in Columbus. Ohio is such a beautiful state.

I will be looking for a church. I need God. When I was in South Korea teaching, I actually did join a small church. We have a beautiful Catholic church here in town but it's a dwindling and older population.

Maybe you're being called to help revitalize that Catholic Church?

Our Catholic Church in town has seen a big growth in the number of young families. When we joined seven years ago, there were maybe 6 or 7 young children in Mass. Now, we have 40 or 50. The priest love to hear babies crying!

120 Emptying the insane asylums was a deliberate strategy, in hindsight. Think that was bad? They want to empty the prisons next. They are doing that now, if you hadn’t noticed.

It's interesting how things work out. In the fall of 2019 I was stricken with acute myocarditis that presented as a heart attack. Wife called 911, rushed to the hospital and after a couple of days of intense tests, that's what it was. God be praised, I took no damage. Ticker is great. But recovery was slow.

Stuck on a couch for weeks, I did a deep dive into an old interest: the Spanish Civil War. Brought it up here a bunch and of course I wrote a book about it. Yes, yes, go buy three copies, one for yourself and two to give away. Anyhow, it is strange to look back at how that chain of events went down precisely so that the book was published in the late summer of 2020. On a topic I hadn't touched on for 30 years.

121 I've been giving up coffee and alcohol every Lent for many years now, among other things.

But as far as giving goes, I usually compile a short list of worthy organizations to make larger donations to like pregnancy centers, our local Catholic radio station, and some monasteries.

But this year I am doing an empty tomb/garden pencil artwork I hope to have finished by Easter. I hope it brings some added non-verbal praise to the Lord that day.

Everyone's in my prayers.

122 Vanity is considered a sin in Catholic theology, often defined as an inordinate desire for recognition, admiration, or glory, often linked to excessive focus on appearance or accomplishments. It is considered a form of pride (one of the capital sins).

123 CS Lewis' Screwtape Letters was supposed to caution us. Turns out he described a procedures manual.

I have an edition with his extended introduction. C.S. Lewis stated that he refused to write a sequel because he found it so spiritually-draining to think like a demon.

More importantly, they want to lock US up and let the criminals roam free. It's a variation on their Replacement Strategy.

You could be the pebble that starts the avalanche. My wife and I were dissatisfied with the Lutheran church we were attending (like the pastors, but the Wisconsin Synod considers military service sinful), so she suggested we visit the local Catholic parish. It chanced that they were honoring veterans. She looked at me and said "We're home."

Anyway, we were THE converts that year. Our kids were almost the only ones crying. We had to police my middle kid because she kept trying to rush the altar. We were feeling self-conscious but one day a sweet old lady said that she loved hearing our children and that when someone on the parish council complained of noise, the priest gave a stern rebuttal, saying he wanted the Mass drowned in the noise of young children.
