Gordie Howe Bridge tolls - beauty, eh?

Gordie Howe Bridge announces toll prices significantly lower than Ambassador Bridge, Detroit-Windsor Tunnel

The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority has announced toll prices for the upcoming Gordie Howe International Bridge.

The new bridge connects I-75 in Detroit to Highway 401 in Ontario. The Detroit Regional Chamber called it “the most consequential infrastructure project in the state.”

The Gordie Howe Bridge is owned by Michigan and Canada, but is being paid for almost entirely by Canada. While the bridge does not have an official opening date, it is still expected to open to traffic this spring.

On Wednesday, March 11, the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority announced both the toll prices and Breakaway, a toll discount program that allows vehicles to pass through toll lanes without having to stop and pay.

With Breakaway, the toll for passenger vehicles is less than half the current price to cross the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, both of which raised their tolls this year.

Sam Altman admits AI is killing the labor-capital balance—and says nobody knows what to do about it

Speaking at the BlackRock Infrastructure Summit, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tackled the growing public skepticism surrounding artificial intelligence, acknowledging the warning from President Donald Trump that AI is facing a major public relations problem. Moreover, the tech executive validated widespread anxieties about the future of employment, admitting that the traditional balance between labor and capital is shifting drastically.

Addressing the current backlash, Altman noted that AI has become a widespread scapegoat for corporate downsizing and rising utility costs. “Data centers are getting blamed for electricity prices hikes. Almost every company that does layoffs is blaming AI, whether or not it really is about AI,” Altman explained, recalling his recent warning that some companies were engaging in what’s called “AI washing,” in blaming layoffs on new tech regardless if that was the reason for those layoffs in the first place. However, while some of the immediate blame might be misplaced, Altman confirmed that the underlying threat to traditional employment is grounded in reality.

New research shows over 90% of gamers find playing with AI-powered NPCs to be "enjoyable and rewarding"

New research conducted by the University of Bristol and developer Meaning Machine shows that gamers enjoy playing with AI-powered non-playable characters.

The study comprised 68 people – 31 male, 31 female, seven non-binary – playing the studio's murder mystery game Dead Meat, in which users are tasked with interrogating suepects. The investigation showed that 95% of study participants found the experience enjoyable, while 97% found playing the game to be rewarding.

75% found that Dead Meat allowed them to "express themselves or make meaningful choices". University of Bristol researchers say that all the above sentiments remained true across the different types of games that were in the study.

One sentiment expressed by participants was how the AI-powered NPCs in Dead Meat allowed for freedom of expression.

My girlfriend de jour got her rich Dad to give us passes to the loge seating at the venue. As such, we had reserved parking and an exclusive entryway. At the door I instinctively hid my bottles of booze underneath my coat. Our usher spied my liquor and said "Let me carry your luggage sir." And he did and took us up to our sky box.

The other normies were getting their weed and booze confiscated and pitched into a dumpster.

Same as it ever was . . . .

51 Actually on topic of AI NPCs, there are two (or three) gaymes that come to mind.
Fenris Wolf / Vox Day, "Rebel Moon" and "Rebel Moon Rising"; apparently the bad guys were good at reacting to player strategy, and could recalibrate. Ahead of their time for the late 1990s where enemies were generally stupid and/or scripted.
"The Hobbit". The other characters would... wander around the (text-adventure) set. Unlike the thief in Zork, the NPCs could get stuck in parts of the map you couldn't get to, which made it impossible for you to progress. I guess it's... like real life?

I have golfed a few holes that did just that. It is maddening. There is a course in West PA called Avalon Field Golf Club. Used to called New Castle Country Club. It's old. Built in 1921 by A.W. Tillinghast, who if you are familiar with golf architects, he's pretty famous. Anyway, several green's on that course do evil, maddening things. Beautiful course, very hard. Just keeping the ball on the fairway is a challenge. The terrain is very Western PA. Lots of ravines and trees. Blind shots all over the place. It's madness! Plan to golf there again this summer!

I interpret as “you get outta here right now, this is my tree!””nuh-uh, YOU get outta here right now!” Oddly entertaining, but I see where stories about things like banshees came from.

I'm a fan of their first three albums, their self-titled first album, 'Get Your Wings', and 'Toys'. All solid.

60 100% correct about March 13, 2020 being the last normal day. That day we were sent home from work and told to bring home 'something' you could do remotely, because we were going to 'experiment' with working remotely.

I did not come back to my office until August that year, for one week, and was basically considered a hero for doing so. We didn't come back en masse until years later, and we are now permanently "hybrid" and "hoteling".

I never realized it was Friday the 13th until I went back that August!

Hope tomorrow does finally really break the spell, but I'm keeping my hybrid silver lining and you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands!

More or less. We were scheduled to host a conference for 100+ people on Thursday of that week.

The day before (Wednesday), our Chancellor sent word to all faculty and staff that all in-person events were cancelled and we were to work from home.

We had to pivot from hosting a conference on Thursday to hosting workshops on Friday to train faculty how to teach their classes remotely. Somehow we pulled it off quite well.

I recognize that brand name! Not sure what brand I had at home. I know I bought a Radio Shack receiver, you know the kind, with the fake but beautiful wood casing and the brushed aluminum front -- before everything in audio started looking like Darth Vader had designed it. I had some good speakers, JBL or Advent, and a JVC cassette deck/recorder.

A burglary in Sept. '83 did for the receiver, turntable, and cassette. I know I replaced them, but can't recall the brands. Not high-end stuff, but good quality.

110 Hillaire Belloc, The Great Heresies. It's mostly free from Kindle.

Interestingly, Belloc viewed Islam as a Christian heresy, simplifying Catholicism by denying the incarnation and Sacraments.

Hillaire also accuses the Reformation as a heresy in a general sense because it broke the unified authority of the Papacy charging that Calvinism leads to the rise of nationalism and competitive capitalism.

Which is interesting because Calvinism is what allowed 9 billion people to inhabit this earth due to competitive capitalism that made all the things due to a strong work ethic and a desire to create and achieve.

Up until then, the world population was pretty flat-lined due to famine, poverty, hunger, war, etc.

Islam, OTOH, is the exact opposite of Calvinism and intends to destroy everything.

The affluence and freedom of this world was brought about by the Printing Press, Gunpowder and Calvinism, and will be destroyed by Censorship, the Sword and Islam.

149 Nope. The Reformation was the ongoing criminal conspiracy to loot the church and nobody was going to disgorge their ill gotten gains in bringing the church back together. Belloc writes that over and over in Characters of the Reformation in 1936.

Hillaire also accuses the Reformation as a heresy in a general sense because it broke the unified authority of the Papacy charging that Calvinism leads to the rise of nationalism and competitive capitalism.

AI, or in this case the sort of LLMs we call AI, has the potential for significant issues...

The immediate one is it places a lot of white collar work in jeopardy. The latest stuff, like Claude can write everything from fancy reports to actual software pretty well.

The larger problem is it opens the door even further for EngSoc style history changes. This is sort of the wikipedia problem writ large where if a false statement is created in the source of truth most people use you can make most people believe a lie.

Admittedly, it was the bottom end of their newest line, but it was all I could afford on my Burger King minimum wage at the time. I soon acquired the CT-6R cassette deck, and the PL-4 turntable, all of which were well used until a storm took out the receiver and turntable in '86. Replaced with the SX-2300 and the PL-L-30 linear tracking turntable...which is still on my stereo cabinet to this day. I've since upgraded to the Elite line for the receiver, though (currently the VSX-LX103)

AC/DC always hovered *just* below the metal line, but they did have their moments when they went over the line. The back in black album was great, and it happened right at the perfect moment of the British metal invasion when actual metal bands were releasing iconic albums of that time. Judas priest's British Steel, Black Sabbath heaven and hell, Iron maiden's Iron Maiden, and a bunch of others. Before the back in black album they had a few heavies like the song Sin City. There were songs that were just heavy enough, kinda dancing on the line. AC/DC was always a heavy rock band, maybe not metal, but damn close enough.

214 I got a preliminary diagnosis of frozen shoulder today. The doc suggested steroid shot - thoughts from those that had that same decision to make?
Posted by: 18-1 at March 12, 2026 11:03 PM (sKqQm)

Talk to a physical therapist as well, or ask for a reference. Once you get it unfrozen you are going to have to get some mobility back into it. Even if you get home exercises, they will help.
You might also consider a chiropractor because your neck and back are also going to be out of alignment.
Also, hotpad.

I get lazy and don't do mine and I start losing range of motion, and then some storms roll through and it aches, and I start again. Getting old while stove-up hurts.

The shoe-bomber who got stomped by his fellow passengers may well have set the tone for skyjacking. Beating a jihadi to death may do the same here.

And the dead were 3 song hacks. At the same time AC/DC songs were actually only a few chords. Very first band I was in out of high school played a shit ton of AC/DC, and I never had to sit down with the albums to learn any of the songs. I just listened to them in the car while driving. They did follow a certain pattern. Very easy stuff, but it sounded good the way they did it. I think it was Malcolm Young who said past the 9th fret was the dusty part of the neck. lol

I've got a bad feeling we're going to see a lot more attacks. Many people seem to have already forgotten we had an Afghan muslim attack in DC against Guard troops not that long ago. The pace of attacks seems to be increasing.

It's kind of wild to finally see some politicians like Brandon Gill, Tommy Tuberville, Randy Fine and others openly calling for banning Muslims from the US. Nobody know how many Biden allowed to come into this country but the number is a lot more than a few.
