The Morning Rant: What Is Winning In Iran?

punk-monkey.jpg

The thoroughly discredited and, frankly impossible goal of America's recent wars have been to create some form of benign Jeffersonian democracy to replace evil, despotic, murderous regimes. It didn't work, and the template from World War II, Japan and Germany, ignores the obvious...that those cultures were industrious, nationalistic, valued education, and had been absolutely destroyed. The slate had been wiped clean, so reconstruction of the governments was relatively simple.

But Iraq and Afghanistan were savage, backward, tribalistic countries whose self-governance, as it were, was based on Islamic doctrine or even more ancient: family and clan over all others. Their cultures were, to put it gently, not particularly well suited to function in the modern world of individual liberty and autonomy. So the efforts...the unimaginably bloody and expensive efforts failed miserably. And because we were fixated on being a gentle invader, the people of those countries never learned to fear us, and were never really beaten the way Japan and Germany were!

Luckily we have an administration that is less enamored of the idea of America as an engine of social change, and one that is more interested in defending our and our allies' interests. And those interests are clear: prevent the Mullahs from continuing to dominate the Persian Gulf, and prevent them and their Armageddon fantasy from coming to fruition via nuclear weapons.

The goals, as repeatedly stated by the Secretary of War, are simple:

  • Destroy or severely degrade Iran's missile forces, military infrastructure, and command systems that threaten American forces and regional allies, while also preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
  • Deter further attacks against the United States and partners such as Israel and the Gulf states, and to reduce Iran's ability to project military power in the region.
  • These objectives are meant to remain limited and that the United States is not officially pursuing regime change in Iran.

That is a massive shift from just a few years ago, and it is a welcome one. The blood of American servicemen is too valuable to waste on arrogant notions of creating a new world order based on Western principles that are alien to the majority of the world. The focus of this war is the defense of our long-term safety and security, and it is glaringly obvious that Iran as currently constructed is a huge impediment to that, and in fact threatens the entire world!

So...to answer the question: Winning in Iran means degrading their war-making capacity down to nothing, so they cannot threaten their neighbors and world commerce. It means destroying their nuclear program so that rebuilding it would take many, many years.

And we are approaching that success. Will it take another week or another month? Who knows? And on the way to those achievable goals we are degrading the internal security apparatus of the Mullahs in such a way that the people of Iran have a better chance of overthrowing them and rebuilding their government...but in their own image! No externally imposed government that is doomed to failure.

And most of all, no boots on the ground to enforce our image of what Iran should be. That is up to the people of Iran, and I wish them the best of luck!

The person, other than the mullahs, most likely to be most successful in running Iran, at least in the short term, is Reza Pahlavi. He has a lot of support both inside and outside the country so he can be a unifying figure to give the people a chance to breathe and decide how they want to move forward.

We should not insist on him and we should not expend much in the way of resources to support him but he's probably the best shot there is.

So far, Reza Pahlavi has been pretty pitch perfect. He says he will be a transitional figure until elections can be held. After that, who knows? The Communist Party will be a strong contender, but hopefully the experience of the last 47 years has taught the populace not to put their faith in absolutists.

92 The person, other than the mullahs, most likely to be most successful in running Iran, at least in the short term, is Reza Pahlavi. He has a lot of support both inside and outside the country so he can be a unifying figure to give the people a chance to breathe and decide how they want to move forward.

We should not insist on him and we should not expend much in the way of resources to support him but he's probably the best shot there is.

And, success breeds more success.

Also...shale is really profitable at oil prices right now. That'll keep oil prices from spiking. Us importing less than 10% of our oil imports from the Middle East as a whole (the rest comes from places like Canada) will limit its affects on us. A: The platform Pavlavi vetted in Berlin the day before the bombardment began. Iran Prosperity Project (IPP). his subsequent "Emergency Phase" blueprint. Pahlavi positioned himself not as a permanent ruler, but as a "bridge" or a transitional leader whose primary goal is to oversee the shift from the current theocracy....

The pre-revolution government was a repressive monarchy. Was it better than what took over? Sure. 166 Boots may or may not hit the ground. Reality will dictate whether that needs to occur. The bigger point is that DJT is prosecuting a war that aims to punish the leaders directly. Just as he did in Venezuela. Having world leaders personally at risk is a sea change.

We also get to see the masks drop in the region. Iran attacking its neighbors allows us to see who is who.

And the disruption in oil flows demonstrates the economic leverage that the US has as well. Another healthy reality check for all of those world leaders. China is rationing fuel, India is running low on gas, Cuba is winding down....

If that is accomplished by a monarchy that does not really interfere in the daily lives of it's people but just seeks to provide them opportunity... is that wrong.

Most historical cases of tyranny by anyone is when that government- no matter what form it took- could not leave it's people alone and sought to either make them into something else, looted them for it's own enrichment or used them as fodder for the acquisition of new wealth.

The problem with Monarchy is that it runs into the power concentration problem of all government. You might have the right guy right now (say Trump or the Shah) but someone WILL come in who is most emphatically NOT the right guy and use that power for his own selfish ends.

205 Chinas 5 years plan based on bootleg 40 to 45 dollar oil just took it in the squeekhole.

China's bootleg $40-45 oil comes courtesy of the US State Department telling every other nation that they can't get their oil from Russia and Iran under the fig leaf of "Sanctions".

It was US "sanctions" that allowed China to have no competition for the purchase of cheap oil.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

We shackled ourselves to the idea of fighting a politically correct Iraq war; even to the expense of putting our own fighting men and women at risk for the sake of not offending “Our Host Country”. I think our involvement in Venezuela had a side purpose in reclaiming the assets needed to exploit the oil there. If it can be leveraged, and the product refined and sold here as gas, diesel, etc. we really wouldn't give a shit about the Persian Gulf.

It certainly wouldn't be as economically and strategically important to us. Especially if we can "turn" Iran into a client state and not a perpetual thorn in our side.

I can see that vision. I bet Trump does too.

That is the question for the ages, because if they dont at some point the Mullahs will re-form like that T-2 cop and they'll be under the boot again.
This is the opportunity of a lifetime for them, but killing is dirty business and not for everyone. Not to mention that those most drawn to it are already employed by the Mullahs.
It would be a shame if all this destruction to their country didn't at least have a silver lining for them.

Post WWII, the highest marginal tax rate was 90%.

This was also the time that the Hollywood studio system collapsed.

The tax rate was about 50% of that fall (the other 40% was the Paramount decrees and then TV, but TV would have ended it in time anyway on its own, probably).

Posted by: Beverly at March 12, 2026 11:48 AM (reMys)

-------------

Thanks for that historical knowledge of which I was unaware, Beverly (or may have learned at one point and since forgotten).

[Per Brave "AI" Search, 1 of 2:]

The FP-45 Liberator, often referred to as the "Liberty Pistol," was a single-shot .45 ACP pistol developed by the U.S. military during World War II for potential airdrop to resistance fighters in occupied territories. Despite being mass-produced—one million units in just 11 weeks—large-scale airdrops did not occur as originally planned.

Posted by: ShainS at March 12, 2026 11:54 AM (xIFh6)

285 [Per Brave "AI" Search, 2 of 2:]

European Theater: General Dwight D. Eisenhower rejected the idea of mass airdrops over Europe, deeming it impractical use of limited air resources. Only fewer than 25,000 Liberator pistols were authorized for distribution to the French Resistance, and there is no definitive evidence of large-scale airdrops. Some sources suggest limited drops in Greece in 1944, but numbers remain unconfirmed.

Pacific Theater: General Douglas MacArthur was more receptive. Approximately 50,000 Liberator pistols were sent to the Pacific, with reports of distribution to guerrilla forces in the Philippines, China, and the Solomon Islands. Some use by resistance groups in these areas is plausible, though documented operational use remains scarce.

Post-War Fate: Most of the remaining Liberators—over 450,000—were destroyed after the war. Records indicate they were melted down or dumped into the Irish Sea, with only a few surviving today as rare collector’s items.

EU regulations on nuclear power:

- Only 'migrants' are permitted to work in the nuclear industry.
- All nuclear plant names must be culturally sensitive for 'migrants'.
- Local native girls must spend a minimum of two hours, daily, acting as recreation for 'migrants' working on Euro-Power.

Up until the Kennedy era. Reagan killed off what remained.

There were all sorts of deductions. Those are gone, too. Nobody actually paid those rates.

One of my favorite tales was a college professor who was nicknamed “Rocket Man”. He bought a surplus military rocket at auction. In those days, one could deduct the original purchase price of the item, which was considerable.

The initial tax rates were about 2%, starting on incomes over $500,000 in today’s confetti-bucks. “Stick it to the Rich!” sounded good, that’s why the 16th was ratified by the states.

But it only ever falls on the working people. Leftists are profoundly stupid, or wicked. Take your pick. Both may apply I guess.

I think both Venezuela and Iran are pieces of that same puzzle. If you remember after the war in Iraq, Trump was adamant that we should have taken the oil. In Trump hyperbolic speak I think that equates to making a deal much like we are seeing in Venezuela.

Energy fuels the world. It's the only reason the mullahs held the power position they did. It was the reason the mullahs took control of Iran in the first place. China wasn't pushing their tentacles into Venezuela because of the hot women although I wouldn't blame them for that. It was because they needed the oil.

We don't need Iran's oil. We have enough for our own needs. What we need is for whomever takes over Iran to not use oil as a means to evil ends.

The increase in oil prices (from about $75 a couple of weeks ago to $95 today) doesn't justify the increase in gas prices.

Because gas prices have other inputs, and lot of that is psychological and also deal with local competition.

It's why prices jump quickly and decrease slowly.

Lysenko wasn't an accident. The climate change and transgenderism cults aren't an accident. These can't exist without the degeneration and ultimate destruction of scientific inquiry and scientific method, and objective fact. There are no facts, not ascertainable truth, just narrative.

335 I think this is part and parcel of the long march through the institutions to destroy Enlightenment-era rationalism and empiricism, and the philosophical underpinnings of Western civilization such as the existence and discoverability of objective truth. Lysenko wasn't an accident. The climate change and transgenderism cults aren't an accident. These can't exist without the degeneration and ultimate destruction of scientific inquiry and scientific method, and objective fact. There are no facts, not ascertainable truth, just narrative.

Well put.

336 The reason they’re valuable for all sides is that they function as stable, defensible observation and weapons platforms. Any attack ship coming from the Iranian mainland, no matter how small, has to pass them.
Posted by: Tom Servo at March 12, 2026 11:57 AM (7yOPh)

During the Tanker War, they launched their speedboats from those islands to harass commercial ships.

They tried somewhat of a swarm tactic with those stupid, under-equipped speed boats, but with little effect.

Flying in support of our escorts, we were easily able to pick out their boats with ISAR radar along with FLIR and notify the escort ships of those boats who were on a threat vector inbound.

Swarming could be a problem today with their better-equipped boats, however, depending upon how many are sent out to form the swarm and what defensive assets we have on-station at the time to counter them.

Gas jumped about $0.60 per gallon here with diesel and ethanol free going must higher. I figure it will settle once the Iran situation is resolved. Gas goes bonkers anytime someone farts near the Hormel Straits or whatever anyway, let alone the recent ass-kicking given to Iran. I'd also like to blame futures traders and commodity speculators because I think they're basically parasitic degenerate gamblers in suits with Wall Street and hedge fund connections but have no data to back that up.

Wouldn't say they are filthy but after the time I went the suit and shirt went to the cleaners and I took a thorough shower.

408 Going to a strip club is like going to a salad bar with the sneeze guard all the way to the ground. No point in looking at a menu I can't order from.

I also object to supporting her abusive boyfriend's drug habit while he learns to play the drums in a Motley Crue cover band.
